"Former "Baywatch" TV star David Hasselhoff pleaded no contest on Thursday to a charge of drunk driving and was ordered to attend an alcohol treatment program for six months.

Hasselhoff, 52, did not attend the court hearing and his lawyer entered the plea on his behalf. The actor was charged with driving under the influence after being stopped in the Los Angeles area in June.

Hasselhoff, who played a lifeguard in the international hit show "Baywatch," was also ordered to perform 200 hours of community service and given three years probation.

The actor has struggled for several years to control his drinking, taking part in a rehab program in 2002 after admitting he had hit "rock bottom."

I hope he recovers too. Looks like the movie will have to wait but it'll be worth it. Would like to see David healthy first.

I have a friend who went through similar problems and is doing well after rehab so there is lots of hope here. She had even worse than just drunk driving as she was a hard drug addict too. Her family and friends (including me) are all proud of her progress.

Recovery IS possible.

How awful it must be to be famous and have your every screw up broadcast across the world. Most people who have that sort of problem don't have to worry about what millions of people think of them because of it.

Hopefully he'll get the help he needs.

I wonder if these incidences of David's could be affecting the marketing of the new KR movie. Maybe studios don't want to be associated with him or the project.

I wonder if we'll see an unknown studio producing the film low budget or have the whole project bought out from under him and handled big budget style without David's input.

All in all I think the odds of this movies ever seeing the light of day are significantly slipping.

I think it will have virtually no impact on the movie whatsoever. Although this is a serious personal issue for David Hasselhoff, it's not the kind of "Hollywood scandal" that makes studios nervous.

On Friday, "Celebrity Justice" ran a 2 minute segment on Hasselhoff. Parts of it are a little overly dramatic with bold, tabloid-TV graphics, but what I do like about this piece is that they let Hasselhoff's attorney speak about David's perspective. He stresses that no one was hurt and how David was very cooperative and remorseful about the entire ordeal. There is a short Knight Rider clip.

It typical of big stars it seems to do this type of thing. Maybe the more cash you have to play with means you get careless occasionaly.

I wouldn't call it typical... they just get a lot more attention when they do stumble than your average Joe.
