Knight Rider: Season 4 DVD

Post by Knight Rider Archive » Wed Mar 29, 2006 7:43 am

Have been working my way through my review copy, and sadly, I have noticed some of the same problems noted with the Season 3 set... some sound effects are gone.

Also, Season 4 (Knight Rider's first, and only, telecast in Stereo) is now presented in a Mono format.

More when I post my review with the next Knight Rider Archive updates on Monday.

SURPRISE!

As tempted as I am to continue bashing Universal for their pathetic DVD efforts, the situation speaks for itself.

So we have to ask them for a reissue of season 4 too? Would you be able to let them know about it for us? But then again, what will they do about it? I now am a bit disheartened because I wonder if they ARE going to reissue Season 3 fixed. I hope that things work out.

I ordered my Season 4 through Amazon.com as well and I can't wait until I get it.

Paul -

Don't make us wait until Monday - what the heck is the special feature "Original KITT Blueprints"?? Anything new or interesting?

Also, did you get my email a few days back?

Joe

I'm wondering if Universal is even aware that the fourth season is flawed as well. And if they are aware, or become aware due to fan complaints, will they recall the sets?

I don't know what the situation with Universal is, but I will enquire (and I'm sure many others will too).

In Knight of the Juggernaut, the boat that Michael and Marta leap into has no engine sound fx (does in the teaser), SPM and EBS are affected here and there, also button pressing and even footsteps.

Knight Song and The Scent of Roses are missing their teasers. (Knight Song I could perhaps understand, since it uses a New Edition song at the beginning for advertising purposes; The Scent of Roses, being a fan favourite, I can't, unless they intend to reissue it later on).

All episodes have been downgraded from Stereo to Mono.

A complete rundown and review will go up on Monday with my other updates. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news....

Joe, many thanks for your email! What with this review I have been offline for much of this week, but I am working on it and will get back to you after Monday, when the site is updated.

Oh, the "Blueprints" are an interactive version of the KITTKit, for your TV. The famous KITTKit apears on the screen, and with your DVD remote you can zoom in to the various sections. No Hasselhoff ads promoting it, though!

The remember the 80's is a bit lame about 3 4 minutes of Knight Rider with a bit from David, but all the sort of stuff we have all heard before.

As for the episode's I am short on time untill I finish work on sunday but I have got through half of KOTJ, and noticed to sounds effects missing.

1 when RC3 stops the car theives stealing Kitt and Jumps off the car there is no thud.

2. When nordstum Injects Devon with the truth sirum and squuezes his arm there should be a squelching sound but that is also missing.

That's all I can report at the moment.
If I spot anymore before anyone else does I will let you know.

There is an upside the annoying universal logo and tune that they put on season on previous season relaases at the start of each episode has gone.

Sad the sound is mono put from what I have seen the Picture quality matches the standard of the other seasons and apart from any missing effects the sounds is crisp and clear.

Lets just hope the sound effects issue is not as bad as season 3.

right off to watch a bit more.

Thankfully, it's not as bad as all that; "Knight of the Juggernaut" is the only episode with many of its sound effects missing (I could spot only one other case of this in the set).

Of course, they still should have done much better.

funny how they haven't included scene section.

But they have made a better job then with season 3 I think.

from what I have seen I would give it 6/10 overall.

No stereo or extras keep it from being the ideal set :x

My review has just been posted.

I agree, the pushed-forward release date and the lack of scene selection gives this set a rushed feel.

The picture quality is still unrivalled (although I thought Deadly Knightshade wasn't up to the standard of the other shows) but the sound lets this down -- Knight of the Juggernaut comes out the worst, and Redemption for a Champion is missing one effect: K.I.T.T. engine as he speeds away from the dam crossfire.

It's disappointing, but not as bad as it could have been. Still, if we're to expected to part with our cash to buy them, we have a right to expect more... or rather, the episodes as they were originally screened, at the very least.

THIS IS BS! The sound mixer must have been totally RETARDED!

I just let Universal have a piece of my MIND! They can't do this to us...

Gee, and i came on full of hope, since my set is on the way. I have "Knight of the Juggernaut" elsewhere, thank you Columbia house- What other sound effects are missing? How bad is it? I'll have to read your review. Truthfully, if this is all there is, i can live with it.
KITT: I walked right into that one, didn't I?
Michael: More like Turbo Boosted.

My DVD set was sent from Amazon.com today, so I should get it in a couple days.

I too am probably going to be a little disappointed at the sound effect problem and no extras (I was hoping that ONE of them would at least have an interview of William Daniels, who I regard right up there with David Hasselhoff as the stars of the show).

But I'm thinking, the show IS over 20 years old, and they have maybe old tapes to deal with. Though I wonder if other tapes like from Columbia House are good, why they didn't rely on masters from those (I'm sure they must have had them from when they made them for distribution).

I'll be just glad to see those episodes of Knight Rider again though and finish my collection of DVDs. :) We'll have to wait and see if Universal issues the promised re-issue of Season 3 and if they will to a re-issue of Season 4.

This whole sound thing is ridiculous!

The entire set was downgraded to mono!? WTF

That's an interesting switch considering that Season 3 DVD was released as English Dolby Digital 2.0, which incidentally is stereo.

Again, WTF.

Has anyone heard about S3 replacement discs?

Despite the season 4 DVD snafus, the set will still be more fun to watch on TV for me than D. Hasselhoff's unnecessarily overexposed divorce......

Agreed... us die-hard fans will want the series to collect. We can only hope that replacement discs are in the works...

Knight of the Chameleon won't play on my S3 disc, and I didn't return it because I am holding out for possible replacement discs that some of our community leaders reported that may be in the works.

We'll see.

But yes, this will be a better alternative than the uppity divorce... Grr!

Double grr!

Hey Scott,

"Knight of the Chameleon" wont play for me either. I thought it was just the disk, but maybe not...anyone else have problems with that ep?

Joe

P.S. That top picture on the back of the S4 box set (Hasselhoff from "Juggernaut") looks like someone was interviewing him! You can barely see a microphone in the bottom of the pic and a woman's face on the left.

Knight of the Chameleon played just fine for me. I have had a problem with my season 1. It was the first part of a episode that I can't get to play. The rest of it is ok though. I will have to go back and see which show that was.

well, at least the pictures on the back of the box are from season 4 and not from 1 or 2 like all the other seasons were, always had pictures of season4 on there. :P
