what ep's that in?
On the other hand, the cops were generally portrayed as baddies (with all those car chases) or incompetant (sp?).

Probably the writers found it interesting to show cops as baddies because they wanted to do something different at the time. It was kind of the same thing the writers in Dukes of hazzard and the A-Team were probably thinking where the cops were bad. I think that the general audience see police as the "good guys" but it becomes very interesting to see the cops as baddies in shows like these where the hero tries to exploit the bad cops. It's always fun to see the hero capture the bad or currupt cops at the end of the episode because it shows how good the hero really is.Knight4life wrote:Why cops are portrayed as baddies or lazy kind?

Its in Season 1 the episode is the one where Michael is with that terrorist group its also the first one i have seen with the t-tops taken off KITT's roof. Michael was pretending he was Doogen in that episode.Knight2000 wrote:James_kr wrote:i liked in that episode where the cops are checking the speeds people are doing on that quiet road and KITT is in auto-cruise and does a jump really quickly and from what I remember I think they say "maybe its not a car"

It's the episode Inside Out. The scene in mention is in the begining of the episode. Michael is fighting with Doogan inside of KITT and they turbo boost over a truck in the road. That's where the cops see KITT and say
Cop 1: What was that?
Cop 2: It's a Pontiac.
Flyer Guy: "You really a talking car?"
KITT: "No. I'm a tight end for the Chicago Bears!"

KR portrayed many corrupted cops too. Remember that moron of a sherriff in The Rotten Apples? I think he is the most annoying bad guy in the whole series. The guy was not much older than me (I'm 20) and still speaking to Michael like if he was an idiotic kid. If I were in Michael's place, I would have kicked that guy's ass. As it tuned out, the sherriff was one of the bad guys...
And there was that other cop in Good Day in White Rock. Man, was he a jerk! At least Michael could prove for him that the town was in danger.
And remember the corrupted Army Officers in Deadley Manuevers? Boy, I thought this was a taboo back in the days of the Cold War!

There's such a thing as crooked cops who unfortunately abuse their law-enforcement capabilities, so I'm glad they had stories of crooked cops, because corruption does exist in law enforcement.
I'm sure there were cops who weren't so crooked, even if they weren't featured on "Knight Rider" as much....

The crooked/annoying cops made for conflict in the plot. They were always getting in Michael's way and tried to make him out as the bad guy. It also made for some funny moment. We all know how much KITT hated impound lots.

Michael himself was a cop before he "died". The cops aren't always shown as bad guys...case in point: the episode where Michael lost his memory and reverted to Michael Long after an explosion, and he went back to his old police station. One of the officers or detectives knew what was going on and knew to call Devon (so apparently the Foundation had some people on the inside who helped to fake Michael's death and who knew what really happened. Then there was a S3 episode where he worked with his old partner for a bit.
"I have been a real cop, 35 years worth, you cant live on that the rest of your life, especially when the scum you put away have condo's in hawaii,There's such a thing as crooked cops
so what's wrong with a little stolen property? i deserve it!"
(white line warriers)
that dumb cop in the rotten apples kind of reminded me of buford T justice's son from smokey and the bandit

Well, it's obvious why the cops were made to appear lame on the show. I mean, if the cops were shown doing their jobs and good, it would distract the audience and it would also take the wind out of KITT and Michael's sails. I mean, KITT and Michael were the focus of the show, going around and catching the bad guys. What'd be the point of KITT and Michael being there if the cops were doing their jobs correctly?

True, imagine if 10 mins into the show, the cops had the case solved and the criminals locked upCB2001 wrote:Well, it's obvious why the cops were made to appear lame on the show. Michael would have more time to spend with his lady friend of the week. Poor KITT...Wizster wrote:True, imagine if 10 mins into the show, the cops had the case solved and the criminals locked upCB2001 wrote:Well, it's obvious why the cops were made to appear lame on the show.
