If KARR was made by Microsoft

Post by FuzzieDice » Thu Jun 29, 2006 12:16 am

In light of the fun we're having in this thread:

http://knightrideronline.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=9088

Let's imagine if KARR was made by Microsoft!

Hmmm... Instead of crashing, because he's self-preservation based, he'd just keep rebooting!

FLAG would keep sending him updates that he would refuse so he doesn't loose his programming and would eventually not be compatible with new versions of programs.

He would run on Windows 3.1 and wouldn't be able to speak.

KARR would suffer from Y2K

KARR would have a master reset button

When KARR stole the laser from FLAG when the laser was installed it wouldn't let you activate the software to run it so he would have no idea how to fire it.

Year 2000. In the last century, people were concerned about the "Y2K bug", which people thought would cause catastrophic global consequences because computers weren't designed to understand dates in the year 2000 and beyond. I remember in August 1999, I got my first "Y2K compatible" computer. Older computers had to apply date patches and software patches.

Turned out the Y2K bug wasn't nearly as catastrophic as people thought. :)

I used to have quite the laugh at all of the computer illiterate people worrying about the "Y2K bug". People thought it was going to stop cars, kill clocks and microwaves, make watches not work, make the power go out, etc. The funny thing is...I actually did see *1* Y2K bug on Jan 1. It was in the old Dreamforge IRC server (the one Dalnet used at the time). Starting on Jan 1, if you issued a /date command to the server, it would list the year as 19100, and it caused a buffer overflow that messed up what was displayed for the server uptime. Other than that, the server still worked fine though. That particular bug was fixed very quickly...my IRC network had a patch for it within 2 days. I can't remember if it was fixed by the people that distributed the software or if someone on our network hacked it, but it was still very easy to fix. Well-written software had no problems, and the software that DID had problems was usually very old. It was caused by really stupid programmers using one byte for the year, and then just adding in "19" before it manually. One byte can go from 0-255, so it ended up with 19100. I can't fathom why anyone would write software like that, especially on Unix systems where you can just do a system call to get the time. Pure idiocy, IMO. But then, computers don't care, they just follow the instructions that they're given. To me, it seems that it would be *harder* to handle the date that way than doing it properly. When we fixed our IRC server, the date handling code actually got slightly smaller by making it Y2K compliant.

Oh yeah, over here it was called the Millenium Bug, but I was young and didn't know much about the details :-P

I remember on the CBS news they did a story this lady who started a farm to be prepared for the aftermath of Y2K. She said her family would take people in as long as they would work for their food and shelter. I bet that woman felt real stupid when nothing happened.
Flyer Guy: "You really a talking car?"

People didn't seam to think that its just a clock big deal it would just go to 01 or whatever couldn't you just turn the date back on it a couple of years until they fixed the bug.

I think we got off the topic here. :) The topic was what would happen if KARR was made by Microsoft....?

Hmmm....

Microsoft would be sued and we would all be using Linux or Mac.

You should make an addition too you know K.A.R.R very well.

Well, I did in my first post. Hmm... If KARR was made by Microsoft, well, the way KARR is, it makes you wonder if he wasn't made by Microsoft in the first place.

Oh, I know... if KARR was made by Microsoft, he'd randomly eject people from the car for no particular reason (at least in TDR, he needed to get rid of excess weight to make a jump).

You all know when you install a new device on your computer there sometimes can be 'a problem has occured, your device may not work properly' whatever it is. It would be funny if he was resetting his systems and his scanner came up with the error and it made him act like he was drunk or high lol.

KARR would need six Floppy disc drives(and i mean for the huge discs that REALLY were floppy) and his scanner would take up half of his nose cone to use six 100 watt house bulbs :)

KARR would print the Syntax Error or Unknown command on his monitors every time he wouldn't understand something.
Remember, this is early 80's show and Microsoft didn't had windows yet  The MS-DOS was their OS back then, I'm not sure what else but at least the MS-BASIC too which I had in my Salora Manager homecomputer in the 80's, it was dated 1983 though.

Every time he tried to do more than just drive (like talk and drive), he can't because there isn't enough memory. :D

Or, in K.A.R.R.'s words, if asked this question, he'd say:

"I would be rendered completely inoperable. Therefore I do not wish to go back to Microsoft!"

It would be the death of Bill Gates.
Literally KARR would come and kill him.
Figuratively microsoft would go bankrupt.

KITT would be running the experimental pre-Windows 3.0 software and K.A.R.R. could only hope to be running Unix over MS-DOS. Perhaps, he would be trying to switch over to CBM's GEOS OS, so he could hope to drive, speak and make plans on how to survive at the same time.

If KARR was made by MS, Bonnie would've quickly hit Ctrl+Alt+Del in Trust Doesn't Rust. Format and reload with KITTs programming, end of story :D

If KARR was made by MS, KARR would be programmed to do Bill Gates bidding and his world domination plan.

I just realized something...

If KARR were made by MS, (And, presuming that KARR would have the same ATM as KITT did) anyone who sat in the pilot's seat would be filthy rich without even having to step out.

ROTFL Jup! Now that would be a good reason for Michael to want to capture KARR so much!

KITT: I'm sorry Michael, you've used the last of the bills. I'm broke.

Michael: Then we need to find KARR NOW, and capture him!

KARR would then throw money at them to try and eliminate "excess weight".
