Just very disappointed

I know the show hasnt came out yet & im not one of those random bashers & haters but what ive seen hasnt made me say "oh my god i have to see that now!" like the pilot did. Im a crazy die hard fan & i love anything that has to do with Knight Rider & for me not to be excited about this series something is definitely wrong. Now with the pilot i absolutley loved the Mustangs normal & attack mode & was behind it from the start, i liked the story & i thought the actors chosen would work well. With everything in place i thought to myself finally a fresh cool new Knight Rider, this is going to be awesome! Now when Gary Scott Thompson was added to the mix i thought it was a serious error from the start because he is known for doing things over the top & ridiculous. The pilot i think was successful because they kept things simple & took it seriously to keep it in the real world as much as they could & thats the key with fantasy movies & series like this to be any good. It really depends on the material your working with to know how far you can really take it. Batman Begins & The Dark Knight are very good examples of what im talking about, with that concept Chris Nolan tried to make it as real as possible without going too far & thats why those movies were so good & other examples related to that is once you go too far like Batman Forever & Batman & Robin the whole thing becomes ridiculous & terrible. Thats what i seriously think has happened to this new Knight Rider series, things have just been taken too far too early. The attack mode speaks for itself, the transforming into the truck is just not even remotely believeible & just like ive said ridiculous & im sure there is other over the top stuff we havent seen yet. Im not looking for total realism here but im not looking for a cartoon either. If i was just a random TV watcher & know nothing of Knight Rider & saw that preview i would have been like what is that some B-movie Transformer rip-off & wouldnt have givin it a second thought. From what ive seen of it im just very disappointed & i really hope they didnt take a good thing & turn it into total garbage & end up buried in the dumps with Knight Rider 2000 & Team Knight Rider, my fingers are crossed.

I'm with you on the transforming stuff, even in the pilot movie the nanotech was a little out there but as an advanced technology it became somewhat 'believable'. This transforming from a car to a truck is a little over the top and that's why I'm waiting to see how this is explained in the series. We were all ok with the nanotech somewhat so let's not quite hang GST yet lol but I'm not saying not to ready the noose! :good: jk

I guess we should probably wait until we've seen a few episodes before breaking out the pitchforks. I too hope they don't go too far into the realm of stupidity with stuff. Not like the original show was immune to doing that. Such as the being able to see something at impossible views and camera angles and who can forget the magical Microwave Jammer.

Hopefully they can explain in some at least semi-believable way how the transforming works. But the TV movie wasn't exactly perfect in its physics either, specifically the ending with the SUV... It looked cool though and I think that matters a little, tiny bit more than total realism.

Something just totally dawned on me, this transforming and nanotechnology is some super advanced stuff and z00story has said that there is a connection between KR08 and the new Battlestar Galactica. Is this technology part of that connection? Wasn't there mention of one the new characters or actors being part of BSG? Anybody here watch BSG?

I don’t watch BSG but Paul Campbell who joined the KR cast was on it as the character Billy Keikeya, on KR his name will be Billy Morgan. Close but no cigar. I do wonder how in the world they are gonna connect KR to BSG though.

i think the key to the transforming aspect and future KI3T abilities is to ground it in some form of realism, maybe we will have to stretch our imagination to embrace it but thats if it cool/wow factor is worth it. (which in from a technological standpoint is a lot harder than it was in the 80's) However we we should only have to stretch our beliefs for the greater purpose not make huges leaps in logic.

The transforming issue is right on the border in this respect, some like it, some don't. Personally i think this is an abilty that shouldn't have been given the green light or atleast limited to a better effect fo the transformation between Hero KI3T and Attack KI3T but at the end of the day it did look cool.

I wasn't a fan of the way KI3T changed colour in the pilot or the way the spoiler grew/appeared. The new mechanical transformation effect i think is more successful and fitting, it's what he's tranforming into and from where the main problem lies. As people have pointed out anything KITT transforms into should be of similar size and weight, the fact that he may have the potential to change shape to any vehicle he wants is quite out there and really steps on the toes of the benefits of needing an Attack KI3T.

As hard as it is, all we can do for know is try and have a little faith that when given context and whatever scientific reasoning behind it is acceptable to stretching the imagination.

