The 2008 movie aired in February17, 2008 The television show started in September 24, 2008. That 2 hour movie wasn't part of the series.

The 1982 series knight of the phoenix airedSeptember 26th, first episode October 1st. I could see that as a series which included a 2 hour episode since it was weeks apart.

The 2008 series had 7 months and its own pilot episode.

Maybe it had to be called a major motion picture but how can David start a series when Universal has the rights to that?

Last I heard, the Weinstein company owns the film rights. They got the rights in 2006 and Glen Larson was writing a movie script for them. I don't remember the details, but there was some kind of animosity between the Larson film project and the new series. I always considered the 2008 movie to be the pilot for the series and it's included on the dvd season set. It was what they called a back door pilot. They can make a film, gauge the reaction, and then decide whether to do a series. Knight Rider 2000 was the same deal and they decided not to do a series.

Actually I saw on a video interview that David explained kr2000 to be a movie of the week about 5 a year or so.

The movie was included as an extra but many movies include movies/full episodes as extras. The incredible hulk included a episode of the next season as an extra. That kr2008 2 hour movie was sold by itself through amazon as a blue ray movie without the description calling it a pilot for the series.
