I think if Charles is not really dead, KITT would have known it and would have told Sarah so.
So for me, Charles is dead... and I'm really sad... :(

The Plane went down and Charles survived. Michael Snr and RealKITT raced to the scene and saved him.
They told him that Alex was dodgy as hell and was mates with a dodgy CIA bloke who just happened to agent Rivais dad. Charles goes into hiding and stays at the FLAG Mansion with Michael.
Alex Torres gets outed after next week and soon the SCC is closed.
Sarah reopens FLAG.
In the season final The CIA bloke is revealed to be the final mole.
Michaels comes forth to help his son take down the bad guy but KARR gets them pinned down.
Charles emerges from hiding and does something to help KITT take down KARR.
This last part is why there was some secrecy on set in the last episode.

Well, it could work :-)

Wow. I was ready to say goodbye to this show a few episodes back. However, this episode was the absolute best yet. Glad I hung in there and yet, why couldn't we get this from the beginning?!

Aside from a great paced episode, they answered some "how does that work?" questions. Getting to see how KI3T lifts off for Turbo Boost was great. You could see the force of the rockets carry the car up. Not like the first episode where he floats up over everyone. They finally did Turbo Boost proud! Good CG! Loved the license plate switch too. Now we know why KI3T's plate are different each episode.

Breaking up the cast into their own story lines actually really helped build some much needed character development. Keep this trend up. I even thought the introduction of Hank, was just pointless episode filler. How wrong I was. Nice touch... Get off your ass Lisa and Katie!

Mike using the gun was exactly what his character needed. We're finally seeing Mike's Military skills and instinct come through without some stupid "I learned this from XBox" quip. Well done. It's not old school Hoff, but it's nice to know he graduated from Bay Side High.

Plus leaving Sarah with the trigger was perfect! I don't care what anyone says. It get's her back for all those times of spying on Mike and bringing the unneeded emotion into the job at hand. It was as if Mike was saying, "If you're going to tag along, you might as well be of some use." She had it coming.

To me, Sarah is still the weakest character on the show. We all get that she's a rocket scientist who covers up her insecurities with passive aggressive taunts. Get over it. We're tired of it. Bring back the Jane Bond character. She had more personality in one episode than Sarah has had all season.

Anyway, getting back on track. I was really ready to see the show axed. But after seeing this episode, it's renewed my interested. I wish this kind of writing and directing could've happened sooner and if it keeps up. I hope we see a season two. Well done! NBC, don't give up on them yet. If they can deliver more episodes like this, you're in for a good series.

P.S. My how KARR's voice has become so clear since the 80's. He must have some Autobot upgrades in his voice box.

You know - if Knight Rider survives to a second season, I think it will be due to two things:

1. Peter Cullen
2. Transformers fans

Unlike the original KR where Peter Cullen was unknown, in 2008/2009, Peter Cullen is much more known for being Optimus Prime, especially due to the recent movie. If the Transformers movie hadn't been made recently, then Peter Cullen may be unknown except to old G's who knew him from the old KR and Transformers cartoons.

I have a feeling that Transformers fans (old and new) may tune in because they heard Peter Cullen has a role in Knight Rider. They may not understand who or what KARR is, or the history. But with Youtube and a lot of sites posting previews, seeing KARR as this large robot may pique their interest.

The Tranformers fans may get disappointed that KARR gets destroyed (presumably) at the end of next week's episode. But hopefully, a transforming KITT will keep them interested. Next week would be a good time to show off KITT's features.

