What Season Is This Promo Shot From?

Post by Joe Huth » Sun Oct 01, 2006 4:42 pm

I'm trying to better organize my Knight Rider photo collection, and need help positively identifying which season some photos were taken for. Up first:

Image

It's either 1st, 2nd or 3rd season!

It isn't a 3rd season nose by the looks of it. I.e the turn signal covers present. That's all the help i can offer my friend :-P

Season 3 did have the turn signal indents like this car has. I can usually tell the season by Hasselhoff's hair, but this one eludes me :)

I wanna say it is a season one or two promo. Possibly one.

It has that mocked up overhead in it and looks to have the
flat back seats from 82-83 in it. That and I thought after season
2 they removed the grills from the fog lamp areas. Even season
two didn't have them to often.

That and a lot of the seaosn one promo pictures were taken against
those big black windows in that picture. Edward Mulhare seemed to be in
alot of them in that background as well.

I'd go for Season 3, Joe - David's afro was a bit bigger in Seasons 1 and 2.

The flat seats you see in this picture are from an 83 or 84 car. Actually, I'm starting to lean towards this being season 2 since you can spot those flat seats in a few episodes, including Return to Cadiz and Merchants of Death.

I would say that's season 2 judging by KITT's nose and MK's hair. :)

It's a Season 2 promo. There are quite a few shots from that photo shoot, and one of them was used for the "Goliath" TV Guide ad, and another appeared in Starlog's February 1984 issue. I have a few original NBC slides of pictures from that session, and they were taken in Summer 1983 (although I will have to check for the exact date).

I agree Season 2 looks like it, the way Michael and KITT look in that photo makes me think that, but one thing I am not sure of is the turn signal coverings, weren't they in season 1 most of the time?

The first one was taken on the set of "Diamond's Aren't a Girl's Best Friend" (outside Lauren's apartment). Again, there are several different poses available, most popular being David crouching in front of the car.

The second is Season 2 again -- the photo shoot that David mentions in his bio (K.I.T.T. parked on the Universal lawn, and Universal head honcho Lew Wasserman threatened to cancel the show if they ever did it again).

The third is an interesting one; the background is definitely Season 2, but there are a *lot* of variations of the actors in front of it. I'd hedge my bets and say Season 2 again.

Any more? :)

Nah... The third pic is obviously season 1... Look at the scanner position of the KITT image behind Michael...

For that third pic, doesn't Hasselhoff's shirt look like a season 3 shirt? His hair looks season 3 also. I always thought the "Pink Shirt Shoot" was from season 3 only because Hasselhoff wore that shirt in a season 3 episode. Organizing my collection might be trickier than I thought....how about these:

Imranbecks: The image of K.I.T.T. has the scanner in the original location from the pilot episode, but they are all Season 2 promos, again taken during mid-1983.

Joe: The Pink Shirt Shoot is Season 3, and I know what you mean, as I have been trying to organise a lot of these for a gallery on the Archive for years now. It's possible that last pic was Season 3...

That last set:

1. Season 4

2. Season 3 (the "K.I.T.T. Wire Shoot" features Edward and Patti, 1984)

3. Season 3 again.

Thanks for your input, Paul. Right now, I have my photo collection first sorted by Actor (Hasselhoff, Mulhare, Group Photos) and then by season. I may re-work it to sort by Season and then Photo Shoot....

The picture with Hasselhoff with the silver tie (and in other ones from this shoot, holding a lion)...doesn't Hasselhoff's hair look pre-4th season? He got that shorter haircut for the 4th season and in this picture it looks like it is still long.

lol That's exactly as I am trying to organise mine!

I found another possible Season 3 promo with the Season 2 promo background...

The thing is, you're comparing when they're taken with what they're promoting. I know that all the Silver Tie photos started to appear in the print media during Season 4. They were taken before he got his "GQ Rider" haircut, but they are still mid-1985. The same can be said of his haircut in the mid-1983 shoots, not exactly like it appears in the shows... probably styled specifically for the photo shoots.

Ahh, I understand where you're coming from now, Paul. That adds even more complexity to this! I have a bunch of shots like the one you posted with the season 2 background/season 3 picture. Actually, it appears most of my "Silver Car" promo pics are season 3 (with Hasselhoff in multiple outfits). This is the only season 2 one I have found in my collection so far:

The poster that appeared in The A-Team is another that uses that background (with what appears to be a Season 3 photo). The most widely-used photo from that set was the one that appeared on the cover of the 1984 Knight Rider Annual, by Grandreams.

Image (an enlarged version can be found in my cover gallery)

This is the only case of a background being reused (most likely added after the shoots, not during). All the "K.I.T.T Wire Diagram" photos are Season 3, all the Lawn photos are Season 2, and so on.

Another one...

The cover of Enter Magazine in Nov. 1984 (available at the Archive) also features a Season 2 shot with that background -- a slightly different pose (flipped) than the Grandreams Annual.

Aaargh! Just noticed an error -- when I said Pink Shirt Shoot earlier, I thought you meant the shots of Hasselhoff in a studio (minus K.I.T.T.) wearing the pink shirt. Those appear to be Season 3. The "Pink Shirt Shoot", which I called the Lawn Shoot earlier, is definitely Season 2 (and seems to have been around the same time, possibly even the same day) as the shoot that started this thread!
