Knight Rider Stained Glass Window

Well, for my second semester final in my glass art class I have to come up with a large stained glass window. I have always wanted to do a car, especially KI2T or KI3T. So...I asked Victor Kros if I could do his Knight Rider Festival Poster as a stained glass window. He agreed. So, this thread will show my progress on it. Please, comment and I hope you all like it!

This is where I got my inspiration. Thank you sooo much VK for letting me do this!!

Image

I have drawn up the details that I am going to do. I am going to add more detail in the sky, but for now this is what I have. This is only a picture of a 16 in x 14 in sketch I did. I plan to make it much, much bigger.

Okay, new BIG update!!!!!

The sunset is 99% done!!! Just gotta grind a few pieces down to make the line straight, but I'm gonna do that when I get closer to being finished.

Image

---------------------------------------------------------

And...I started Ki3t today.

Image

I only have one problem and I'll show you guys exactly what I mean tomorrow. The stripes on Ki3t...If I sandblast them, they turn out kinda lighter than what they should be. And if I do a different color glass...the black line between the stripes is gonna be harder than heck to do. And I may not get the right color glass. So...I'll show you what a sandblasted piece of black glass looks like tomorrow and then I will need some opinions! Please!!!

---------------------------------------------------------

I got some more glass too. Tell me what you think! :)

These are for the road pieces. Of course, its gonna be cut up so it will look different in a way.

Image
Image

And maybe...

Image

---------------------------------------------------------

This I was thinking of using as the desert in front of the mountains. It has the green/brown/black/gray in it like VK's poster.

Image

---------------------------------------------------------

This I was thinking of using for the windows. But I still have to get some.

Image

---------------------------------------------------------

And this I was thinking of using for the scanners. Again, I have to either buy some off a friend or buy a sheet from the store.

Image

If I can't get some of that...I was thinking of maybe using some of this. It's the same color as the red in the sunset. My camera made it brighter.

Image

But no matter what for the scanners, I was thinking of sandblasting the back just a bit on the sides of the scanners...and maybe painting some black on them, so that it would look as if the scanners are moving and not just one bright color.

---------------------------------------------------------

So, what do you all think? Please, tell me. I would love to know. :D I hope to have an update for you again soon!!!

Okay, as promised...here's what I was talking about. Tell me, would this be okay for the stripes?

---------------------------------------------------------

Oh!!! Got the mountains done!!!!

One more update!!! Got the desert done!! And some parts on Ki3t are ground down. It's hard to see but there is the spoiler, the driver's mirror, the driver's front fender, and most of the hood. I didn't get to finish the hood because I ran out of time today in class. But not to worry! It will get done tomorrow along with some more of Ki3t!!!

Image

And I noticed that some of these pictures are being cut off...So...I'll start posting the URL on here as well so you can see the entire thing.

Here's it going in order of update. I'm only going to do the ones that contain the design. So...

Okay, one final update for the week then I won't be able to update for a while. For one: I don't have my glass at home, so there's nothing I can do right now. And two: I'm heading out of town until Thursday. So...no glass that way either. But...I got this for yall!!! Hope you like it!! :D

More of Ki3t cut and ground down!! The passenger window is covered by black right now because the saw at school is down and I wasn't able to get it out. I technically could use a grinder...but then it would take me soooo long to grind all that down. So I decided to wait until the saw is back up and working.

Closer shot of Ki3t!

Okay, another update coming up!!!

Got some more of Ki3t done. The passenger window frame is cut out, the passenger mirror is done, and the side panels are practically done.

And then the bigger picture :).

What do you guys think so far? I have to get the saw work done sooner than expected...The saw at the school is getting old and breaking down. I guess it breaks a few times during every period!!! And the sad part? It costs over $300 for a new saw. So...I have to finish what I can up with it before it officially breaks down. Oh well, there isn't much left I don't think.

I'll have another update for you guys tomorrow or the next day!!!

Haven't updated in a while, but I figured that I should update maybe twice a week instead of almost everyday. But...I have got a lot done. :D

First off, I am almost done with all of the saw work. There were a lot more pieces than I anticipated. But that's okay, the saw hasn't completely broken down yet so I still have time.

Second, Ki2t is started! I was going to do the roof all in one piece, but I screwed up royally and decided that making it three pieces wouldn't be that bad. So, I did.

Third, I have decided that I am going to either sandblast or etch the stripes on Ki3t, the tires on Ki3t, the cobra on Ki3t, the tiny fog lights on the bottom grill on Ki3t, and the t-tops on Ki2t. Yes, there is a difference to sandblasting and etching. Sandblasting is just that, blasting the glass with sand. Etching is a paste-like substance that you brush onto the glass, but comes out different that it would being sandblasted. I don't know which I am going to do yet, but I will think of something.

Fourth, the road is cut!!! Yay!!! I thought that that was going to take forever but it really only took a few hours. No, it isn't perfect yet (ground down), but it is all cut out. The grinding is what is going to take forever. Oh well, gotta get it done.

Okay, picture time! :D

I've been coming back here for a while, and I really have an appreciation for you and your work. I'm currently doing some mosaic stuff, and it's very time consuming and temperamental; everything that comes out is based on how the glass reacts to you snipping at it and cutting it and grinding it down. Sometimes it almost gets frustrating because you waste glass because the cut was really jagged or whatever. Of course, I've only basically got a scoring tool, a breaking tool and nippers to work with, so that makes the work harder and a lot less accurate to say the least.

Your work on this is absolutely fantastic and I certainly hope those old tools last until this is completed.