There might be a nice rating boost next week. If anyone knows Transformers fan, it would be a good week to have them tune in.

wow, so like. i haven't been here in a like a year or two, and it's amazing. i was watching some behind the scenes videos and they talked about knight rider online, and thought i'd check it out again. i usually post at the knightfoundation.net boards, but there isn't much traffic for 2008 discussion.

i nitpick a lot, so be warned. also, my main hatred is their obvious non-use of car mounts. this is what i posted over there:

so it was an okay episode. the break they took following them trying to fly over the overpass i found myself yelling at the tv, "just get into KITT! you'd obviously be safer there rather then in your seats."

police KITT = stupid. but at least they're toning down the random transformations. and KITT *is* becoming more sarcastic. which i like. i just hope they don't go too far with it.

instead of paying attention to the show i found myself paying attention to the fact that sarah's hand positioning on the bomb trigger was quite different each shot. first one, her hand is on the top, second one, her hand is in the middle. it goes between these two positions when they switch cameras. you'd think they'd keep her hand in the same position between takes. normally it wouldn't be a big issue, but when it differs that much, it's noticeable..

i thought revai was going to die this episode too.. well, at least they didn't kill her off, that'd be a little hokey, with two main people dying in one episode. she's like, one of the better actors on the show so it's too bad that she's leaving.

is stealth attack mode just like regular attack mode without headlights? or is it like 80sKITT's silent mode? it was ehhh.

you know what? I just noticed something. 80sMichael didn't use guns. well, he used them in some episodes, but didn't pull a "i'm gonna go in and kill everyone i see" type thing.. but i dont really see a way for mike to accomplish what he did without goin around, killing people, in the little time he had. though, i think KITT was just letting him know where they were so mike himself, wouldn't get hurt, moreso then helping him kill people, even though mike was going to kill them anyway.

but yeah, rather short and quick way to kill off graiman. reminded me of how they killed off mitch from baywatch. just sort of a, "hey so we're redoing the show.. and we don't want you there anymore.. so how about we show you at your last few seconds of life and pretend you died in a firey plane crash." like they did with mitch, where they showed him at his last few seconds of life, and then had a boat blow up and just pretended he died, without any bodies or searches or anything.

we'll see what happens next week, i suppose.

oh, and their fake driving looks more realistic, i guess. there seemed to be more shots of them actually out on the road and it doesnt look as fake this episode. though, it still has it's fakeness.

Again with the digs at those who disagree with you as if those of us that are against the hero(es) killing as if we're ignorant fools because you assume none of us have any connection to the military or law enforcement, so we for some reason can't comprehend it, trust me we all do. There's a big difference between reality and fantasy where the writers are in control of what happens and how things play out and real life where one doesn't have that luxury and has to make split second, life or death choices.

On the other hand, I really don't have too much of a problem with Mike shooting/killing the bad guys (better him than KITT) though he shouldn't have seemed so upbeat about it. Andron could've certainly been a bit more creative in how they were taken out and I'm disappointed in Stevens being taken out so quickly at the end, I would have preferred he live as he could have made a potentially good returning villain later on down the line if the show makes it past season one.. Actually, seeing as Mike is supposed to be a former Army Ranger and now a government operative (for at least another episode anyway) it would make more sense for him to shoot to kill, plus they don't have enough time for Mike to be sneaking around since they basically resolve every episode in the last five minutes.. In some ways how he was written in I Wanna Rock & Roll All Knight was basically the opposite of this episode, which is pretty much a good thing. I still draw the line at KITT intentionally killing though.

Graiman's death was rather weak and aside from the "red light of doom" we didn't even get to see it. The scenario, was rather stupid as well, but when I watch it again I'll see if there was something I missed (I'm sure there was since I was distracted by the chat room and other things) and if the plane would have crashed in a populated area if he and the captain would have abandoned ship instead of going down with it.

The last two episodes now have been a big improvement over the previous nine, sucks that they couldn't have been as good from the start, still not at all perfect but certainly better, even if certain bitter reviewers and critics who just love to whine will continue to damn this show's existence *COUGHIGNCOUGHCOUGHAUTOBLOGDOUCHEBAGSCOUGH*. HOPEFULLY the show does make it to a second season (though let's get real, the odds aren't that good right now) and it can continue to improve. Hopefully NBC will stop being stupid also but I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon. How they promote the show for the next week is going to be extremely telling. It's also going to be interesting what the ratings are for this episode due to the competition it faced. IMO, anything less than last week is going to be disappointing, even with the AI juggernaut as an excuse.

