I just noticed something, watching the pilot today, just for one scene, KITT's voice box, scanner, is different,
says KNIGHT 2000

this is in the scene where Michael is driving asleep and the cops pull him over and he acts deaf.

has anyone noticed this before?

Only noticed it the once, any other time the scanner is as normal or working with KITT's voice.

They might have reused footage as inserts from footage they used in the short presentation they showed to universal to get the 2 hour movie approved and later on changes were made both to the car's exterior and dash shots. For instance the scanner is on the tip of the bumper when Michael sees kitt for the first time and drives him with Devon as well as the scenes where he's turbo boosting through the comtron truck at night in pursuit of Tanya and her gang.Yest throughout most of the 2 hour movie you see kitt's scanner in the right position its usually for the entire series.

Thanks for the response Knight Racer, has that short presentation film ever surfaced anywhere at anytime?

That's exactly what they did for the dash! You see that vbox a few other times in the early season, some shots show it as a white vbox.

The pilot front nose was initially designed by someone else. Not sure if it's true, but I've heard once the series was picked up, Michael Scheffe came back and designed the nose we all love. The pilot nose was just a stock nose with the grills covered, and the hood extended, nothing more.

Joey.

Your welcome.I would have loved to see the short presentation to see what attracted universal to it specifically enough to deem it worthy of getting approved.

I like to lovingly call this a KITT that was long before his time. As in how he was so full of futuristic stuff, he even had mild morphing abilities. (Nanites...like TKR/KR08 had.) Which ranks right up there with those magical angles he could video record in. You know...the ones that could only be achieved by bouncing a camera off of an invisible mirror or two. (They would eventually resolve this impossiblity by creating S.I.D....the floating soccer ball. But, too little, way too late.)

Of course, I do think it's far worse when that one scene had this VHS cassette marked K.I.T.T. and in it are all these wonderful shots of Kitt jumping over things and smashing through things. Just how in the world did the lady whom had this collection tape even manage to set up all those randomly (lucky) placed cameras to make this footage with??? Sure, if this was an episode in 2013, it would all be surveillance footage. Not even remotely an answer for 1982, though.

Talk about coming from the magical land where they don't want to think or expect too much.

Perhaps as the Helios organization was highly intelligent, they could've used some sort of "James Bond" spying devices to record the footage of KITT and as Devon and Graham seemed to be good friends, Helios could've followed very closely what FLAG is doing and where Michael and KITT currently are heading, maybe even tapping into KITT's homing signal :P

I always felt the Helios group was more like the Highlander TV series group of watchers.Always on top of their target with many agents undercover in positions like maybe the military, post office, police department, newspaper reporters anyplace where they can be anywhere at any time.
