Volo Museum's KITT

Post by Sue » Fri Sep 04, 2009 1:43 pm

I came across this article about the Volo Museum in Chicago. Does anyone know the story of their KITT? Is he a real screen used KITT or just a replica?

Well in the event that it is an actual screen-used car (which I doubt), it's full of refurbished parts. I Googled some pictures of it and can see the dashboard has a glossy finish from Mark's Custom Kits.

It could be the real thing, they get their Star Cars straight from George Barris or Universal studios. Non of their cars are replicas they are usually the real deal.

The car is indeed a Mark Custom "Replica", top to bottom.

Nothing about the car is or was screen used.

It is a replica Mark made from an 1983 Recaro Trans Am.

The Volo Museum is the same place "greeknight" got his Jack Sessums miniature model.

most of Volo's cars are replicas claiming to be real.

I go up to the museum all the time. I used to think all the cars were real however I'm starting to have my doubts now. By the way, in that article it states that the Mach % is from the movie Speed Racer, I can tell you from seeing it in person it's not, although I don't think the museum is trying to pass it off as that. I think the newspaper got it wrong. I'm wondering if it was a stunt car or something and they restored it using newer parts. The article does state they restore movie cars. They have documentaion on display. I really don't know.
