Here is a few pictures of my Mustang. I started installing the ORB and the under dashpad lights.

Re: Great New for KITT Mustang Replica Builders!
Well, the hardest part was taking out the Pass Airbag. The cluster panel cover just pulls off. I took 1" painters tape and put it where I wanted to cut and then I took a dremal cutoff tool and cut around the tape. I then cleaned up the edges and put my light strip in and then glued a light defuser in. I still havn't wired the lights up, I don't know where I'm going to put the switch at. It's -3 tonight so I will not be working on the driver side tonight. I still have to finish the ORB, it's not completed in the dash and I still have to get a CAR PC.

Ted that looks terrific! I can't wait until your KI3T is online.
I love the dash lights too. Very professional looking!
We need iphil to chime in here with what he did with his blue dash lights and compare notes.
I am dreading doing that part myself.
There is some software that I am working on that will tie into all of our Interactive Voice Orbs that will have VoIP chat video chat through the center LCD screen via a camera in the bezel. That way we can all talk to each other video conference style on the go.
Among some of the other K3000 Orb updates and functions we talked about on the phone today.

Re: Great New for KITT Mustang Replica Builders!
I pretty much did the same thing, used tape, removed the passenger side airbag, and the gauge bezel, and cut around the tape. I used 3M grey foam tape to stick the lights in the dash, and to secure the diffusers. The diffuser is from a florescent light fixture, and I used Street Glow OPTX thin ultrabright tubes. I actually need to remove them and put in longer ones. The only complication I ran into was the steel structural brace in the passenger side that keeps the airbag from blowing the dash lip up if it deploys. But you can barely see it. I'm thinking of adding a second set in red with a hidden switch.
KRKitt- Your setup looks sweet! What did you do to clean up the holes? Mine still look pretty rough, and I'd like to get good straight burr-free edges.
I would totally get the KARR orb, but I already allocated that dash space for "something" else.

I used my Ryobi with a sanding disc and lightly went across the edges. I also used a razor blade. I have to get a Dremal for the driverside because the Ryobi is too big or I will have to drop the 4 bolts on the steering to clear for the Ryobi. It's another night of cold temp so I will wait til this weekend to do the driverside and finish the ORB. Thanks everyone for the comments.
If you want to see more pictures, go to Cardomain.com and go to member TTSRACINGWORLD If you have an account there, rate my car and I'll do the same for you. Thanks Ted

Re: Great New for KITT Mustang Replica Builders!
Update: The ORB and Under Dash Pad lights are installed!!! All I have to do now is get a Car PC to run KITT. I still have to put in a few switches for the lights and ORB but I left the wires where I could get to them without taking the dash back apart. Then it's back to getting the exterior work done.

The first pictures are without flash and the second are with flash. They are brite in the car. I also took it for a ride in the daylight with them on and they are brite.

I was thinking of a dimmer switch. I still have to take it for a ride at night to see how brite it is.

Re: Great New for KITT Mustang Replica Builders!
Hey Ted, you have the silver at the top of the dash like mine. It makes the blue LED lights seem much brighter because of the more reflective surface.
It's hard for me to tell from the photos how bright it really seems to the naked eye. The flash one looks perfect but the one without the flash seem MUCH too bright for me. (I'm afraid it would be distracting for me as the driver.)
Is it too bright in your opinion?
Also is anyone going to put the smaller strip of blue LEDs over the airvents on each side of the dash like in the show? Or are you only doing the two under the dash? (I plan on doing all 4.)

Re: Great New for KITT Mustang Replica Builders!
The lights are not as brite as the picture. When I go the lights from Pierre Hoffmann at autoi.com. I hooked them to the battery and they didn't look brite at all, so I called Pierre and he told me that a camera would make them look briter then they are, he was right. They are between the picture with flash and the one without flash. They are brite in the garage with everything else off. Time to start selling my Nascar diecast and Batman stuff to get going on the outside of the car.
