Does anyone Know?

Did they use a stocK mustang gt to build KITT? Did they star off with a gt500 and just add the KR wheels, hood and wing to it? 
When they were filming the pilot, the first Shelby GT500KR was not yet in full production. Shelby allowed them to borrow a KR hood to make a replica, which they used to modify a few stock Mustang GTs for the backdoor pilot. I assume they used the same cars, or modified them at least, for the series. None of the show cars were actual GT500KRs.
If you go to the "exclusives" section under "Knight Rider 2008" at the top of this page, you'll find video of the stunt car, and one of the KR staff explaining the special features (this one, called KR3, had special brakes and a stronger engine, plus a special stunt brake).
