KIFT in Dallas - Who wants to help me restore it?

Post by VIDEOBOB » Fri Apr 20, 2012 10:23 am

Hi, my name is Bob and I have a shop in south Dallas called "Bob's Prop Shop".
Check out http://www.bobspropshop.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I have the screen used KIFT car in my possession and I am currently restoring it.

Here is how it looks as of today:
Image

When I got it, it was black and white from being used on "Scare Tactics". The police lights are in the back seat.
I was also told that "Power Rangers" used in before but I have yet to confirm this or see it.
I also found it on "Black Scorpion" to.

I know that there were two of these built along with a boat car and a "half" car.
I was told that the bill for all of these cars was $300,000, that's what Jay O. charged the studio at least.

Anyway, the engine is apparently blown in it.
The interior is pretty bad.
There is a smash on the nose from some sort of crash....
I want to completely restore the car and also add in the "dash" as seen on screen.

I am looking for fans to send me what ever photos or information they might have, also, if you live near Dallas
and would like to help me on the project and would like the honor of laying your hands on the screen used Hollywood artifact please contact me through my website and I will be happy to have you to the shop to see it and put you to work!!!
Thanks,
- Bob

Here are some screen shots for you that I snapped a few years ago:

I could have sworn I had one of the complete dash, but that must have been on an old harddrive.

Hello Videobob, congratulations on your acquisition. I'll try to put what I can in helping you as possible, so you guys feel free to correct me when necessary.
As far as I know 2 complete cars were made using a Dodge Stealth, plus 2 more made out of the mold, the boat car and the process car, the latter was just a shell with a working dash in It.
The 2 main cars could be identifyed by the interiors, 1 had cloth seats and the other had vynil/leather ones.
Your must be the one with cloth seats because the other one was restored a couple of years ago and sold at an auction. This same car received the original working dash that was used in the process car.
One of those had a small single backseat, but don't remember which one. It was for the blind driving scenes at the end of KR2000.
After KR2000, both cars were reused in other movies. I'm 99.9% sure your car wasn't used in Chips '99, that was the leather seats car, no reason to used both , It was just seen in 4 or 5 closeup/beauty shots and wasn't driven that much.
Both cars were prolly needed for Black Scorpions, the closeup shots of the chick with glasses driving reveals that could be your car.
Both cars were returned to J.Ohrberg, repainted black and white and reused in power Rangers and Scare Tactics. The other car was still two tone when It was restored.
This is what I believe your car was during the buiding process, cloth seats.

here you could take more infos and pictures of the building, even though the site is not updated.
http://kr2k.com/bts.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Trivia note, a 5th car was required at first for a jump sequence that never happened. Jay O. had the stunt car from Hardcastle & Mccormick that he started modifying for that purpose, the Universal staff changed their minds and Jay kept the car for him. That car became his Taz-mobile and a coupla years ago was sold to a private.

All my best wishes for you and KIFT, hope my chit chat helped a bit.
Tony

Hi Videobob,

Are you the same Videobob whose involved in the "Back to the Future" community?

Anyways, I run a website, http://www.knightriderhistorians.com with fellow KR historian, AJ Palmgren. AJ owns the original Knight 4000 insert car (that had the working dash). I'd love to get you in contact with him, as he would be interested in traveling to your location to see the car in person. Combined, we have over 30 years of experience in documenting original KR props.

Speak with you soon,
Joe

I believe that happened on "Scare Tactics." In the sequence, they put the subject(person to be scared) in the car and start doing all sorts of crazy maneuvers with the car. The final thing they did was drive the car towards a garage with door down and crashed, nose first, through the door in true Knight Rider style. And with the way they were driving the car, that's probably what caused the engine to be blown. I've searched Youtube for the sequence but I can't find it as of yet.

Here is the VIN:
Image

I have gottena lot of PM's and inquiries, let me just say that if anyone wants to come see the car in Dallas just ask.
I am looking for people to help me work on it.

My official facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/bobspropshop
and the album is at: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... pshop.com/[/url]
I was thinking about making a fan page for KIFT on facebook, not sure... I would rather just have people follow my page so they can see all the projects we are doing. I will consider it.

I will try to document as much of the restoration as possible and let you know if I "find" anything anywhere.
I have talked to Jay on the phone about the car and he filled me in about it as much as possible.

Bob, I make the electronics to the Knight 4000. PM me. I am one state over in Louisiana.
The parts I make are functional and look exactly like on the show.
I can send you a video of my parts if you would like.

Hey Bob!

Very cool! I however can confirm that this was used in Power Rangers Time Force in the first episode "Force From the Future Part 1". Alex drove it only less than a minute and it was used in a couple of other shots. Not sure if it showed up again later in the series. I'm a huge Ranger fan and KR fan, so when this car showed up, I knew it was immediately KIFT.

Hope that clears up the Ranger issue.

Heres a taste of what I can do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PcSBFqx ... e=youtu.be" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The voice is Carmen Argenziano's. (Russell Maddock / Voice of K.I.F.T.)

I can also program it to do KITTs voice as well. (William Daniels)

The A.I. can hear you and talk back. It has voice recognition and is fully functional prop.

I can also do all of the dashboard electronics for your car and buttons with appropriate labels.
Also the center screen and two smaller passenger side screens, as well as the fax machine built into the dash. :good:

Just let me know if you want to move forward with your K4000 project and we can work out the details to get your car working & looking better than it did in the TV movie.

Can't wait to see how your resto comes out. Glad to see the two cars are still around.

Here is my Knight4000 that I picked up a quite a few years ago. This was an extra body made from the mold
before they modified the nose to be solid.

I have it down at a friends house at the moment. Still debating on what to do with it. Now that my 82 KITT
replica is finished, I may begin to tackle this one. here is a few pictures when we shipped it down to my
friends house.

I was wrong. But then, it's been a while since I saw that episode. I had forgotten that it was a faux brick wall they crashed into. For some reason, I had remembered that it was a garage door. Either way, thanks for posting the link. I had the same feeling about it that I did when I first saw the Scare Tactics episode air. If they'd done some driving like that in Knight Rider 2000, that would have added a lot to the movie.

It's going REALLY well.
I'm going to film the Knight 3000 install starting today. I should have it up on my youtube channel sometime later this week.
I will post my 3000 progress later this week.:good:
