Altaya 1/43 1984 GMC General Knight Rider semi-truck

Post by imranbecks » Sun Apr 11, 2021 11:13 am

After 39 years, the FLAG semi-truck is finally replicated beautifully as a scale model! 1/43 scale from Altaya in all its 1980s GMC General glory with its iconic black finish and gold trims.

Very detailed and an impressive looking model. They missed out the gold trims on the hood but it doesn't take away at how good looking this piece is!

Now it just needs the tiny square flap on top of the trailer that Garthe was able to squeeze out of when he was captured in Goliath.

Beautiful model, very nicely detailed :) The little roof hatch is easy to do, just glue there some black square plastic piece, slightly rounded edges and that'll do it :D

The interesting thing regarding the lack of the Knight's head logo is that Altaya actually have the Knight Rider license, as they've got a 1/8 scale partworks KITT in production right now.

Matt
Welcome aboard the Knight 2000.

Thank you. What's all this, it looks like Darth Vader's bathroom?

Yeah so weird. The logo is on the engine of their 1/8 KITT but the logo wasn't included on the truck.

That kitt is missing the door sidebar and the lower console looks like a season 3/4 model not the right one for a season 1/2 interior. Kitt also never had seatbelts on the side of the PMD bucket seats.

Actually, there were seatbelts in some of the interior shots in the pilot. But you're right, the model does seem to combine different elements from over the seasons. As best I can tell, it seems to be mostly inspired by the pilot version though. Still, whether it's a one-to-one recreation of the early hero car, or a blending, it's still appears to be of much higher quality than any model that's come before, and given the dearth of such high fidelity products, we're quite frankly nit-picking.

Wow, long time no see Matthew. Welcome back buddy. As high caliber hardcore fans we are, it's practically our job to nitpick. Then again models like the Jada all black interior with no stickers or the later released half dash of decals sent me into a frenzy with its incredible low suspension and "knight rider" license plate.

Those Jada Knight Rider cars are just terrible imo. The overall shape of the car is just off on many levels. And who is the genius that came up with the idea of turning on the scanner via opening the door. Close the door and the scanner turns off..lol

Thank you my friend, it's good to see you too.

I'm with you and Imran on those Jada ones. If they can't even get the absolute basics right, why release a model at all, right?! Hang on a minute, that's why the 1/43 scale KITT and KARR that Altaya are giving away looked so familiar. They're using pictures of the Jada models.

Sometimes there are models released, which clearly needed some additional work before release, like this 2nd gen Pontiac Firebird from BoS (Best of Show). Look at the rear end of this one:

Usually BoS models are nice ones, I don't know why they released that Firebird like that. For example their Pontiac Fiero model is nice, I have it and their Fisker Karma as well. Obviously I didn't buy that Firebird model :D

Hey everyone,
As a new person here, I find this semi so interesting, one thing I was hoping to see is how the inside is designed.
I am the voice of the Knight Industries Two Thousand Micro Processor, K I T T for easy reference, K.I.T.T. if you prefer.
