I think Nivek is meaning the oil spray should be in line with the back wheels so that its in the direct path of the car behind...instead of spraying from the center of the car as it is in the picture earlier in this thread.

Sure, that'd be wonderful, IF the car behind is staying in your wheels tracks. I guess to make it REALLY effective you could fish-tail it & spread the oil around everywhere Oil's too dangerous anyway. You'd get the bad guy, but what about grandma on her way to the shops? Screeeeeccchhh....bang! "Oh dear officer, I don't know what happened..." Something that disappears after a few minutes would be the go.

or you could just have a wide spray so it covers most of the area behind you....smart ass!
hey maybe you could use a silicon lubrication spray instead of oil. that stuff only ever seems to last for a few minutes before things start to sqweek again.

I suspect the easiest solution here is that the oil slick was just a feature that ran off of an oil canister safely tucked in near the back with it's own pump. Probably right next to the smoke canister.
Of course, I would think the tripple armed spike (something like a jack, only a whole lot more pointier) coming out a small trap door would be a whole lot more effective a defensive device than an oil slick. (Bad guys spin out, come to a stop, regain traction and continue pursuit. Spikes, on the other hand, pop the tires. No more pursuit.)

Jup you talking about the little 3 pronged tack things that you can scatter over the road and the puncture the tires?

Dude, I'm gonna go with Nivek's post:
If a baddie had bullet-proof tyres, spikes are likely to be ineffective, whilst oil might have sufficient effect. And it looks a little less suss (suspicious) if there's a little oil on the road instead of spikes. The oil would be assumed to have come from a leaking car, and thus be more discreet.

What, that much? Bucketloads? I tell ya, if I saw that much oil on the road, I'd think an oil tanker had a leak, not someone's sump. Oh, and how many baddies were there with bullet-proof tyres? If you used oil, it would have to be something a little less inconspicuous than black engine oil, in my opinion.Knight2000 wrote: it looks a little less suss (suspicious) if there's a little oil on the road instead of spikes. How about using oil and then dropping a flame onto it?
That would stop them for sure! and clean up the oil mess as well.

Hey, why even bother with the Oil Slick? All MK has to do is hit 'Pursuit', 'Rocket Boosters', 'SPM', or even 'Turbo Boost' and he can easily accelerate away from the baddies, even if they have nitrous oxide!
OR KITT could microjam the brakes/lock the steering wheel (like he did in Goliath).
I think it was just that there are so many ways to escape from baddies....
But anyhoo, returning to the oil brush (or spray) thingy, it featured in the Pilot ep. More specifically, when MK and KITT were in the Demolition Derby. In front of crowds.
It would be a little suss to use spikey thingies because everyone would suspect foul play (cheating). Since it is a demolition derby, where serious oil leaking can occur, through damage, it would not have been as suss.
Having said that, it was Buddy who pressed the button, and it was not necessary for him to do that, though it would have to shown off KITT's capabilities.
Okay I've lost my head. And I'm confused.... I have no idea what I'm babbling on about.
Using flames/grenades surely would cause harm to the pursuers (baddies), something KITT has to protect. A little oil would not cause much harm since the baddie car would only skid. A little.
Anyhoo, it worked for the show. Maybe it wouldn't work in real life, but then again, I guess KITT wouldn't be real for at least a few decades.