Wow wow wow. Last week's episode was the best of the series and it was quickly surpassed. If this level of quality holds up, this show will no longer be a guilty pleasure. It was great from beginning to end, and not even cheesy. I'm willing to put up with cheesy for KR, but the police lights were the only thing that came close, but considering KITT can turn into a cop car, the lights shouldn't be hard.

You know the bitching I've done this entire series about the godawful chase sequences? RECTIFIED. THAT is what a chase sequence should be. Oh, and by the way, who stuck a gun to Andron's head and made him write a Turbo Boost into one of his episodes? :) Also...what was stealth about Stealth Attack Mode except that all the lights were turned off?

But Zoe was realistic, the show had ACTUAL humor, not just sexual angst, great acting on all fronts. And Admiral Chegwidden from JAG?! I'm so glad to see him, I haven't seen him sine he left JAG, I also really enjoyed his character...its a shame they killed him off. I love KITT's warnings to Mike. To the enemy he must look like a god, lol. The "One Man" reference was appreciated, but its impact was lessened in that the one man wasn't able to do it on his own. (Not that there was any other way out of that particular situation).

And as for Charles, I still think killing him off is a dumb idea. That said, it was very well done, and as was stated, KITT's line was very emotional. I am glad they didn't show the plane blow up because it just would've been CGI and probably wouldn't have looked very good. Besides, not showing his death allows them to bring him back if they need to. (He already escaped death once 8))

Very well done. Looking at the past three episodes, there's no question they are getting it RIGHT and it looks like there's more to come. Well, six more episodes, anyway. I don't like the fact they killed off Charles, but if the show does make it to a second season, it's one of those cases where you'll almost expect him to make a guest appearance shock return. Shame Hank's also gone...

PS. KARR sounds more like the animated Optimus Prime than the recent movie Optimus Prime.

From the moment they arrive at the plant, Mike has a grim face on and becomes very "matter of fact" and doesn't crack even a grin. He shoots several bad guys, jaw set each time, eyes focused and intense. The dialogue before he enters the building:

KITT: "Michael, these men are armed and very dangerous. Are you still having fun?"
MIKE: "This part I don't like so much."

I fail to see how that is him being "upbeat". Sounds to me like he was determined to do what needed to be done, but wasn't happy about it.

I enjoyed this series of episodes a lot.

Things I enjoyed

I have seen a mixed bunch of reviews for this, but I really enjoyed the police lights/siren. NOW, that is not to say that I would want to see this on every single episode, but I think it has a time and place, and this was definitely one of them.

I really enjoyed the banter back and forth between KITT and Mike. That relationship is really starting to develop, and I like it.

I enjoyed Mike's sarcasm. I suppose it could be that I am very much the same way.

Interesting writing decisions

Someone mentioned that they thought it was ironic that when Mike and Sarah were told to get strapped in and assume crash position that they just wouldn't get into KITT, I agreed and actually thought the same thing when it occurred.

Someone also mentioned how they didn't take advantage of using the OBVIOUS line "one man can make a difference". I thought for SURE that he was going to say it since it was a perfect opportunity. I was actually smiling and lip syncing it to myself because I thought FOR SURE he was going to say it. I suppose it is possible that they chose not to use it since one man COULDN'T make a difference.

I didn't like that Hank was introduced last episode and gone this one :( ... I did like how he redeemed himself though.

Things I didn't like

I know that there are a LOT of different opinions as to supporting characters, but I thought of all of them, Gramin I thought was the last one that needed to go. My two choices would be Torres and Ravi. Back to the traditional Knight Rider, they don't fit in. In my mind, Charles would be like a technical Devon, and Sarah would be kinda like Bonnie. I don't like how Torres orders Mike around CONSTANTLY. As far as Zoe and Billy I don't mind them at all.

I suppose this could be just an opening for a future episode, but that light that lit up in the plane meant nothing. There was no labeling by it or nothing. Very odd. The pilot seemed to know what it was right away when he said "sorry doc". I almost wonder if it was a bomb or something.

Now that I have watched it on YouTube, I think that was KARR you were talking about.

