Just a few comments:
- The seats are actually a soft texture
- It has Knight Industries under the car logo's and under the hood with KITT's Serial #
- Just plain sick model!

I didn't realise this "standard" elite version had the light up scanner

I thought that was coming on the super elite

oh well

that's really great

just be careful playing with, these things easily break!

thanks for the video review

Scanner looks great. It's definitely a much better model than Ertl's version. I might sell my Ertl one now.

The wheels do look very good. It's the tyres that are too square.

Regarding European release: one UK retailer has them marked as available on 25th Feb. They were shipping from Hong Kong in early January, so they'll probably be out very soon. Within the next week or so I would hope.

I'm not sure but it does look like the scanner is made up of individual lights unlike the Hot Wheels test video where the scanner looked "seamless" like KI3T's.

Can you confirm this?

The scanner does swoosh back and forth seamlessly and has individual LED's, however if you look straight ahead at it, it doesn't look as separated where as when you look down towards it you see the individual LED's. For example look at my first video when its still in the box and you can tell.

Just noticed the 1/43 KITT has become available at Modelcarworld.de :) Price there is 59,95 Euros.

I'll wait until the 1/18th KITT is also available and order both at the same time to save in shipping costs.

Ebay has the 1/43 Kitt Elite much cheaper. Found mine for $54 shipped.

The US listings do seem much cheaper than the prices we'll be paying in Europe. The problem for us on this side of the pond is that any saving will be cancelled out once you've paid the inevitable customs charge and associated handling fee.

Anybody in the market for an RC2 Ertl 1:18 first edition with orange fog lamps and silver base?

Same goes for me. I'm in Canada, so whether I purchase from the USA or Hong Kong, I still have to pay shipping charges and potential import fees, although I will admit shipping to Canada, besides shipping within the US, seems to be much cheaper than overseas, and our import fees aren't that high, in most cases we don't pay anything at all.

Still seems like its worth it, because whether you purchase from big bad toy store or entertainment earth, they are priced from $65.99, plus $18-$28 to ship, and heaven forbid it ships with UPS, you may have to empty your wallet to pay for any duties charges :x .

I ordered mine from Hong Kong and actually saved about $50 because they are offering free shipping. I've purchased a few items from Japan as well and the shipping is very reasonable, usually about the same or sometimes cheaper than from the States. Entertainment Earths charges to Canada are outrageous, Ebay is the way too go when it comes to buying from the States, shipping charges are within reason.

For example, on Ebay right now you can get the 1/43 scale KITT for $46 which is $20 below the Entertainment Earth price and the shipping is only $12. Can't beat that, I will be ordering that one soon.

It really does look much, much better. The tail end seems much neater with the flat light lens and an improved licence plate.

Wow... Can't compare... The ERTL one looks good for its time, but the Hot Wheels KITT looks so much better, a lot better. Also, I didn't realize how bad the ERTL wheels looked, its totally wrong. Hot Wheels got the look of it just about right except for the tires..

The wheels do look ugly on the ERTL but applying a little bit of black paint between the spokes makes them look a lot better. Apart from the wheels, I still think the ERTL stands up pretty good to be honest! But I'm not one for nitpicking model cars.

Everybody is moaning about the wheels on the H/W version, but in that comparison shot you can see the ERTL was low profile tyres which weren't around back in 1982. Even things like the side marker lamps, door mirrors, high rear spoiler are all things I didn't notice were wrong on the ERTL until I saw the comparison pictures.

Indeed... At the end of the day, the overall look of the Elite car looks so much better than Ertl's KITT.. They got the proportions really accurate and the interior looks impressive, just like how it looked in the show, and i'm not talking about just the dash :-)
