My german KI3T project

Post by Radioman » Wed Dec 09, 2009 11:30 am

Hello everybody...!

My name is Chris, I'm 28 years old and I live in Munich, Germany. My English is not so good, but I hope you unterstand me. Two weeks ago I bought a 2007 Ford Mustang GT with 13.000 miles from a Munich dealer. The car is standing in New York habor now and will arrive on 2010/01/15 in Munich. After arriving I would like to build a KI3T Exterior Replica. So I bought some Parts like the Shelby GT500 Front Fascia Kit, the Trufiber Venom Air Ram Hood, the Shelby GT500 Cobra Emblems for faux fuel door and fenders, the Shelby GT500 Racing Stripes and the KI3T Scanner. Can you told me how I must install the scanner in Trufiber Venom Hood? It would be great if you can show me some pictures. Thanks a lot for answering my question.

Here are some pictures of my car:

As far as I know, I'm the only one who has installed as KR08 scanner in the Venom hood. I saw the link you posted to your scanner and it looks as if that's darktalon's.
I had to cut the underside of the hood scoop to allow room to install the scanner.
Here are a few pics of my installation:

Thanks a lot tamatt27 for quick answering my question, it assitst me so much. You wrote you are the only one who has installed the KR08 scanner in Venom Hood. What about taoworm2323? I saw his KI3T replica as guest on your board. Did he not install his original scanner in Venom Hood? What do you think about my scanner? And do you know which color code my lacquerer need for painting my Venom Hood and Shelby GT500 Front?

taoworm's car was an interior only replica at the time of his crash. he does have the authentic pilot scanner but didnt have it mounted. The car you see in the video of his scanner effects is mine. hebuilt my scanner and I made a video for him.

don't forget you will need the rear spoiler from what i have seen/heard/read the wing they used for KITT the mustang was the one that was optional on the V6 models with the optional sports package. here is a page that has one and the price, but you may be able to find it cheaper other places ;).

OEM Ford Mustang V6 Style Rear Spoiler 05-09

If I am mistaken I am sure that the guy or one of the guys on the forum who is making a GT500KR 'KITT' will chime in if i am wrong ;).

PS, welcome to the KRO community :good:!

That is the correct spoiler, it was used on the GT500KR also.

If you want to steal my car, KITT is going to bring you in prison man :D. If you would like to see my car, you can visit him in february.

@Dave Knight

I have bought the following things from my munich dealer http://www.velocity-kustoms.de" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

- Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Fascia KIT
- Trufiber Venom Air Ram Hood, but without the hood pins - the hood and the pins are very expensive in Germany
- Shelby GT500 faux fuel and fender Cobra emblems
- Knight Rider 3000 Scanner
- Shelby GT500 Racing Stripes in matt black (?)
- Shelby GT500 KR writing for the doors

I would like to buy the Shelby GT500 rearbumper "California Special" it's a lower price like the rearbumper from KITT and I think it is the same or isn't it?! I wouldn't like to buy the GT500 spoiler, because I will get a painted GT spoiler as a gift from my dealer in munich. The GT500 spoiler coast around $ 900,- (painting and construction included).

Congrads! A few things I thought might help. The regular GT500 racing stripes most likely won't work on the KR-style hood due to the vents in the hood. The GT500 has a different spoiler, too, than the KR and the regular GT. The California Special rear bumper is the same as the GT500 one with one difference. The lower portion of the sides are painted body color on the CS bumper. The lower portion is unpainted on the GT500 rear bumpers.

Correct. Although I'd like to have the most authentic KI3T, I took a little creative license and got 10" stripes, as the KR's are closer to 8" I believe (I couldn't find an exact measurement). The wider stripes, coupled with the Trufiber vents being wider than the actual KR's, make it so they need to be trimmed at the vents. I've added a few other creative touches to KI3T since my last update, but I'm waiting for one last item to come in and be installed before I reveal the completed exterior.

Well, I don't know how can I say correct in English, so I tell you that I bought the GT500 racing stripes. I didn't buy the original one, I have a company in munich which are experts for lamination. This guys produce all stripes und writing for half price linke the original one and you won't see any differnt (I hope so :D).