I watched it again myself. It is VERY hard to tell. I have noticed in the course of watching K.I.T.T.'s scanner, that under certain conditions, it takes on a bit of an orange or yellow tint. It could be that both of those cars are K.I.T.T. I mean, why even show KARR in car form if they've already told us he's going to be in robot form. I would think that if they were going to have him be in car form, leave it a surprise that he can go into robot form (yes, I know they've already shown us the blue prints of him transforming), it would just build up some suspense that way.

I don't know, just my two cents.

I don't know...I think it's more like Billy told Kitt what happened, and Kitt repeated it to Mike. So it's possible that Billy spoke to soon. Or Graimen wanted it to look like he died? I dun know. -shrug- Where's that stupid vitals check thing Ki2t had! lol.

Watched it this morning, absolutely crackin' episode! despite the distraction of my little girl whining cause cartoons were'nt on, I did try explaining to her that its only fair to let me, seeing as she subjects me to Fifi & the Flowertots and Milky & Shakey most early mornings, that said shes only 1 so I guess it fell on deaf ears :D

Must re-watch it tonight minus distractions, heck I might even boot my GF out of the living room too :)

I really enjoyed last nights episode. The show is getting so much better. The acting, writing and directing have improved. I enjoyed the turbo boost and the CHIP chasing KITT. Knight Rider is a show to get excited about. I really hope the show doesn't get cancelled now. It was really well done.

AWESOME! That would suffice in this post, the episode was AWESOME! Heck... i would be tempted to call these kind of episodes "epicsodes". This was not just a good KR08 epicsode... but it was a great KR epicsode in general! I swear I am going to merge last weeks ep and this weeks ep to make it a feature length "funtime awesomeness experience"!

Carrie, did... good? I mean yes sounds harsh, but she showed that the girl does have feelings (finally). KI3T was perfect, he was really doing some neat things and his conversations were great with Mike! Also... I love the father comment, it did well my eyes too... no joke.

I could go on and on to say how good the ep was, but it would end up being a novel here... it was great, nuff said!

Oww one more thing! Mike killing the bad guys= justice! They would kill him... so he kills them! Just great! Really well done too!

Final note, 9 out of 10!!! Freaking Ace!

:karr:
Absolutely stunning episode, we really have seen a run of three great shows, with the pace and direction nothing like some of the earlier stuff we saw before. This show is really going places and I am really downbeat at the fact that the run has been cut from 22 to 17. It is strange to think they green lighted nine extra shows when we were seeing Knight Rider light, and now we are seeing the real thing, which they would have known about at the time, they pull the last five shows.
This is quality and while I am sad to see the back of Graiman, the fact that the door has been left ajar for a return is positive. I must agree it would have been wonderful to see him interact with KARR in a similar fashion to the way Devon did in TOS. Graiman knew about the original KARR, Mike's involvement in it and what Torres role was (he told Torres in an earlier episode that Mike would kill him if he knew the truth), so not having Graiman at hand to explain the whole thing sucks.
I liked the turbo boost, but agree a whosh sound would be brilliant. Thought they would say the 'One man can make a difference line' but not overly disappointed they didn't. They are paying homage to TOS all through KR 2008, and the subtlety of it appeals, as they are talking the language of us real fans and not trying to hit us over the head with a lump hammer with the obviousness of their intentions.
Bring on next week!

Hell of a finish to an episode I was not even expecting to be a two-parter.

The villain was definitely a worthy scumball who sure made his mark. This might sound weird but I think Justin seems to do really well with (for lack of a better term) hero dialog and that's in evidence during his exchanges with this guy.

I think there is something up with Graiman's death. Offhand I'm thinking either he isn't dead or that his death was rigged and Torres may have something to do with it. Rivai being written out as having an injury that prevents her from ever doing her job again was sad. Even though I've never been a big fan of the character and have advocated cutting the cast down I still felt for the character in those scenes. I felt much the same when Tasha Yar was killed in Trek. It was that kind of vibe. Where you don't like the character and you know it's better for the show but you still feel for them and the other characters in that moment anyway.

I can't help but feel like Torres or somebody above Torres has something to do with wanting to keep Rivai from coming back. There seems to be a lot of little hints that there is something going on with Torres, Graiman, and Rivai that the others are not privy to at all and this episode I can't help but feel like Rivai's injury and Graiman's apparent death are all part of that somehow. I think Rivai's dad knows something to.

