Ratings for movie

Post by Krandor » Mon Feb 18, 2008 1:34 pm

Here are the ratings taken from http://www.zap2it.com/tv/ratings/zap-ra ... 1481.story.

At 10 p.m., "Knight Rider" delivered a 7.3/12 (and a healthy 5.1 adults 18-49 rating) for NBC. ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" posted a 5.7/9, while the debut of a cleaned-up "Dexter" on CBS earned a 5.2/9.

Will these rating be enough for the "green light" for the new series?

Two things are very encouraging: it built substantially from it's lead-in, and it added viewers every half-hour.

Dexter is soooo better than this (though not the same kind of show at all) and it scored far behind.
Ratings do look good, hopefully it'll be enough.

Guys... 13 million people! This is huge. And I'm dead certain that a good chunk of them LOVE the show. With some fine-tuning (no SPM morphs / more traditional structure / new KARR and Goliath) this could be the revival we've been all waiting for.

Those numbers look very encouraging especially the demographics. And with the strike shortening the pilot season there are going to be much fewer shows then normal trying to get on the fall schedule. I think KR has a good chance. Put it on Monday with Chuck and Heroes.

Put it on Monday with Chuck and Heroes.
Problem with this would be it would either have a 7 or 10 o clock time slot (Chuck airs at 8 and Heroes at 9) so i don't think it would fit on that night unless they moved Chuck to another day and gave KR the 8 oclock slot.

It would need the 8pm slot, Monday at 10PM would be murder just like it was to Journeyman and very unfitting. Give it a 8PM time slot on either Tuesday or Wednesday and they'll be good. Then again they love to put their crappy gameshows on at that time and I dunno what they'd have to compete with this fall since I really don't watch anything on those days at that time. Well 9PM Wednesday could work as I doubt Bionic Woman is going to make it to a second season. What kind of competition is there on Tuesdays and Wednesdays ?

How to they find out how many people are actually watching? I don't think my TV broadcasts that it's being watched or what channel I'm watching. I was always mystified how that worked. :?

They have a sample group, with people have have either Nielsen boxes or they can keep track via DVRs from cable and satellite companies. They take the percentage and apply it to an estimate of how many homes/TV viewers there are.

Yes this is very encouraging. I would move heroes off of monday and pair KR with Chuck as those two shows have a somewhat similar "feel" to them. I'd have Chuck being the lead in.

Lets hope NBC sees past the naysayers... and realizes that most people that actually watched the show and loved it... (as did I) don´t react online... The movie was cool, Hear hear to a new KR series!

And I bet that sample isn't even nearly as many as those that actually watched it. That's the thing with any "sampling" - it never speaks for everyone because it can't include everyone.

I think they should go with it despite all that. Hopefully they will.

NBC has released data that puts the ratings in a VERY positive light - which could help its series decision. Also, the exec who helped develop the series, was just given a promotion - so I'm guessing that works in our favor as well. :)
KNIGHT RIDER' SCORES THE TOP 18-49 RATING FOR ANY MOVIE ON ANY NETWORK IN NEARLY THREE YEARS

IN TOTAL VIEWERS, 'KNIGHT RIDER' ATTRACTS NBC'S BIGGEST NON-SPORTS VIEWERSHIP IN ITS TIME PERIOD SINCE THE EMMY AWARDS IN AUGUST 2006

'KNIGHT RIDER' RACES TO A FIRST-PLACE FINISH IN ADULTS 18-49, TOTAL VIEWERS AND OTHER KEY MEASURES

'AMERICAN GLADIATORS' MATCHES NBC'S HIGHEST NON-SPORTS 18-49 RATING IN ITS TIME PERIOD IN MORE THAN A YEAR, SURGING 90 PERCENT IN 18-49 FROM ITS FIRST HALF-HOUR TO ITS FOURTH

NBC RANKS #1 ON SUNDAY IN ADULTS 18-49 AND OTHER KEY MEASURES, MARKING THE NETWORK'S FIRST SUNDAY WIN IN 18-49 WITHOUT A BOOST FROM SPORTS SINCE AUGUST 2006

BURBANK, Calif. – February 18, 2008 – Paced by the made-for-television movie event "Knight Rider," which scored the highest 18-49 rating for any movie on any network in nearly three years, NBC won Sunday night in adults 18-49 and other key demographic measures, according to "fast affiliate-based" "live plus same day" viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.

Last night from 9-11 p.m. ET, the made-for-television movie "Knight Rider" (5.0 rating, 12 share in adults 18-49, 12.7 million viewers overall) delivered the highest 18-49 rating for any made-for-television movie, multiple-part movie or theatrical film on any network since March 6, 2005 ("Their Eyes Were Watching God" on ABC). In total viewers, "Knight Rider" attracted NBC's biggest overall viewership in this time period, excluding sports, since the Emmy Awards on August 27, 2006.

"Knight Rider" raced to a first-place finish in its highly competitive time period in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54, total viewers and other measures, including all key adult-male demographics.

"Knight Rider" accelerated steadily over its two hours and in its final 10-11 p.m. hour beat the ABC-CBS competition of "Brothers & Sisters" and "Dexter" combined among adults 18-34 and all key adult male demos. In the final lap, the 10:30-11 p.m. lead-in to local news, "Knight Rider" clocked a winning margin of 74 percent in adults 25-54 (with a 5.9 rating to a 3.4 for ABC's second-place "Brothers & Sisters") and an 86 percent margin in adults 18-49 (5.2 vs. a 2.8 for "Brothers & Sisters").

From 7-9 p.m. ET, "American Gladiators" (3.0/8 in 18-49, 7.3 million viewers overall) matched NBC's highest 18-49 rating in the time period excluding sports in more than a year (since January 7, 2007). From its first half-hour to its fourth, "American Gladiators" nearly doubled its 18-49 rating, surging by 90 percent (to a 3.8/9 from a 2.0/6) and increased in overall viewership by 74 percent, or 3.9 million persons (to 9.1 million from 5.2 million). Versus the unscripted programming that NBC ran in this time period on the same night last year, "Gladiators" was up 36 percent in 18-49 rating (3.0 vs. 2.2).

NBC ranked #1 on Sunday night in adults 18-49, 18-34 and 25-54 and in all key adult-male demographics, pending updates. This marks NBC's first Sunday win in 18-49 without a significant boost from sports programming since the Emmy Awards telecast on August 27, 2006.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for Sunday night are: NBC, 4.0/10; ABC, 3.7/9; Fox, 3.2/8; CBS, 2.1/5; CW, 0.3/1. In overall total viewers, February 17 preliminary results are: ABC, 11.1 million; NBC, 10.0 million; CBS, 9.2 million; Fox, 7.3 million; CW, 838,000.

Note that all national ratings are "live plus same day" unless otherwise indicated.

...the bbc seems more than abit interested in Knight Riders success....hmmmm. Wonder if they are eyeing up paying money to show the series???? I'm sure ITV will be in the hunt as well.

Well, whether the film was actually good or not seems to be irrelevant in terms of getting picked up for the Fall season. There is certainly a lot of room for improvement, but a lot of things could be tweaked in time for a series. This board is also one of the top references for TV producers and reporters to gather feedback, and the mixed reviews here no doubt get attention. I guess that's why when the latest attempt gets bashed in immature ways, in my opinion it makes the community look bad. It's even embarrassing to a certain degree.
