They do that to save money, two different front ends would require extra molds and tooling. I find it very annoying as well, at $60 per item one would think they could make that change and still make a decent profit.
Ummm, didn't u see the photo I posted previously? They had no problems with two different front ends for the Minimates SPM KITT and the normal KITT. Also the photo of the normal minimates KITT differs with the final product. So how do you explain that? You guys must not forget that what you see in photos as well as in videos from them are prototypes or samples and may differ with the end product which will be released to the public. Take my word for it, the end product will not have the gap between the scanner and the edge of the hood.

if that is the case, which I HOPE it is as the SPM and NON SPM mini mate cars share only some tooling with each other mainly the chassis/wheels interior, glass. I really hope that the non SPM version of the 1/15 car is more correct. as an owner of the 1/15 Delorean (part II version with fold down wheels) they got that car 100% correct proportionately, and with the exception of the missing DMC emblem on the grille (there IS a space for it to go tho) I have to say it looks like the 1/1 car, something I HOPE the NON SPM KITT will.

I hope you're right, I plan to purchase it either way, we may never get another talking KITT again.

FYI, the 1:15 dashboard will have decals that replicate the actual console.
:dash:
And all of the 1:15 KITTs shown have been prototypes, not final assembly or detail, so I wouldn't worry about any gaps, as prototypes are assembled by hand. Everything should fit together a lot better in production, and I think it will look at LEAST as good as the vintage Knight 2000 vehicle.

As far as interchangeable parts go, to include a part you can switch out, especially one that has electronics in it, would significantly raise the price of the car, making it less appealing to a wide range of customers. Ditto any transforming features. We try to keep price point as low as possible on these vehicles -- pricing problems were what held up our Star Trek ship production for so long.

Excellent! The packaging really reminds me of the 1/15 Hitari KITT R/C car which coincidentally also has the gas cap as a button.... Come to think abt it, when I look at it, its exactly the same packaging, only in black and slightly different illustrations...

I shall be patient and wait till January for the exclusive with Michael Knight figure.... The car is useless without the driver... :kitt:

It's pretty standard vehicle packaging for this scale. And we likely got our art from the same official style guide. But we have a window on the right hand side, as well, so you can see the taillights.

looks amazing owever ive noticed a small mistake......its a season 1 dash but on KITTs voicebox theres 2 yellow and 3 red lights on each side instead of the correct 2 yellow and 2 red lights not sure why it is bound to upset diehard fans hopefully it can be rectified before mass production :good:

Now if I can get my hands on a couple more I will be doing a custom K.A.R.R And Custom Garth Knight
The other would be to keep m.i.p
I collect the marvel Universe figures and have made a few customs

I have the car on pre-order at Entertainment Earth as well. The one from there is an exclusive with the Michael Knight figure and will be released some time in February next year.

We are already making a KARR. Not Garth, though.

Just purchased my 1:15 DST K.I.T.T. from the Toys'R'Us across from the mall where I work north of Seattle, WA. I braved walking there and back in a pretty steady rain with winds of 20-25 MPH (gusts probably up to 35) just on the off chance they would have it and luckily, they did. There was only 1 other DST K.I.T.T. on the shelf but they also had about 5 of the Minimates K.I.T.T.s on the shelf above it too (although sadly I didn't pick one of those up because I already have one). So far, I'm highly impressed with this toy, although the volume on it is much louder than I expected. This definitely makes up for me never getting the Kenner talking K.I.T.T. back in the 80s when I was a kid, I was so bummed about that for years but now feel like the wait for this was even more worthwhile. Definitely looking forward to the SPM and KARR versions in the near future! :-D

Congrats on your purchase my friend! I agree with you, its really an impressive toy of KITT. I like the loudness of the sound just the way it is. I thought it was too low on their DeLorean Time Machine, but for KITT, its pitch perfect! I love seeing the lighting effects once you push that gas cap! Syncs so well with the sound!

funny the sounds on the Delorean I have are clear as a bell and loud enough, but then again I have the Part II car from Entertainment Earth with the flip down wheels so i dunno if the other Deloreans had weaker less 'good' speaker? the more I see pics of it and a youtube review on it makes me want it less and less, so far my fave diamond select KITT is the minimates one :P.

My Delorean is the part II car from Entertainment Earth... It could be the battery. But can't be since i just got it. The KITT car is much louder though..

that may be your problem the batteries that come with the car are 3 double A generic batteries, I noticed that when I put a set of Duracell AA batteries it sounded louder and the lights were more vivid, here is a nice shot of my Delorean with all the lights lit up, GOD I love this car!.

My DST 1/15 KITT is using Energizer batteries, which is probably why its louder..hahaha.. I shall give it a try for my Delorean once I get the batteries...

well, I have to say the figure does look a little better than the ones shown near the prototype from I think a year ago, but I have to say the one that comes with the Kenner talking car looks far more like Dave than that one does, still not a bad figure for the size/scale and having a lot better articulation (the Kenner fig only had turning head, arms at the shoulders and legs at the hips).

No doubt, the Kenner figure was simple, yet a great toy to have alongside the KITT voice car. Plus that figure was closer to scale with the car. This one from Diamond Select has better articulation, but at 3 3/4 inch, its unfortunately out of scale with the 1/15 KITT.. Diamond Select going the Marvel Universe and GI Joe way as this is their first foray into 3 3/4 inch figure line. Still its really awesome to have the figure going with the car.. It definitely echoes that of the Kenner Voice Car... Looking forward to its release!