Here is a picture with the difference about the CS and GT bumper: http://img192.imageshack.us/i/97106912.jpg/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; This is what you mean or isn't it? Is it not possible to buy only the diffusor and install this ob GT bumper?

It sounds like you're having them custom made and that should work because they'll make the stripes for the GT500KR hood and not the regular GT500 hood.
Yes those pictures are what I'm talking about with the bumpers. I don't think it's possible to buy only the bottom diffuser for the GT bumper. If it were, it probably wouldn't look right either. Good luck!

Yes tamatt27 it's correct, I have custom made stripes and so it's not a problem for me that the original stripes are only for the regular GT500 hood. Today I bought the GT500 Rearbumper CS and it isn't possible to buy only the bottom diffuser. The rearbumper and the diffuser is one component.

I have a question about painting my frontbumper, hood and rearbumper. All my products are going to arrive munich before christmas. I'm going to pick up these on 2009/12/29 but the car is going to arrive me on 2010/01/15. Now I know the painting code for my car, it is UA. Do you start painting immediately only to know the correct code or is it better for waiting? And the first step before painting the hood must be making the holes for scanner, is it right?!?

I don't think it would be a problem to paint the bumpers before the car arrived. The chances of the car having any other than UA black are very slim. One issue I had with my car, because it's a Roush, is the paint fading. When I took the Roush window louvers off the paint beneath them wasn't faded so there's a line around my side windows.
The holes for the scanner need to be cut out underneath the hood, but I have a different scanner than you. I'd wait until you've got both the scanner and hood in front of you. To look clean, I took a Dremel and cut out the screen in the hood holes. It' a very tedious task, but worth it IMO.

Hi guys...!

Today I bought my last Exterior Part about my KI3T project. Now what I only need are the Alcoa wheels, but they are not legal in Germany and so expensive. Four wheels and tires cost $ 6.450,- incl. shipping, german tax and customs duty. What do you pay in US for wheels and tires?

Here are the results for the last two weeks:

Looks good! When are you planning on getting it together and completed? I payed, roughly, $2500 for the authentic Shelby Alcoa wheels and tires.

Thanks tamatt27! My plan is the following one:

2009/12/15: The ship to Hamburg habor left the habor in New York
2009/12/29: We pick up my parts from my dealer in Munich and bring to my garage for painting, etc.
2010/01/01: The ship arrives Hamburg habor
2010/01/04: The car goes to custom controll in Hamburg
2010/01/05: The car goes on a truck, which is driving to Würzburg
2010/01/06: Holiday in Germany
2010/01/07: In Würzburg there is a US-car garage from my dealer which convert my car for germans street
2010/01/11: My car goes to german inspection - it calls TÜV - Technical Control Board and get the sticker
2010/01/12: The car goes on a truck, which is driving to my Munich dealer
2010/01/13: My Munich dealer supplys my license plates
2010/01/14: I get my car from my dealer in Munich
2010/01/18: My rebuilding to KI3T begins
2010/01/20: I get my KI3T and I'm happy to have it

Where did you buy your Shelby Alcoa wheels and tires and is it possible that your dealer is shipping then to Munich?

Hi everbody...!

Today I exchanged my Trufiber Venom Air Ram Hood without Hood Pins for a Trufiber Venom Air Ram with Hood Pins:

Trufiber Venom Air Ram Hood with Hood Pins
Image Image

And then I found the 19" Tomason TN1 wheels with 255/40 R19 tires. They look like the 20" Alcoas, but the price is half of them and they are legal in Germany for Ford Mustang. What do you think about it?

Image

After Exterior modification, I would like to start with my Interior. First I would like to buy the Voice orb and install this. Second I would like to stitch the white Cobra emblems in my neck-rest. Has anybody here a picture of these?

Good call on the hood pins. There are some places in the hood where the fiberglass is very thing, I wouldn't trust driving at high speeds without hood pins. Those wheels look good too.
