kitt bar under nose?

what is that bar you often see under kitt's front end (TOS) sometimes it's there other times not.

It's a camera mount.
They bolt camera frames onto the front of the car for some shots of Hoff driving and delivering dialogue.

I thought it was actually a tow bar so the crew could tow the car more easily during the cruising scenes.

it is actually a tow bar!they plug a "fork" on the holes of the tow bar and attached kitt with the camera car!i don't know why..but i like this bar so much that i install it on my own replica.

o really? I thought it was another feature of KITT. You see it being used in Junkyard Dog season 3 to push the tractor into the toxic waste pit.
But what you lot r saying is probably the real reason why it was installed.

The bar is not meant to be seen as a function of K.I.T.T.'s. It's supposed to be K.I.T.T.'s Molecular Bonded Shell that allows him to ram the forklift into the acid pit. The bar is not there in any other Season 3 or 4 episodes. It's just something we can notice twenty years later thanks to the DVDs.

this bar was always noticable even 20 years ago and the real reason is for towing kitt for the filming needs!they connect via this bar...kitt to the camera truck...so as you can see in the knight rider bloopers...hasselhoff was in kitt and kitt was rolling......!specially in the blooper reel videos....when hasselhoff do the marking inside the car...you can hear the engine sound of the tow camera truck!!also...in one scene..hasselhoff says..."i am driving with my eyes closed!!".....it is beacause kitt was towed....he is not driving!!all that stuff was made via the tow bar under kitt's nose!
