Title for Pilot Episode

Post by ColeGrad01 » Mon Nov 24, 2003 12:32 am

Today I was at a store in the mall for stuff like music and videos. I saw this old movie named FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX. That made me instantly think about KNIGHT OF THE PHOENIX. I wonder if that is where they got the idea for the name of the first KNIGHT RIDER show.

Well actually, the first episode didn't have a title, it was just the Pilot. They gave it the name "Knight of the Phoenix" when it entered syndication. But perhaps there is some strange connection with the person who eventually gave the Pilot a title. But I just think its because of Michael rebirth.

I think the title of the pilot episode did have something to do with the name of that movie.

They sound so much alike. I believe whoever named the first episode was thinking of that movie.

I am with Neil on this one. I am pretty sure that "Knight of the Phoenix" is named symbolically for the fact that Michael Long was shot, left for dead, and Michael Knight rose out of that, with a new identity.

i always thought it was named out of play-on words. knight = night and they were in pheonix. now that i think about it, they must've been in vegas and not in pheonix.

It was all about the syndicators going with the central plot of the story. (Yeah, they were in Vegas, not Phoenix.) If any thought at all went into it, then that would be it, since it was not the creators at work.

I thought the Michael Long scenes of the pilot took place in Reno, not Las Vegas.

Or was it "Goliath" that was set in Reno?

Crap, now I'm confused... :?

edit: I went and checked the scripts that are online at the KR Archive... the pilot starts out in a casino in Reno, and "Goliath" is set in Vegas. Guess that settles that one. :)

Both definitely removed from Phoenix. ;) At least Vegas and Reno are both in Nevada. :D (Sorry, I am in a bit of a mood, must be the prospect of having a vacation at the end of the week.)

(What's really hilarous is that some of the opening shots in the pilot are from Las Vegas, while others came from Reno. Go figure.)

Maybe there should be a Reno 911 and Knight Rider crossover. I can just see LT Dangle riding with Michael and hitting on him!
KITT project is on again!

Currently working on: brand new stock tan interior, almost done!

Then KITT will eject Mr. Dangle.

That would be funny.
