"Knight Rider" (2008) Toys?
When the original show premiered, Kenner already had a toy line in the works which included the beloved Voice Car. But as with any other show, it was not known at the time if Knight Rider was going to be a successful series and/or last past the initial 13 episodes.
Well, we've now at least got a full season of the new Knight Rider, so does anyone know if there's been talk of a toy line? If the toy line came so quick with the original series, why hasn't it this time around?

The closest thing you're gonna get right now is the shelby collectibles KITT lookalike.Lost Knight wrote:When the original show premiered, Kenner already had a toy line in the works which included the beloved Voice Car. Probably won't be any toys but you may get some really nice collectibles at some point. The show is definitely NOT targeted towards the toy buying ages so there's no reason to have toys other than to cater to the few adults who would have interest in such things.

The Dark Knight was never targeted at those ages, but they still made so many toys and action figures aimed at those ages!I wouldn't be surprised to see some KR toys as well.Lexicon wrote:Probably won't be any toys but you may get some really nice collectibles at some point. They do make adult oriented toys, actually they make porn star action figures too. So yeah they could make Knight Rider stuff.Lexicon wrote:Probably won't be any toys but you may get some really nice collectibles at some point. I think companies are much more cautious. remember in the 80's it was a time of yuppies and people throwing money around left right and centre.Lost Knight wrote:When the original show premiered, Kenner already had a toy line in the works which included the beloved Voice Car. These days with the resession etc, Knight Rider will have to be a hit before anyone would relases any merchandise.

Re: "Knight Rider" (2008) Toys?
The original Knight Rider came on in the early 80s at a time where the US was also going the biggest recession since the Great Depression. Yuppies or not, things were in some ways similar to what's going on today. The real difference is that television today is a lot more competitive, not to mention expensive, executives demand instant results and generally don't give many shows much of a chance to build an audience. If it's not an instant hit (even a modest one) then they're going to going to give it time to improve. Which is a big mistake on their parts since over the years they should learn that some shows take time. One good example would be Seinfeld. Different genre sure, but I'm just using it as an example of a show that went under the radar for years before people started to take notice of it. If it came out today it wouldn't have probably even made it through a full season and given a chance to find its groove. Conveniently, it's also another show that came out at a time of a recession.
The new and again improved evil's advertisement is currently too long and too badass to display here. But let's just say that with now 50% more evil, this **** is great!

I've had mine since the day knight in shining armor premiered. It came hours before the show premiered on NBC.Mike K wrote:Indeed, which I have just ordered to put intop my KR collectionKnightRiderKR wrote:The closest thing you're gonna get right now is the shelby collectibles KITT lookalike.Lost Knight wrote:

You're not making a point. You're just saying that "adult-oriented" toys/action figures exist. Those things generally fall under the category of collectible merchandise anyway since they cater to a niche market of buyers who want really interesting (to them anyway) stuff to put on their shelves and they are priced significantly above the average toy you find on the shelves at Wal-Mart, Toys R' Us, and Target. At this point, the show doesn't have enough of a fanbase to justify any licensed merchandise whatsoever, so don't hold your breath for anything until there is at least a third-season around the corner.KnightRiderKR wrote:They do make adult oriented toys, actually they make porn star action figures too. KnightRiderKR,
This is a family orientated forum, so please keep your enthusiasm for adult orientated language and subject matter, such as "f" this, and porn star that, to places where that kind of thing is deemed to be specifically acceptable.
Please review our rules to ensure you’re aware of what’s acceptable here before posting further.
Many thanks.

I said they do make them in response to someone else saying he doesn't think they'd make toys to this show considering it has some t and a in it. I hope you didn't waste too much energy typing that totally unnecessary response to my older post.Lexicon wrote:You're not making a point. Re: "Knight Rider" (2008) Toys?
Wasn't there some Team Knight Rider toys as well? If TKR got some toys to the market, then this new KR should definetely get some toys released as well. The Shelby GT500KR diecast model isn't official Knight Rider merchandise, it's just a model of a Shelby. Shelby Collectibles & NBC should take that model to good use, make the KITT modifications and put it in the official Knight Rider box for fans to buy, maybe even Mike & Sarah figurines inside the modelcar
I think the 1:18 diecast models are targeted to adult collector's, they aren't even designed for kids toys, there's too many fragile detachable parts in them. For kids there could be for instance Hotwheels KITT toycars, there's already the Mustang GT500 toycar from them so it would be easy to do KITT too.

Re: "Knight Rider" (2008) Toys?
But that's what I'm so curious about. The Kenner toys of the 1980s were in production when the original series first started, and therefore did not have an established fanbase yet. How were the original toys justified? Apparently the circumstances were different back then when it came to licensing toy deals...Lexicon wrote:At this point, the show doesn't have enough of a fanbase to justify any licensed merchandise whatsoever, so don't hold your breath for anything until there is at least a third-season around the corner.
