Gary Scott Thompson Exclusive - Soon! - Series Info

Post by neps » Tue Apr 22, 2008 8:06 pm

Hey Everyone,

I just got off the phone with Gary Scott Thompson, creator of Las Vegas, Writer of Fast and the Furious - and most importantly Showrunner/Exec Producer of the new Knight Rider series. We were very fortunate to have his time and pick his brain about what the future series holds.
One of the things I loved about the original series, and by the way I am a fan of it and watched it when I was a kid, was 'Michael Long' he was a 'detective shot in the face' 'we are going to give him a new face and a new name' and he can never go back to that. To me, that was the whole point of what it was about, and once you did that it was going to follow you anywhere. So we have had to sort of back paddle, and the good thing about what they did (with the 2 hour pilot) they left it almost a blank slate - everything that was there we can either fill in and embellish or we discredit in some way and say 'No, that's not the truth'.
We'll have the exclusive interview with Mr Thompson online in a couple days! It was a very informative chat, and we owe Mr Thompson a huge amount of thanks.

Regards,

Neil

Wow, exactly 2,500 post right now! Nice. :D

What's he referring to as a blank slate? Mike Traceur's past or changing his name? What of the fill in, embellish or discredit thing? That referring to the established history with the original series or some events of the new Pilot and things that were done or mentioned in it or both? They have several years between the end of the original series and now they could use and work around the issues/conflicts the pilot had with the original series in a manner that doesn't crap all over the original.

Sounds like it might be an interesting read indeed.
The new and again improved evil's advertisement is currently too long and too badass to display here. But let's just say that with now 50% more evil, this **** is great! :skar:

REALLY looking forward to reading this to see what his direction for the new series will be, if he'll be changing anything about the cars, if Hoff will be back at all or any of the original members of the cast, the list goes on and on. I gotta wonder though as it's my favorite show, I wonder if he will mention anything about the chances for a Vegas ending.

Did you see the blurb in the ask auseillo column on TV guide online today? He may have Mike and Dalinda do a cameo with their new baby- I'd like to see it, since josh Duhamel and Justin Breuning were on "All My children" at the same time.

Ya i saw that. But i hope he gets to do more than just a Cameo appearance by them. Just walking by like extras holding a baby? That would suck. If he did do that it would shoot down any hope i had of Josh getting a spot on the show as a villian or something. I think he could make a great accomplice for the foundation or a great villian (Garth's son anyone?) I love Vegas so i'd love to see it get the resolution it deserves or if not, at least make it a team up type story where Mike has to team up with Danny in an episode and we find out what happened after the finale that way. I would also love to see Vanessa Marcil as the new Bonnie type character either in the show or the big screen movie. She's much better to look at than mike's geeky sidekick/roomate from the pilot. I hated that guy.

I did ask him a couple questions about Las Vegas - and he did joke about having the characters walk in the background - but he made it seem that it was just tossed around as a joke - but not that anything would happen with it.

He did say Ben Silverman has joke to him to tell the fans stop sending boxes upon boxes of baby shoes!

Thanks neps, good to know you asked about it for all the fans of vegas. Having another Bonnie wouldn't really eliminate the need for Sarah, adding her would give perfect opportunity for the whole love triangle thing that all the networks seem to love to do. Sarah could take over for her dad when he's away doing foundation stuff.

Cool! We already had one tie into "Las Vegas" as Matthew was the first to spot...
Mike's in the Montecito Resort and Casino from the Las Vegas TV series.

Of course, whilst the hotel name and sets are exactly the same, it's entirely possible that the Las Vegas universe that we see each week is not a part of the Knight Rider universe that was established back in 1982, although given that Las Vegas has always been portrayed as a particularly high-tech TV series, I think it would be awesome if it was tied into the Knight Rider universe along with Crossing Jordan for potential crossover episodes should the pilot launch a new series.

Isnt las Vegas finished?

I hope they dont retcon anything from KR-G1 ( transformers reference ).

I wouldn't like to see a Bonnie type character..i would want to see Bonnie herself.

It sounds as if it is possible that Mike may not have been the son of Jenny after all. Maybe he still will turn out to be the Son Of Stevie.

I don't think you'll see any Las Vegas crossover. This is a new series with a new universe, and GST will treat it as such. The Vegas sets were used in KR08 because they needed a Vegas set, not for any potential crossover of universes. I'm pretty sure those Vegas sets have been struck.