For instance in 'Die Another Day' we were given the invisible car, when in the cinema watching this i felt disappointed and angry initially but Q's explantion actually sounded semi-reasonable and i immediately felt a lot better and found the situation forgiveable, the effect was passable and the use in the film was wasn't great but the final payoff where he moved the car to let the villian plummet to his death just about saved it. The problem with the film was it was just one of many disappointments that existed, the positives should always outweigh the negatives, afterall you can only forgive or live with so much. The threshold for such a thing differs from person to person which is why some of us have such strong reactions to what we will see in the new series.

from what we've learnt so far i feel the positives outweigh the negatives and the negatives have yet to be given context. I hope that this series will get the balance right, i know Knight Rider can't be what it once was but should still stay true to what made the series so special, which to me is the relationship between Michael and KITT and having a great supporting cast, so far it looks as though we are already lucky enough to have that. To me the tech was mostly just sparkle (with the exception of things like Turbo boost of course), it gave as a wow factor to compliment the core structure and make KITT more desireable as a hero. The latter is different for the audience of today, sad as it may be this new incarnation has to respect that.

Perhaps you could say i'm more forgiving than most people but i get moaned at by my friends regulary for not just enjoying a film on it's ownsake and overthinking and critising what i see. Surely with Knight Rider, a beloved gem from my childhood i should be a lot worse. Already from pilot and teaser it looks better than TKR and KR2000, not that they set a particulary high bar to beat. This incarnation still has a legitimate Knight Rider vibe to it and i cant help but be excited by that.

I'd imagine the connection would have something to do with progressive jumps in technology and KI2T and/or KI3T being the beginning of the sentient AI's that will be used to one day create the cylons. Thats only a guess though

In one of the interviews Neil or Michael conducted with either GST or David Bartis, one of them said they wanted this to be a throw back to the '80's (when TV was more fantasy, and the type you could unplug, watch, and enjoy).

Everyone seems to be so upset over the hood, or the transforming, or that it won't weigh the same as an actual F-150.....

AI's aren't as advanced as either KITT, nor can any advanced-AI in today's world fit in a little box, and be housed inside a car, but no one makes a big deal about that (since it defies realism).

Why is everyone so upset that "some" (and not other) elements of the new series defy realism?

I just think what they are trying to do is to be 20 years into the future like the original KITT was. I will have to say that I'm not impressed with the transforming thing. Because, to me, that has already been done with Transformers. They are just trying to copy that into this format. And I have to agree it is very over the top. But, I will wait and actually see what the series brings before I decide how I feel about everything connected with the show.

Eh, while I'm not crazy about the truck thing, I'm still glad they got a producer who's going to bring some real flash and excitement to the series.

Because the movie to me was about as dull and visually uninteresting as you can get.

I look at it like this. When we watched Knight Rider as kids we diden't really know any better. So even when we watch it now we still kinda access that same feeling we had when we originally watched it. I mean we know what it is now because were alot smarter and we as adults know what is real and what is hollywood.

Now when we see the new Knight Rider we are odviously a lot smarter then we were as kids and we know hollywood when we see it. Were not giving it that free pass like we did years ago.

I don't really care for the whole transforming thing, but it worked for the autobots... maybe it'll work for Knight rider

First time poster to the Board.

I think what the powers that be for this new "Knight Rider" is the same problem that "Star Trek:TNG" had with the original "Star Trek". The original ST was so far ahead of it's time that TNG had to show far more advanced technology. That seems to be the some problem with the new "Knight Rider. How do they show that this new KITT is far more advanced that the original KITT?

For as much as it seemed unlikely at the time the original KITT could talk and drive itself, can't we believe that a car as advanced as the new KITT can transform? Like it was back then when we were all so impressionable can't we just sit back for an hour each week and believe that one man can make a difference?

There is a cultural movement in a lot of entertainment (not just scifi/fantasy) for things to be more grounded in reality. One example I give is James Bond, where the franchise's reboot was done very well by moving it more into a realistic territory than one filled with invisible cars launching missiles at each other.

However, with a property like Knight Rider, I think going the opposite direction is the way to go. A lot of people were disappointed by the apparent lack of "high tech" in the TV movie in February. This is an interesting statement since KITT already did at least five things in that movie that I know most commercially available cars can't (self healing armor, AI, morphing, unlocking doors from a distance and driving itself beyond a parking spot). The producers obviously heard this and decided to up the ante, hence the aggressive new visual style and the 'transforming'. I think they needed to make these leaps and do it with abandon in the same way the 80's series asked us to accept new gadgets on a regular basis. If you're going to try to sell a story, you need to go all in and that's what they're doing.
