Air cleaner lid shot from "Goliath"
So all you Trans Am owners out there, when Micheal lifts KITT's engine lid and tells him that 90% of his turbine blades are shot, is that a standard air cleaner cover he's holding? And are we supposed to believe that the Knight Industries turbofan propulsion system is mounted vertically?

Or, I could be curious as to whether or not that was the actual air cleaner lid for that engine. Are you familiar with the air cleaner on my car? It's a VP Holden Commodore 3.8 V6. Know that one? No? Well that's why I'M asking about KITTs. I haven't seen one. And cloudkitt, don't take life so seriously, dude.

I'm new here...has he said "Worst episode ever" yet?
"When Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes the same rib twice in succession, yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to believe, that this is some sort of a magic xylophone or something? Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder."

I havn't seen that ep in so long, I don't remember. I had an 83 Camaro with the same HO 305 that the Kitt T/A had so I will have to look for that ep when it reruns again on sci-fi. My 92 has FI so that's no help.
I'd say it was the air cleaner though. They made no real attempt to conceal the stock 305 most of the time so why should this ep be any different. No real mock up of the Knight Industries turbo jet engine was ever seen in the show.
Relax, folks. He asks a valid question. Don't like it, then don't post .

Well working on them can be rather tiresome too. Especially when they've got the latest, greatest, state-of-the-art onboard diagnostic system in them too, with multiple computer modules all chatting away on their own bus. Mind you, I'd happily work on KITT if he was real

It took me roughly a year to get a basic fundamental understanding of the 3rd gen Fbody. Your right about all that high speed electronic junk, Aussie! I just concentrate on the MPFI models now because that is what my current Firebird is running. Believe me, they are a pain in the butt! I'll take that old HO 305 anyday

That cover he picks up is off the original engine. It is the dual cover for a crossfire injected engine. This option was available on 82-83 trans am's. I am sure that 99.9 percent of people watching the show back then wouldn't even recognize what it was. Crossfires are a weird (and bad) design. I know, I have a few of them.

Mystery solved.
Seeing as how the KR television series never built a real OR prop turbine engine, then David simply used a stock air cover from the stock engine that was under the hood and called it whatever it needed to be called by the writers.
I suppose if they wanted to use something very unique, they could have located this odd little Toilet Paper holding air cleaner... (Sorry. I don't remember what old vehicle used that one.)

I realize that, again i say, i was joking
Also, the joking 'sigh' was more directed at this phrase, not your question about the air cleaner lid:
