Joe Huth wrote:Well, I found Rita's apartment building from "Goliath", but it looks nothing like it did back in 1983.

You can see in the screenshots below that the building is the Casino Center Apartments, phone number 384-3134, and the address number is 414:

Well, the name of the apartment building and the phone number are still the same, but here's what it looks like today:

414 South 1st St
Las Vegas, NV

In early Dec. I went to Vegas with my wife and had a chance to check out this location.

If you watch the driving scenes right before Michael pulled over to the curb, you can see '4 QUEENS' in the background, which is located at Fremont St and S Casino Center Blvd. Since the scenes were continuous, I thought the correct address would be:

414 S Casino Center Blvd, Las Vegas, NV

If you search the above address on Google Maps, the location has become
"Clark County Detention Center" today:

I also took a picture near: 410 South 1st St
(Golden Nugget Hotel is located at 1st St and Fremont St)

Coming soon, more field trip photos of KR locations in Vegas!

The location of "The House of the Rising Sun" was located at the west side corner of Via Princessa and Sierra Highway. Like the "Lowell Industries" building, it no longer exists. The business and property was bought by a local developer who shut it down and bulldozed the building and everything else; later to put up a stripmall.

Comtron Building location to be unveiled next year ;)

Inspired by Joe's approach, I checked the satellite image (available only after 1994)
at " Via Princessa and Sierra Highway", it's already gone in 1994!

Hmm...judging by your post, I'm guessing you found the Comtron building...can't wait to hear about its location. Can you answer us this...is the building still standing today?

I posted this information somewhere earlier in this thread, but I don't know that we ever really confirmed for sure if this was the location. I got word that the place was called Cal Islands, but there is very little to be found anywhere online about the place.

Seriously though. Where is the Comtron building?! :?

Handzus' Stupid Fro: I didn’t see your post in this long book, but finally found it. One of the pictures you posted has David sitting in the car talking to KITT and an arrow pointing to a house in the background. It is the same townhouse located adjacent to the bottom of the triangle shaped property.

The business changed owners in the late 1980’s. When the new business owners later started having adult entertainment, the property owners cancelled their lease and tore it all down. The property grade level was also raised.

Joe: I didn’t need to find the location, just had to remember it. 8)

The Comtron building location will be revealed in a little game by giving out clues as to it’s location. Sorry, I won’t say if it does or does not still exist. Don’t want to spoil the game

See that's what I thought, but when I looked at the homes around the site, they didn't really seem to be a prefect match. Do we even know if the place was actually called House of the Rising Sun, Cal Islands, etc.?

Joe,

I took a photo at the above location. It seems 'Lady Luck' is under renovation or something. Luckily, I got a chance to visit this location before it changes! After all, it's about 27 years after the scene was filmed here.

Hey guys,

I have confirmed the House of the Rising Sun location. I found someone who went there back in the day! She was very gracious to answer my questions. I sent her a screenshot from the Pilot and here is her response:

-------------------------------------
Hi Joe,

When I first looked at the photo, it didn't quite look like Cal Islands to me. I don't remember the pointy roof. I forwarded this to my brother, my mom and my dad. The concensus is that it is Cal Islands. Apparently, before it was Cal Islands, it was a different restaurant. My brother told me that years later, the owners of Cal Islands remodeled it to the Cal Islands that I'm familiar with. I remember a big wooden wheel in the front of the restaurant. They have since built a street and a mini-mall where that restaurant was. Hope that helps.

At this point, I believe this mystery is CONFIRMED!

found more info:

Someone on facebook recalled his memory of several places in Canyon Country, and mentioned:
"cal islands restaurant (the via princessa/14 fwy onramp locates that space)"

another post:
"how about how excited we got to see the CHIPs episodes filmed on sierra hwy (pre-via princessa) that showed CAL ISLANDS!"

You can find CHiPs (short clips) here:

got to check it out !

Good news and bad news.

Bad news first.

I think we can pretty much rule out the House of the Rising Sun being Cal Islands. This does not mean, however, that the House of the Rising Sun didn't sit at Sierra and Via Princessa - it just means it never went by the name "Cal Islands."

I posted some pics of the place at SCVTalk (Santa Clarita residents and who I consider well-versed in Canyon Country) and Facebooking ("You know you're old school SCV..." group) I was able to get these nuggets of info.
Never seen or heard of anything like this in the Canyon Country area.
was only there once but it does ring the right bells, especially the inside lounge pic.
It looks like some place I've passed in the valley -- Studio City or Sherman Oaks area.
Speaking in reference to the actual Cal Islands...
The original site would be across from Stater Bros and slightly south by about 50 yards. It was set back from the road for parking.

