K.I.T.T. Should be an American Car!!!! Having K.I.T.T. as a foreign car would be like ordering a Whopper and you get a Big Mac. It just ain't right!!!

I think for the feature film if iot ever gets made, they use a 2002 trans-am but just customise it so that it looks more futuristic and use some of KI3T's technology, such as nanotec and voice as well as manual controls and to create a perfect KITT. Or may be even get one of those those Trans-Am conversion kits for tme 2010 Camaro and do the same mods as i mentioned above. :kitt2:

I think making kitt a foreign car is like ordering a whopper and getting sushi instead. If you think thats bad you should see how far i shoved those chop sticks up his nose when i did it.

Irrelevant. KITT is known for being the most advanced system on wheels. And needs a car to match.

And in this critical respect, almost all American cars fail. Especially the muscle cars such as the Ford Mustang, which despite being made to look like the best in the 2008 series of Knight Rider, is in reality, very basic and limp, most models utilising a suspension system that predates the KT Event of 65,500,000 years ago. More importantly, despite a difference in horsepower of 299, a HORSE made it around a track faster than the Mustang car - as proven by Jezza.

And most of them fail to look the part as well, coming across as being little more than bricks. The Trans-Am KITT worked because it was sleek, agile, radiating performance and handling, as did the Nissan - then known as Datsun - 280Z which was also considered.

Here would be an example of the right kind of style for KITT: The Vauxhall Astra Twintop.

Image

While the performance and handling of this particular model leave a lot to be desired, it does have the right look. Sleek, agile appearance, making use of crisp, sharp lines that give it an aggressive edge without looking like a brick. Additionally, it grants you a great place to place a dual scanner - under the bar and between the 'V'.

Anyways, that would be my - admittantly rather large - two cents on this subject. Take it for what you will.

Personally, I loved the look of that Lamborghini, and would love to see that as KITT maybe in 10-20 years, but it is my understanding that KITT must be a current everyday car, that has been 'pimped'.
KITT needs to turn heads and make people say WOW, but also needs to not attract too much attention.

Both KI2T and KI3T were recognisable as Trans-Am or Mustang, but if you saw one in the street (assuming there was no TV series called Knight Rider) you would just think, "Wow, Impressive body kit".

KITT is futuristic inside, and only inside.

Hey Vincent; Lambos, Ferraris, and the like have such soft suspensions cause they were designed for the soft asses of Europeans. Firebird Trans Ams, Mustangs, etc. were built with 'antiquated' suspensions that was designed specificaly for our American hard asses

That is where you are wrong. European built cars, for the European market use a much firmer supension setup than is utilised in the US, to cope with the roads here, which often use a lot of twists and turns, especially in the UK. To try and claim that it is soft set here and firm in the the US tells me that you failed to do your research. It is a known fact that the supsension setup in Europe is generally firmer than in the US - with the exception of some high-end sports brands and customised vehicles.

Next to the actual casting of Michael Knight himself, KITT will be the most difficult to find a car to fit the role.

The Knight Rider team got extremely lucky when the Trans-am came along, almost as if it was destiney somehow, just at the right time the perfect car comes along.

Question is though, what if the Trans-am didnt come along what would have Glen Larson choose then?.

Although looking at the super car end of things there are some beautiful looking machines that would look the part but there are many logistical aspects to look at.

For starters the car has to be easy to aquire and able to afford multiple replicas for the duration of the film, the car has to be easily modified into KITT, the car has to perform, with the Tim Burton Batman while the Batmobile was stunning looking, the car was very limited to what it could actually do, by the time the car finally got up to speed they ran out of road, so appearance wise the car was amazing, on a more practical level the car lacked in areas, taking into consideration the space they had available to use to operate the car in.

Now with the Chris Nolan version - aka The Tumbler, they got everything and more, the car performed, it did everything that could have ever asked of the machine and it destroyed all expectations, but then this engineering marvel was completely hand made and every part hand built.

Essentially the new KITT will have to be agile, quick, sleek and be the next stage in technology.

The original KITT was agile and swift enough to do some really cool tight spot and alley way driving, yes largely thanks to an amazing stunt team who had the cars set-up for a specific stunt or style of driving, but the car itself plays a major role in being adaptable for for these conditions and the old girl did it effortless, so they need something as good as the original.

Although I liked the Mustang for the 08 version, I think they could have done so much more with it, whether they choose the mustang for the new one, or maybe do what they did with Batman and build a purpose made machine, then that eats into budget, The Tumbler Im sure wasnt cheap, worth every penny, but Nolan had a good budget to work with to allow for it to be made.

All comes down to what the budget will be for this movie, the more they have the better the toys.

Ultimately cars like the original KITT dont come around very often, but having said that every once and a while a car comes along that inspires and captivates us.

Tech wise just what could they do with KITT?.

Actually KITT was futuristic both in the inside AND THE OUTSIDE. The T/A was the most aerodynamic american production car then. And I don't believe that an american car is a must... I've already created a thread on this topic some time ago: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16457" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I liked both the lambo and the audi... In my thread you can see some other futuristic cars...

I already said it wouldn't be suitable for KITT, not because of the looks as you suggest, but because the performance, handling, and ride quality fall too far short of the mark. I used it as a style reference, not a full model suggestion.

At least someone understands where im comming from. The car could be good for mr beans new ride or a herbie remake. and to be honest i feel that the movie will flop if kitt had anything to do with the car above.

And as I keep saying. It's not the ideal car for KITT! I am using it only as a style reference! For the basic look of KITT. That is. Crisp, sharp lines, that offer an aggresive edge without looking like a brick.

A better example in terms of performance and handling would be this:

The Nissan GTR. Recently uprated, it has the looks, the performance, and the handling to qualify as a suitable car for KITT - after the appropriate changes in body and wheel colour of course! :P :P

I agree, that the Nissan GTR, would be an appropriate car for KITT.

If they were to re-make KITT, for another season on KR

There are some interesting challenges.
I do like the Audi A9, Put it this way the Germans love the Hoffs singing so they would back this to the hilt to get a German car as the new KITT.

KITT should be a unique car, not available to the mass market or to the super rich. Unlike the disastrous 2008 remake, the car of the future is not a Ford, with their dodgy keys, ejector gearboxes and crap build quality.

Also one car does all. No morphing in to vans 4x4s or other vehicles (to boost sales) the whole point is that it is a super car that combines all the attributes of other cars.

Lastly bring back William Daniels to voice KITT