"Sarah, our father is dead." I felt that one. Actually, that was kind of perfect because it bookends the thing with Hank from part 1. Because while the scenes with Hank might come off as wacky filler they establish that the AI's Graiman creates have an awareness that he made them and to some degree at least interact and react to him like a child to a parent. Also didn't the original KARR have a bit of a daddy complex with Wilton Knight? They really need to clarify a bit more on where Wilton's contributions to the development of KITT stop and Graiman's begin. This is also important with KARR. Where does it go from being the failed AI for first car into being a damn tank-bot?

On the subject of Mike killing, he has a line of dialog with KITT where says this is the part he doesn't like so much. But I can see why people may be confused because he has another line of dialog where he says he likes the job because he "gets to shoot badguys". I would say that Mike's approach to a fight is going to be different from the original Michael but I don't think it means that killing is what he is talking about when he refers to the "fun part". I think its just that his overall approach and fighting style are a bit more brutal than his Dad's more John Wayne fisticuffs style. (Not that there is anything wrong with either) I'm ok with that because Mike is basically mortal and it'll work for me as long as he is shown to still be someone with compassion and really willing to find a better way when there is one to be had. My only problem on that issue actually comes from a previous episode where KITT asks Mike if he wants to use the lethal or non-lethal darts. Why is a car with an AI programmed to value life even have lethal darts in it to begin with let alone feel compelled to use them?

Anyways, solid two-parter and I'm looking forward to the next episode.

Kitt's comebacks were great and his words to Sarah had me in tears: "Sarah, our father is dead." Until that moment, it never occured to me that Kitt thought of Charles as his father and thinks of Sarah as his sister. His family... oh no, tears again... If you look close it seems to me that even Kitt's scanner lights were going a little slower, showing his grief as well. I'm glad it was Mike and Kitt that told her. It made the scene that more poignant.

My favorite lines:

Kitt to Mike in the chemical plant: "Subtle" as Mike goes into the bomb room.

After Sarah asked Kitt what he meant by the landing gear being non-operational: "To put it technical terms, It's gone."

One thing I noticed is how Carrie's father emphasised his disillutionment with the government. You could almost see the wheels of thought turning in Zoe's head as she heard this.

It's too bad they had to blow up Hank too. I was really beginning to like him. Did anyone notice the high five he gave Sarah?

I loved the teaser for next week too. So far, the reboot is turning out the way I was hoping.

I could sort of see the little hamster spinning on his wheel in Zoe's head.. (Sorry, couldn't resist.) :D I'm going to go ahead and say something that may not be politically ccorrect, but it might have made more sense for Zoe to be there if she had secretly been Carrie's girlfreind or something. I know they had to tone down the lesbian stuff for the show, but I thought they might make a good couple. And oh look, Zoe suddenly devloped the "Sarah syndrome" where she revealos a hidden talent we didn't know she had before. Did she study to be an EMT on the side when she was learning six different languages?
Loved the chase sequence at the beginning, and i think I did hear a little whooosh when KI3T took off. Yeah, the angle was all wrong, but i still liked it.Still, I know they actually jump the car- why they can't just do that instead of the CGI stuff.
Okay- another thing I've noticed all season long is how everybody is coming down on the government- "You don't know who you're working for," Mike's past in Iraq, all the bad guys who are terrorist motivated- what are the producers trying to tell us? And Steven's motivation last night was a real head scratcher. He builds a weapon to end all wars, but the government passes on it, so he stes out to prove a point by blowing up Phoenix? And why are the writers always dumping on Phoenix, anyway? I know Mesa's the most boring city and all, but sheesh! What'd we ever do to you?
Frankly, it doesn't bother me that Mike uses lethal force. It bothers me that it's contradictory to Ki3T's primary function to preserve human life, but he seems okay with it. Maybe he's learning TOO well. I'm glad he killed the bad guy, because I really DON'T want to see this guy again. the villains on this show and their motivations have really bugged me this season. I think I'll be glad when we get away from this spy stuff, and into more normal adventures, because the villains will be more predictable, if nothing else.
When Carrie recieved her prognosis, I was kind of hoping she could take over as head of FLAG,- I mean, for the amount of action she saw on this show, i don't think it qould really be too much of a stratch for her.
Not thrilled with the way Graiman was written off- don't know why he stayed on the plane- Too bad the pilot bought it also- I kinfd of liked him. Sarah's reaction when she got the news was (sigh) bad acting at it's finest. On the other hand, I really liked Val Kilmer's performance in this one; He really made KI3T come alive for me. Looking forward to next week- but they have a lot of gorund to cover, and only an hour to do it in.
KITT: I walked right into that one, didn't I?
Michael: More like Turbo Boosted.

