Nod To Glen Larson In "Knight Rider 2000"?

Post by Lost Knight » Sun Mar 23, 2008 3:17 am

I've read in Knight Rider Legacy how the HAL computer in 2001: A Space Odyssey was the inspiration for K.I.T.T. While I had always noticed this poster and figured it was just a reference to reinforce the "future" theme of the movie since 2001 was only a mere year ahead from Knight Rider 2000's storyline, I can't help but wonder if the poster's inclusion was a nod to Glen Larson. I know Larson had nothing to do with the making of KR2K and only received the obligatory "Based on characters created by Glen A. Larson" credit, but the poster was definitely highlighted for a reason, as this is a typical gimmick directors use for inside references in their films. My only question is if anyone can shed some light on the inclusion of this poster, as I feel this goes beyond simply being an overanalyzation by myself. Surely Larson must have noticed this when he viewed the film.

Considering how detached Glen was from the production, I would consider it more coincidental then intentional as a nod to him. However it's more likely Universal was intending on giving a nod more to K.I.T.T.'s AI and its simularities to HAL rather than the show's creator.

Thanks for the insight, Victor. And I'm inclined to agree as well. The thing was that I didn't know that Glen's inspiration for K.I.T.T. was public domain at the time Knight Rider 2000 was made, so it was a little peculiar to me that there was a choice to show a shot of that particular movie's poster. As I said above, I just always figured it was there to say to viewers, "Hey, we're in the future just in case you forgot!"

it's been quite a while since i've watched KR2000... but doesn't KITT resemble HAL when he's first activated on the table? Screencap, anyone?
