Hi all,

I am in the process in making, reproducing the Famous 1982 Trans Am/Knight Rider Shifter knob!!

At first I was planning to just make a custom stem for the original shifter to fit 1983-1992 or even till 2002 Trans Ams, since they are all the same. The idea was a little tough, and now the price of the shifter knob is around $150, more or less, last couple of times I have looked. Plus to find an automatic shifter unit from a 1982 Trans Am or even from a Camaro is another $30-$40, and plus the whole process of changing the shifter, you have to remove the lower console and all that hassle!

I just want to know if there are people really interested in this so I can go ahead with this!! I will be charging $80 for a billet aluminum shifter knob with cap, custom stem, and powder coated with a slight texture coat!

Inside, the knob will have 2 teeth, one on each side for support to hold it in place from wobbling or turning. The bottom, has a little hole for a screw to hold the knob in place as well! You will have to make a small hole threw the shifter just on that side. The hole with screw on the bottom part of the knob will be facing forward, so it won't be visible! That screw will be holding the knob from coming off as well as keeping the stem from popping out!!

Tell me what you guys think!!!!

Thank you!!!

Billy

Hey :good:

Looks good so far...do you plan something special for it also, like LEDs on the Top to let Eagle/Firebird glow on top of the sifte...that was the Idea I had when I first saw this....

Actually I have that in mind as well!!! But for now, I want to see how many are interested in the idea! :D

Not just the Firebird emblem, but pontiac emblem, all 3 Knight emblems, Emblem seen on the steering wheel, the Knight foundation emblem in gold as seen on the Semi, and the Knight Rider 2000 emblem! And anything else!!

Here is an UPDATE

I just read that the 1982 shifter is a bit different in length and the 82' shifter stem snaps into the bottom mechanism. So I would have to see about getting the knob to work with the 82' shifter. But the later years 1983-2002 they will all fit!!

Have you tested any other shifters on your Stealth?? Wonder if one of these can fit on it.

The Knight Rider 2000 car was a Dodge Stealth and the Logo from KR2000 would be nice in my car...so that is why I thought about it