You could see the lights of Canyon Country and gaze down the Santa Clara River from your table since that side was all windows and patio.
Definitely not Cal Islands.
My friend, there is no doubt; this is not Cal Islands. I ate at CI quite often, and I can tell you that the entry way in your picture is not CI. Good luck finding the actual location.
This guy says he actually worked there in '83.
Sorry , but that is not it. I dont think I have any pics, but I will look around when I get a chance.

So that's the bad news. The good news is I think we can rule out "Cal Islands" as a name at this point and pursue different leads. This of course also means that the House of the Rising Sun may never have been in Santa Clarita to begin with.

Don't know if this one has been brought up before. I was watching HALLOWEEN KNIGHT tonight and at the end of the episode when Michael is chasing the bad guy, they go into a Drive-in Theatre. I noticed the name of the Drive-in, Sepulveda Drive-In Theatre. I thought what the heck, I'll try a web search. VIOLA!

Here are screen caps from the episode.

We've been searching for the Comtron building for years! Just give us the location, already!

If you insist on this little game, then please at least give us your first clue. I'm not going to ask questions... I'm hoping you'll give us enough to try and find it ourselves, assuming that it's still standing.

By the way, I'm very glad to see that this thread is still alive and well.

It seems that very few people have been posting on the KR08 locations thread ("Filming Locations: the Bridge"). There was some discussion about the SSC in relation to the Tustin Marine airfield, which is correct, but kind of obvious. But very little else by way of discussion. The best thing about that thread is that most of those locations were filmed only a few years ago, and we can still find and preserve them as they were.

Imagine being able to do that when TOS was around!

Been awhile, but I have another location for you guys...Circus Major from "Circus Knights".

I was only able to find this by sheer luck...as I was looking over some call sheets from "Knight of the Chameleon", I noticed a note at the bottom of one of the pages that said the next episode to prepare for is "Circus Knights" and there was a note, "Barham Parking Lot".

Flash forward to a few days later, and I was looking at some aerial shots of Universal Studios when I noticed a road called "Barham Blvd". I started following that road and BINGO! Found it...turns out Circus Major was set up in a Universal Studios parking lot!

See the curved road KITT is skiing on below?

Here it is in an aerial shot (red arrow):

Also, see the telephone pole in the ski mode picture above? Same one today:

A couple new locations for you...first, KITT leaving the police station in "KITT vs KARR" immediately following the first commercial break - it's actually Universal Studios' lot that KITT is driving in! The gate he stops at is the gate into Universal! Below in red is KITT's path:

I also found a location I have been looking a long time for...Wainwright Nursery from "Lost Knight" (one of my favorite episodes).

I asked our good friend Steve Whiteside if he could remember where the Comtron building was. He said the night shots of KITT crashing through the glass was filmed at Universal stage 12. The Exterior shots he believed to be on Riverside Drive in Sherman Oaks. I'm not seeing it with a quick scan, but I bet that info will help. Sherman Oaks feels like a good bet as we see in other shots that KITT is diving in that area.

Thanks for asking him, Sue!

I just did a complete scan of Riverside Drive and couldn't find it. So, that means either:

A) The building was there, but is now gone
B) Steve was not remembering the location correctly
C) The building is still there, but renovations have disguised it.
D) I am getting old and just plain missed it.

My money is on (unfortunately) option A (or D, which is also unfortunate)

Joe

P.S. Sue, do you think it would help to email Steve some screenshots of Comtron? That might help jog his memory, if he was incorrect in his first guess.

I sent him off the photos and got quite a bit of info in return.
OK, here's what I found out. The main Comtron building was in Santa Clarita off Ave Crocker, the part where KITT crashes thru the wall was stage 12, the north west door. Also there was some running shots of actors that were what we call pick-up shots and that was at the old Sunkist building on Riverside Dr. Hope that helps SW
Even with all that info I'm still not seeing it on street view on google maps. I'll let you guy's eagle eyes give it a shot. The other buildings on that street look older so I'd be surprised if they tore it down. It could be behind a building, or the street may have gone farther and has been broken into other streets since then.

Ave Crocker

Here is the sunkist building on Riverside.
