Mike or Michael?

I'm curious as to whether other people agree with this point, don't care one way or another or like the way he is referred to nas Mike.

For starters it's obvious that he was named Michael after his father and the creators/writers decided that he would be called Mike to differentiate him from his father in the many scenes they will hopefully share and with fans of the show.

The way i see (plot wise)it is that he doesn't like the name Michael because it's too formal. To me he seemed a bit uncomfortable being called Michael by Graiman which is my he replied by calling him Charles with a mocking tone.
I believe he was referred to as Michael when in the army. We don't know why he left but since we see he's into what i'm guessing is underground racing and gambling and sleeping around he probably wasn't a model soldier. Also he didn't seem to appreciate the 'guidance' KI3T was offering him in the Casino scene which suggests he has a problem with authority.
He also may have been called MIchael buy his mother constantly when he was in trouble, it was mentioned that he was no angel and he was sent a may, i'm guessing to a miltary school or brat camp so he may resent the name because the things he endured there.
Now i know his mum calls him Mike in the pilot but that maybe because she's doing to appease him since they haven't spoken in a while.

What irritates me a little is that right from the get go KI3T calls him Mike tracer when bringing up his file, then just Mike when he meets him. Yet he refers to Sarah and Charles as Sarah Graiman and Charles Graiman a number of times. I would have liked to have seen KI3T call him Michael and the Mike telling him to call him Mike not Michael. Stupid as it maybe i think that would have made more sense.
I quite like him being called Mike instead of Michael as it makes the relationship between car and Driver in each case a little more individual, which is why i would have preferred KI3T to have learnt to call Mr tracer Mike from the man himself as it would be the humble beginnings of what should be an epic friendship. :)

Mike is his name. KITT should refer to him by his name.

Would you address Mike Tyson as Michael Tyson?
Michael Ditka?

Trust me, I'm going to declare myself a bit of an expert on this subject. There is nothing wrong or unusual about calling someone "Mike".

Just to make sure this is clear since i get the feeling i have have offended you with my post and i'm sorry if i did. I wasn't trying to belittle "Mike" as name.
It's just when i think of KI3T i think of him as learning certain human traits and personal preferences as he spends more time with then as opposed to his refering to his databanks. The way KI3T is quite formal regarding names at times in the pilot is how i imagine he would be when he meets those people for the first time. For some reason the way he immediatey refers to Mike as Mike stood out when i watched it. Although thats probably due to being so used to Willian Daniels saying Michael.
I've since thought about it a bit more about it and i'm pretty sure Sarah refers to him as Mike in their conversations which is why KI3T does so when they meet.

I myself have a friend called Mike and i generally call him that over Michael but then again 90% of the time i call him by his Surname.

You're right! It says so on his driver's license. HOWEVER, his looks also play into to this. He looks like a 12yr old who can grow a beard. Just because Mike is his name it doesn't mean it's right.

By the way I would wager that a lot of Mike Tyson's problems stem from his voice and his name. How can you take a guy named Mike serious unless he's manly. Tyson had to bash peoples faces in. Mike Traceur need to do a lot of work before I can look past the name. Maybe a big scar?

The name/face combination doesn't work for me.

Mike is short for Michael. It will never be the same. It's like when my mom named my brother Frankie instead of Frank.

Sorry. One says little kid, the other says adult.

I think I am a pro also at this considering my brother's name is Michael and it's my middle name.

On his birth certificate it say it,so what. He is ever hardly to this day referred or called Michael. In 28 years the only time iv'e heard him called Michael was by his Mother when he is in trouble or pist at him. He is called Mike.

My real name is Christopher says so on my birth certificate, again the ONLY person who calls me that in the over 30 years of being on this planet is my mother when she is pist at me. I've always been known as Chris, When I apply for a job it is Chris not Christopher and by the way I don't like to be called Christopher.

So what is the big deal most grown men like to be called Mike all the Michaels I know prefer to be called Mike not Michael(sorry Michael P if this offends you)I don't know what the big deal is ,so he is called Mike .I wish everyone would get off this horse of it's got to be a duplicate the original. They want some originality of their own in this version I certainly can't fault them for that.

Ironically my name is Chris too and i don't like christopher either but not as much as i hate Chrissy or back when i was younger Kissifur. (well maybe not that ironic as Chris seems to be a ridicuously common name, i for was 1 0f 4 Chris's on my Course at Uni. 1 of those chris's was also 1of 3 Chris's out of 4 in his student house). It was a cool day when i Learnt that Kit was short for Chris(topher) but know when ever called me that :( . I did once work with a guy name Kit, man i was so jealous :x

Well while we're at it, my name is Chris, too, and I don't necessarily like being called Christopher. When I'm called by my full name it's either by a close family member, or a friend/acquaintance who knows me well (or thinks they do). But the full name does feel like it reduces me back to a child, I have to admit. On the other hand, I've had a few ex-girlfriends who've called me by my full name and I sort of liked it because I felt that it signified how close we were.

That's your opinion. Actually, I've heard from a few people in person that Justin looks a bit too young for the part. Perhaps I've been following information about this telepic for too long, but he seems to look about the absolute perfect age to me. Not too old and not too young. I will agree he looks slightly younger than David Hasselhoff in the original Pilot episode, but I had always figured there was no more than a 3 or 4-year difference in age between the two.

The telepic has much larger problems than this overanalyzation. His name is Mike for a reason: To add a connection between himself and his father, and at the same time to separate them just enough. At least that's how I interpret it.

Good. My problem is a combination of two things. Age AND name. A boy named Mike doesn't sell me the character as a hero. Especially if he looks like a deer. I'm sorry to keep saying that but he looks like a cute, fuzzy, deer.

In fact I want a beanie baby to be made out of him so that my little niece and all the lovely ladies out there can sleep and hug with their wittle cutie pie Mike.

He was given the role to bring in the ladies but it's the same as having the lesbian agent and Mike having a threesome. It a freaking gimmick.

And no I'm not over analyzing. It was something that was distracting me the whole time. I kept asking my self why does he have that look in his face. Look, I would have felt better had they all called him Michael except for Sarah. She's been with the guy (if you know what I mean) so she can call him Mike, sweatie, or what ever. But if he's the hero and he's the young type at least prop him up a bit.

I'm sure in the series this will pop up, when someone refers to him as Michael. Probably someone older. Does anyone remember Michael being called Mike in the original series.
I can recall it being said one time, but I can't recall by who.
I just have a vauge recollection of it being said in a buddy like way.

My middle name is Christopher...
When a girl asked me my middle name I always said Christopher. That and my mom calling me by that name, I knew I was in trouble.