I'm glad that this time around, I was able to catch this episode immediately after I got off of work (because this time I remebered to record it.).This was an enjoyable episode, however, my only complaint was the way Dr. Graiman died, I thought honestly like everyone else that he was going to be killed by "K.AR.R." but instead he and the pilot went down in a blaze of glory. There could have been a better way, he could have gone out, but in my opinion, they should have kept him because his character is the only bridge to the past of Knight Rider. Well Rivai is injured internally, Graiman died in a plane crash and now it's Torres that's left...... This next episode is going to be interesting.

tamatt27 wrote:I do wonder if KARR is, somehow, responsible for that light and the explosion. It would seem fitting that Charles would die flying the plane to KARR, to try and stop him or something.

I think it's far simpler than that: Alex Torres arranged Charles Graiman's death.
We know from next episode's preview that Torres's objective at this point is KARR's reactivation. We also can infer from Knight of the Living Dead that Charles would almost certainly disagree and might even try to stop him.
Ergo, Charles was an obstacle that had to be eliminated.
If Charles bailed, he had a good chance of survival. BUT, if the plane was sabotaged and the pilot was under orders to ensure Graiman died, he wasn't about to let him bail out. So he insisted on setting the plane down, allowed his copilot to jump, and set down the sabotaged plane, which exploded, with Charles and the pilot onboard.

Now onto the episodes:

CONS:
-Charles Graiman is dead. Which sucks, because he was my favorite human character.
-Perfectly missed opportunity to place in the famous tagline from the old series, missed. It still works, but had he said it, it would've been awesome.

PROS:
-The car chase and Turbo Boost.
Michael kicking the bad guys' asses with a good old-fashioned 9mm. Nice to see that, and while I'm a bit iffy about KITT's participation, I suppose there's a loophole: KITT's not the one killing them, so technically what he's doing is not against his programming.
-"Sarah...our father is dead." most moving line in at least KR08's history. *?$#, I was even crying.

WTFs?
-Sarah's line when Mike shot that first guy. See Zoe I can picture saying something like that. With Sarah, it was a bit weird, at least to me.
-As I pointed out in the chat, the two fighters launched to intercept are identified in dialog as F-15 Eagles. However, from a few minor but distinct details, I noticed that the aircraft shown on the display screen are F-14 Tomcats.

OVERALL:
AWESOME episode. I loved it, and I can hardly wait for next week.

First time poster here...

The last 3 episodes have been really great; last night's in particular. While I think Graiman would have been a great Devon Miles character, I understand the need to let him go. I do like how they did not show the death scene as it leaves the door open for a cameo later. However, I don't recall a good reason for him to stay on the plane.

Hank probably regretted his tantrum-induced promotion.

I understand the need for CG and, especially after the post by the VFX guy, understand that there isn't enough time for movie quality effects. I was happy with the turbo boost last night. I was confused by the dirt piling up the way it did in front of the car. I thought they would have used that as the jump point. Regardless, the takeoff was good and the landing was great.

I see Stealth Attack mode as analogous to silent mode. Same car, no sound effects.

I didnt mind Carrie's situation. The character didn't add to the show in my opinion. I won't miss it.

I loved the line about the father being dead. And I'm very happy they did not utter the "one man can make a difference" phrase as that would have been cheesy imo.

I'm looking forward to more great episodes.
