Kilmers voice don't fit

Post by K2000kid » Wed Feb 13, 2008 4:50 pm

OK i seen the you tube clip with the new kilmer voice
NOT WORKING, get arnett back
Arnett gave KITT a little bit of a dark side
almost like KARR

Kilmer should really try to darken his voice a little
he couldn't fill the cape and cowl in Batman Forever either

Hardly fair to compare this to the travesty that was Batman Forever. It wasn't Kilmer's fault they wanted to camp it all up. Clooney is a fantastic actor and look at the piece of rubbish Batman HE was in!

I prefer Kilmer as KITT, Arnett sounded too like KARR. He was good, don't get me wrong, but Kilmer's voice really does sound like an updated KITT, much more suited to this.

Congrats Kilmer if you're reading by the way, for getting the part. Fantastic!! We're very happy you did :D :D :D

It isn't bad. I was surprized. I thought it would be so lame since he's well known, but it does work.

I hope the add a bit of computer effects on the voice to make it sound a bit more robotic, but if they don't I can live with it.

I've seen the 5 spoilerish clips. We are in for an exciting well put together movie! So now I'm just looking forward to seeing it.

Kilmer's voice definitely has a very HAL vibe to it. He definitely is taking a different direction than Arnett did (assuming the growly voice we've heard in previous ads was him). Truth be told, Arnett's voice had much more expression to it - but I wonder if that was the intent. VK's take on KITT may be more "computer like" with perhaps more humanity inserted towards the end of the movie? Guess we'll know once the movie airs.

I watched the clips again but used headphones for the sound and you can tell the sound isn't completed yet, meaning mixed, final music etc. It comes off more like temp tracks mixed in with some final sounds. Also some of the scenes, the casino one especially seemed to be a bit flat in terms of color correction, angle choices etc. which is normal for rough cuts. I think the final product will sound and look better than the clips we have seen.

Hey! We have a quick reply option now, great! BWHAHA

Most of the clips we've seen don't even feature Will Arnett's voice, I'm fairly sure most of the audio featuring the KARRish voice was not Will Arnett and was a placeholder from their playing around to see what kind of voice they'd like. Yeah, the audio featuring Val sounds very unfinished, we'll find out in just a few more days how they've mixed and tweaked it.

"Hello Sarah"... "Hello Mike"...
KITT sounds warm, friendly, ingenuous, kind of childish and i *love* this! I would have hated a bully car. This kind KITT is much more enjoyable and close to the original.

But, was it really Kilmer's voice?

One thing we need to take into consideration is that they're rushing this thing. Every single dialog line inside the cars sounds terrible, for example. They have to filter and eq EVERYTHING still.

Those 5 clips are unfinished. They had to rush them to try and get some coverage on TV before the show airs. I work in PR so now I understand that you NEED to give the press material days (or months) in advance; that's what you call "lead time." No snippets on TV otherwise.

The editing is especially sloppy, another indication of a rushed job. But I have faith that the finished show will be awesome, certainly better than any other KR incarnation post-1986.

Well, I admit Arnett did sound more like KARR. But then KARR had two voice actors do him - Peter Cullen and the late, great Paul Frees - both great voice actors. Too bad Arnett has that contract. They should have used Kilmore to begin with and saved Arnett for a future episode where KARR returns! I hope they do bring back KARR and that KARR becomes more a regular. I hope they'll consider having Peter Cullen reprise the role (since Frees is deceased). That would really rock!

I'm sorry but I think they made a bad choice by choosing a well known actor for playing KITT. I'm going to sound like a broken record because I've said this before but it takes away the character of the car by choosing Kilmer.

EVERY time KITT talks I'm going to think about Kilmer.

Not only that, I'm not impressed with Kilmer's voice in the released promo material anyway, he sounds dull and just lifeless compared to Arnett.

I can relate to people who said Arnett's version sounded like KARR, he did, but that voice got me pumped and excited.

And now they got Kilmer on board.....eh. Whatever.

We'll see if they do anything with his voice come Sunday night.

I think I can agree, Kilmer sounds kind of bored but hopefully things can get fixed up and it doesn't sound that way in the final product..

If those four Ford Focus commercials are an indication of Kilmer's true KITT voice, then I'm happy with it. They have much more expression in them than the previous videos IMO.

I thought the voiced sucked but maybe it can be changed around. Are we talking about val kilmer? Sorry if that may seem stupid but i don't see anything about the persons first name.

I like Kilmer's voice here.

I was anti the Optimus Prime tpye gravely voice we were hearing in some promos.

What ended up in the show was more appropriate in my opinion. It's a bit robotic, but with hints of a Data-like "I want to be a real boy" quality.

And looking at it from a logistic sense, Kilmer's voice is clear and well pronounced...which would make much more sense than a dark gravely one ("What was that KITT? I couldn't make it out. You were growling at me.")

That was Val Kilmer? Wow hmm he did a good job but I don't know how he'll be when KITT will (i'm almost sure) have more of a personality.

If it gets picked up as a series. I doubt Val Kilmer will be the voice. They may bring in a new voice talent. That will be avaible on short notice to read new lines if needed. What if Val is off making a movie and can't make it into a sound studio to redo a few lines.

Val Kilmer has signed a contract to do at least five seasons of Knight Rider - so he WILL be doing the voice. Even if they were unhappy with him (which they aren't!) it would cause NBC and them a large sum to break the contract.

I think Kilmer pegged it! He's a great voice. And he stuck true to the original pilot in how he did KITT. I think we should wait and see after a few episodes (and maybe a whole season) how KITT evolves and how Kilmer evolves with the character. I think he can really do this!

Sure I'm kinda dismayed that William Daniels didn't reprise the role but I am understanding as well some of the reasons why he wouldn't be able to. I think Kilmer is doing a great job in keeping with what Daniels had done.

I think it'll work out just fine.
