SPM K.I.T.T model

Post by Showpro1 » Wed Feb 03, 2010 2:46 am

This SPM KITT model I converted from the Kenner talking KITT is a good scale
that lets you enjoy the details.
I made one for Ron Martinez at Knight Rider Festival and this year Paul Casey will
be recieving this one.
I look forward to seeing everyone at Knight Rider Festival 2

Very impressive as always Dave. You're taking that plunge of working with a larger model than most 1:18 conversions out there.

Nick,

I appreciate the compliment after those models you mentioned are great models
however I really like the 1/12th scale for details sake.

Dave that is so cool. I love the larger scale choice of the Kenner KITT. Does he still talk?
Modding a toy like that is a bit more involved than simply "KITT bashing" a model. I am really impressesd.
I like that the TV screen is giving us a preview of the KRFII, that and the AWESOME backdrop you have for the model... Looks like a cool Calender put to another purpose.

KARRider,
Thanks for the compliment, and I think that scale is pretty good however as is the case with many
of these Kenner KITT's it no longer talks.
Overall it had potential but some tweaking had to be done such as the God- Awful red lettering on the doors.
I thought that the artwork Nick Nugent did needed to be on KITT's screen rather than a blank screen.
The model needed a backdrop and the calendar seemed to fill the bill.
I hope you will be at Knight Rider Festival with your screen used KITT, and if so I will se you there my friend,

D. Doggett.

 Very impressive work, Showpro1! It looks totally professional and not homemade, too. I always wished when I had the toy as a kid that there would be an SPM version, or at least that there were pull-out flaps on the original Voice Car. You have a lot of guts to chop up a hard-to-find vintage toy but the result looks worth it.

Lost Knight,

Of course I appreciate the kind words, the first model I did was given to Ron Martinez at Knight Rider Festival last year because of his friendship to me and because he helped Knights Of The West Coast with our charity
which was Make A Wish during our shows at Saugus Speedway.

However this year I promised to sell this model to Paul Casey because he expressed an interest in having one also.
As you mentioned these toys are hard to find, so I molded the majority of the parts so that some can
be made from resin & the shell will be vaccum formed.
In this way I wont to cutting up what is becoming very rare.

I would like to next make a remote control version with scanner light, fog lights, and if possible backlight the dash
as well.
Thanks again,

D. Doggett.
