They've got a well-known artist to re-do the original theme for the movie; it should be pretty cool.

If it goes to series, the producers want to have a new theme done every week by a different artist, all doing their take on the original theme. That's a pretty neat idea.

See, THAT'S what I want hear... Who knows if they'll actually wind up doing that or not. But I love the fact that they are exploring new ideas, trying out new and unique things to set a tone for the series. I'm curious to see if they come up with a unique visual style as well.

Very nice, hopefully its a good artist. Although in the video when NBC had the event introducing KITT and the cast, is that theme what we will hear in the show, it does sound kinda cool. :)

No, you probably won't hear the new rendition of the theme until Feb 17th.

That was N.I.B. by Black Sabbath... and I really hope that isn't the theme.

I wouldn't exactly say that having a different artist performing the theme is a new idea... WEEDS, anyone?

You're right, it's not a new idea. It just hasn't been done to death.

The KR theme song has been sampled 1,000 times in popular music to the point where if they just stuck the old theme in I don't think anyone would bat an eyelash. :P

Thing is, I've noticed in recent years there are very few memorable theme songs at all, especially among scifi oriented shows. "Heroes" barely has one for instance (though it has good music in the show). The only example of a theme song that stands out in my mind right now is "Battlestar Galactica". I wouldn't be surprised if some quickie music was slapped onto fast scrolling credits in 20 seconds and it just jumped into the movie OR if an opening sequence is negated altogether with just a quick title shot and then the actor's names superimposed on the first few minutes of scenes.

goldbug, you might be right. That is certainly the way most shows are going these days. I think so much air time is chewed up with commercials now that the producers want as much time as possible to tell the story, hence no more opening themes. But I think for this show, because of the tradition involved, they will respect, and bring back, the theme in one form or another. Plus, since it's a two hour, they have the luxury of a little more time.

The song in the background was N.I.B. by Black Sabbath, which is an awesome song.

If the rumours of the pilot being presented in a washed out comic book like style are true, the choice of N.I.B. could also be a kind of appropriate one since KITT would essentially be serving as Mike's Lucifer, taking him away from the life that he was leading so that he could start anew.

I have an open mind about the new theme(s). It sounds like they have the right idea. Plus, I think it's not as risky of a choice as picking the right vehicle was.

I don't think I was clear about this. The theme is going to be the original theme, just re-interpreted by new artists. I'm assuming they'll be a lot of sampling involved.

Patience is a virtue

Me personally, I'll be trying my best to get an online tv-player working. Mind you, it'll be something like 3am UK time!!!!

My company sends stuff overseas every day. Shouldn't be a problem at all. Just remind me when it gets closer to air.

It would be great to see it sooner rather then later,

We are just about to get the Bionic woman here, so I guess if KR goes to a series we could have it about June/July in uk.

There is another possibility, which is that the theme song may play in the background somewhere during the movie as a homage. I could see it being anything from music coming to a car passing by or even as a cell phone ring (a la Denny Crane's cell phone making the "Star Trek communicator" noise on "Boston Legal").

How about the background music during the episodes, will that also be played by the artist of the week?
Since the original show used synthesizers, especially by Don Peake, I've always imagined the possible new show would have modern synth music utilized too, for example sounds / instruments from trance music. Of course I'd like to hear in the episodes current hitmusic too, just like in the original series :)
