Fast & Furious Earns $71 million this weekend

Fast & Furious ran away with the box office victory this weekend, earning something like $71million and (I think) setting an all-time record for April opening weekends. While acknowledging that I am desperate and will try to attach significance to anything to argue for Season 2, doesn't this at least say to NBC Universal (who put out this movie) that there is a serious market for an exciting stunt driven action packed car-centric drama. Particularly one with a built-in following and a marketable name? And ESPECIALLY if it is agressively promoted and marketed to a targeted audience. Just saying........

My hope is that F&F's success this weekend does NOT lead to more T&A, ricer cars, and stupid episode plots in KR's Season Two.

Journey to the End of Night wasn't THAT bad. And as bad as it is to say, at this point I'll forgive a one or two bad plots to have the other twenty episodes in a full Season Two. And I'm certainly not going to complain about any gratuitous T&A

I loved the first and third one. Hated the second. And just because a film has a certain actor in it doesn't make it good.

I agree, but the whole mix of actors from the First movie, specialy Vin Disel, he is like the manager of the movie, you know? but any way, I agree about the First and Third. Second felt like it doenst belong very much Image :kitt:

This movie is ok, everything felt a bit rushed. The car racing & stunts fell short compared to the previous films. The cars were plain & none that stood out or made a mark in it like the Orange Supra, Red Evo etc, did before this. Its just more of the old revenge/go undercover to bring down the drug lord type movie.

Id rank this film 3rd in the FnF movies behind the 1st & TD. 2F2F doesnt exist in my mind.

I haven't seen it yet but am not thrilled that Gary has made a better run with F&F movies than his TV series. The reason F&F did so well is that the highest movie watching denomination is teenagers and there wasn't much competition. Unfortunately most teenage males are more fans of fast cars than talking cars :(.

You know, there wasn't any need for a double post, you still had plenty of time to edit your first one. ;) But anyway, Gary hasn't had anything to do with the franchise since the second one and he only came up with the story for it IIRC.

Your wrong sir.... Once an audience grabs ahold of a certain actor in a role then that is who they want to see. Vin was a bad ass in the first one and this one... People diden't care about the franchise without him. It shows in the box office sales.

Same can be said for Knight rider. The Hoff is michael Knight... that's who the fans accept with open arms. Add the hoff in season 2 and I guarentee ratings would go up. That's just how it is.

Vin Diesel sucks, I also read that the new movie has odd sexual content in it. Needless to say I'm not seeing that bs. The first one was cool the second was dogcrap and the third was cool too. Put it to rest already nobody cares about the fast and furious franchise anymore.

I can honestly say I enjoyed 2 Fast 2 Furious...my favorite cars were the Evo7 and Skyline...I was thinking of getting an Evo eventually but never got around to it.

Also I hear on the DVD of Fast and Furious is goinga be a special 20 minute prequal to the movie, also dont forget that this movie is the prequal to Tokyo Drift...alot people at my theater didnt understand that.

I wasn't talking about appeal though but how good the actual film is from an entertaining standpoint.

However, for the record, 2F2F had a 50 mill opening weekend compared to the first film's 40 mill opening. I don't think Vin is the be all and end all of the franchise, Walker is just as big which is probably the reason why TD had the least opening weekend as it featured neither actor.

I believe the opening weekend sales are the biggest telling factor as sales soon decline as weeks go by anyway.

I will try and forgive you.

Now, to be on topic, I've never been interested in the F&F franchise at all. I kind of resent it for the stupidity it spawned/inspired with street racing idiots.

I can think of seventy-one million reasons you might be wrong.

In the interest of full disclosue, I've never seen F&F 2, 3, or 4, and only about half of the original. My initial point was just about what this might tell Universal about the viability of KR.

I say go see it,especially if your into car movies and such, the family well it depends on what theyre into.

Ah yes I remember the prequel to 2f2f,I loved how he got the Skyline and tuned it out.

Ah the red Evo,tuned by Rhys Millan, professional drifter himself...remember tho this last move was the prequel to Tokyo Drift.

I know at Bestbuy they had special 3 pack where you can get all 3 of the movies, looked good to me...wonder if they may do a 4 pack when this FNF comes to DVD

It's not a family-friendly movie given the level of violence and other content but you should go see it yourself if you like what you see in the trailers.
