KR Movie: Hoff talk & wishful thinking?

Hi all. I heard an interview with the Hoff, on the Howard Stern radio show, today that got me very excited. The subject of Knight Rider came up several times and it all came back to David saying he’s going to make Knight Rider into a feature film. He said the whole point of Piranha 3DD was so he could get the wheels in motion for a KR movie as the Weinstein Company currently own the rights. Naturally I went into fan boy hysterics and started digging around online for any further news on the project. Sadly I found nothing. So what is going on? Is it going to happen? Or is this David wishful thinking?

I don’t think I need to tell you what it would mean for me to see Kitt on the big screen [as we all share the same enthusiasm/dream] but will it ever become something more than online gossip and Hoff talk? God I hope so.

Well, it's wishful thinking but just keep those wishes coming!

Yes, it is always good that Hasselhoff is keeping the idea of the Knight Rider movie alive. Unfortunately, it's just the same news without any progress. I saw him at an autograph signing in May 2011 and he said pretty much the same thing about the Piranha movie:

Last month, Glen Larson told us he was still interested in doing a Knight RIder movie, so there is always hope. Hoff and Larson could wind up working together, or competing against each other, or who knows. For now, we're still in limbo.

I thought NBC still owned the show, It Would be cool If David Hasselhoff, Bonnie, And William Daniels were in it like a reunion but not

I can see it now, After Devons death, Bonnie takes over as the head of FLAG and pulls KITT out of storage (after Michael goes walkabout for several years, being burnt out) She totally reconfigures the tech inside KITT and updates the polymer shell while keeping the the outer appearance the same. Bonnie tries to find a suitable replacement for Michael, going through several dry runs before realizing that the only real "pilot" for KITT is the the original.

Am I the only fan of Knight Rider that does not want a movie??? No one that knows me can argue that I am not a fan. I love the show, I watched every episode a million times, I have toys, collectables, etc. etc. etc. but, I don't want a movie for the fact that it is just going to be destroyed. I doubt very much that they would use an 82 Trans Am, keep the cast, the feel, the heart, and everything else we love about the original show.

The movie would have some super gaudy "futuristic" looking car with so much freakin' gadgets, super hot half naked girls, and a plot that we have seen so many times...blah...blah...blah...

Also, I don't think there is a large enough global fan base for Knight Rider to keep the movie close to the original show. I have seen all the negative comments about the Amazing Spider-Man movie suit that now the sequel is having a closer to the comic suit. I also wonder does Glen Larson have the "weight" he once did in Hollywood? or does he's writing/directing skills hold up to current names in Hollywood?? Could Glen Larson give us a story that would wow audiences that go to summer block-busters of today such as The Avengers or Skyfall??

I'm hoping the movie becomes a reality!

I thought that making a KR feature was a long shot, until they spent $200 million on Jack and the Beanstalk. They are obviously desperate for material that has some built-in familiarity with the audience, and KR certainly has that.

If there was going to be one it should have been done in the early 1990s at the latest

How could you have KR without Devon Miles?

Or that sleek, modern looking 1982 Pontiac Trans Am?

I just think without the original cast, crew, KITT the movie wouldn't be the same.

It was great while it lasted, just don't dig the show up and try and put life back into it.

I don't know if Dave Andron would ever be interested in another go around the horn, but considering how most of us feel about the backdoor pilot as opposed to the 2008 series, I definitely wouldn't mind him getting another crack at the whip if a feature film project ever gets kicked into high gear.

Sure, he got it wrong when he said we didn't know who created the Knight 2000, but he got the heart and soul of the idea that drew most of us to the original series pretty much bang on. Hell, it wasn't until I logged in here after the premier that I realised I hadn't particularly missed the absence of things like Turbo Boost.

Looking back, I loved that the stunt work used practical effects and composite imaging instead of relying on CGI like the 2008 series would go on to do. Having specialised stunt cars on hand really did give me hope that we'd see a series capable of being a true successor to the original.

Of course, those hopes were dashed before the series could even make it onto the air thanks to the leaked images of the Attack Mode car showing off its deep dish pizza rims... but that's another story altogether.
