Who drives the semi?

Post by Andela » Fri Sep 03, 2004 3:28 pm

Who drives the semi? I know R.C. did sometimes in the last season but before that? You never get to see the driver. It dosen't have an auto pilot, does it?

We never see who is driving the semi, but it's a member(s) of F.L.A.G. that drives it. It's a Foundation rule that although the semi has the ability to drive itself, there must be someone behind the wheel at all times. I think I remember reading in The Knight Rider Legacy book than even Bonnie drove the semi a few times, though I don't remember that from the series. And of course we know RC3 drove it on occasion too.

The series never showed Bonnie driving the semi. It would have been interesting if she did try to drive it...can the semi's seats adjust far enough forward so that Bonnie's feet can reach the gas and brake pedals? And if the seats can adjust that far, how can Bonnie manage to steer the huge stearing wheel? It will probably scrape her chest or tummy when she drives.

It would of been cool if the semi had some sort of A.I. programing so it would drive itself and aviod hitting traffic. But in season 4 when the semi was stolen by a couple of bikers who thought the truck was filled with whisky. R.C. was shown with his feet up watching a b-ball game and the semi was in auto pilot. The series never explained how the truck avoided traffic and stop when its supposed to.

There are companies out there trying to use radar as a collision warning system for cars, so I would assume it was something along those lines. I imagine it would still only be something they could use on the open highway, not in cities or other high traffic situations.

I would assume that the semi's auto pilot was the same thing used in KITT, just that it lacked a personality like KITT had. It would be funny if the semi did have a personality... I wonder what it would be like...

You can take the picture on the other thread with Goliath with K.A.R.R.'s yellow scanner, and take the semi and paste K.I.T.T.'s red scanner on it

Remember the semi is a manual transmission. So if the driver happens to fall asleep straight on the bench seat and the semi then has to slow down. Since the gear stick is pretty long it comes down low when you shift into the bottom gears (2,4,6,8,10,etc) it would hit the driver pretty hard in the head. Or in the ribs.

You see the driver a few times in the first 3 seasons. He wears white overalls, and usually is only seen when the Semi is parked.

The one time you can clearly see him is in KITT Vs KARR. He's the poor chap pulling the bent doors off the back of the Semi after KARR turbo's into them.

Maybe it was RC3 all along, they just never bothered to introduce him until season 4..

The Semi has auto pilot.
RC says so in one of the episodes in the 4th season.
I think it was in the episode " Many Happy Returns"

In "Burial Ground", after Kitt and Michael experience the rock-slide, when KITT is back in the semi being repaired, there is a discussion between Bonnie, Michael, RC, Devon, and Kitt about "Bonnie's autopilot" system, and Michael states a passage from the foundation rule book about how a driver must be behind the wheel of the semi at all times.

I'm watching burial ground and hearing that discussion made me think of this post, so I figured I'd update everyone. :-)

 Wow, this topic just got dug out of obscurity.
The new and again improved evil's advertisement is currently too long and too badass to display here. But let's just say that with now 50% more evil, this **** is great! :skar:

 Ugh...I can just see it now. A fan fiction that explores the notion of what might have happened if Garth had installed an AI into Goliath. And, the fiction was written as a comedy. And, every once in a while, the catch line would go "Goliath!?!" after some bad, one liner. And, then the truck stereo would play the theme song to Three's Company.

Oh...I need mental floss to get rid of that image, now...
