OK i don't mind the new outside of the car, though someone on the forums did photoshop it into a much nicer one.
However, I can't stand the new "voice modulator" which led me to this...its a bad chop job but it would at least be an improvement(use your imagination for what it SHOULD look like LOL).

I can see where youre going with this..but I really dont think the led vox-box would suit the Mustang. Theres nothing wrong with the new one at all. The actual voice modulator is pretty cool, its very remiscent of K2000 but at the same time modern, its just the snow globe/marble look that Im finding strange

I'm thinking the "snow globe" might be how the interactive images are projected onto the windshield. Guess its one of those wait and see things but I think it will do more then be a snow globe. I hope.... lol I really liked the old design with KITT's I phone style console in where the radio would be. But again we have to wait to see....

Re: This would make the new dash so much better.
I hope so, the new voicebox has left me a tad disappointed, times have changed and i can appreciate the need for a different approach to the one used in the original series. The iKI3T version used in the pilot wasn't perfect but i still felt a personality when i saw it. I for one enjoyed KI3Ts extra visual communication through pictures pretty cool, it may not have been everyones cup of tea but for me it gave KI3T some extra depth and i hope something like that carries over to the series although it appearing on the windshield seperate from the voice box may not hold the same appeal.msKEN wrote:I'm thinking the "snow globe" might be how the interactive images are projected onto the windshield. The problem with the new orb thing for me is its lack of warmth and personality, to me it just looks cold and that not how i want to envision KI3T.
With any luck with more footage or when seen in context i will learn to embrace it, however for now it leaves me a little hollow, probably more so than the new Attack KI3T
KI3T is the heart and soul of the dash, without him done right, the rest of the dashboard is of little consequence

You know, when I first heard about the interactive windshield I suspected that very little would be done to improve the dashboard. Lo and behold, that's exactly what happened. If anything, at least leave the iPhone screen there WITH the crystal ball and just remove the modulator graphic from the screen so that the ball still has a point in being there. I'm going to argue my desire for physical buttons for a long time to come. If anything, keep them for back-ups, or at the very least, add some to the sides of the ball to be more reminiscent of classic K.I.T.T.
EDIT: Geez, it seems I keep posting at the same time as other people a lot lately!

Re: This would make the new dash so much better.
I agree there should be physical buttons of some sort, even if KI3T was offline Mike/Michael should still be able to use certain functions, i realise of course that according to the pilot the Mustang then becomes a normal car which if this rule still stands does rain on my parade a little but to me the AI and abilities (even if just a handful) should be seperate, of course it's cool to see the car turbo boost but thats not what makes the car special, KI3T's personality is what drives the show forwardLost Knight wrote:You know, when I first heard about the interactive windshield I suspected that very little would be done to improve the dashboard. Also i do think that Mike should have the chance and authority to overide KI3T descisions if need be by pressing a button, not by asking KI3T to engage it or activating the needed function on the windshield. That should be used more for visual information and data analysis etc.
The buttons could be proper buttons, touch screen based or if they to embrace new technolgy then projected buttons that appear when needed to be picked up by infrared beams like the alternative keyboards in development
plus it just makes the dash look a lot cooler, even if they only appear when needed

I agree, I'm not fond of the virtual windscreen either. A dash with buttons would still look hi-tech even by today's standards. In fact, I'd say the original dash has still stood the test of time.

Re: This would make the new dash so much better.
I was thinking more about a round LCD screen(kind of like a bigger version of some of the digital gauges in race cars) with a virtual representation of the old style modulator, I'm simply not that good with a brush. If the ball simply appears to project the HUD then that would be totally awesome, but based on the way too short video clip I fear the "snow globe" is a permanent fixture. Personally, I do like the idea of a HUD because of the many actual practical applications and its not that big of a stretch from current heads up displays and VR. I guess only time will tell.weeezl wrote:I can see where you're going with this..but I really don't think the led vox-box would suit the Mustang. There's nothing wrong with the new one at all. Re: This would make the new dash so much better.
You're absolutely right. You know why? Because if we looked at a replica K.I.T.T., the dashboard (whether it's Seasons 1-2, or 3-4) is still eye-catching and impressive. Classic K.I.T.T.'s focus was his interior; the current K.I.T.T.'s (in all forms) is on its exterior. This is a point that I feel has been tragically overlooked in the new production, but is not to say that the exterior shouldn't remain impressive.Skav wrote:I agree, I'm not fond of the virtual windscreen either. We as fans have become jaded by accepting a sleek, humble-looking, car at a time when most of us were children and have the fond childhood memories clouding our judgement on the original series. The product placement was intended to be there—not by Pontiac—but by the producers! It was always Pontiac's peculiar choice to not want to sell extra vehicles because they were annoyed at people asking for K.I.T.T. versions. The original series would have had as much product placement as the 2-hour backdoor pilot if it weren't for Pontiac's request (at least for 1982).

Re: This would make the new dash so much better.
I've always liked the ergonomics aspect of the original KITT's dashboard since the center curved towards the driver, they could've even change the dash shape like that for the Mustang. There was some normal streetcars that had that kind of dashes, for example Opel Kadett E (1984-1991), BMW 300 series (1982-1991) and for instance Toyota Corolla (1992-1997) which is in the attached picture. The 2 airvents next to the digital clock would be great place for 2 monitors in the Toyota's dash
Even without those "colorful" buttons the curved dash shape itself would make it look closer to the original KITT than the stock flat Mustang dash.

Re: This would make the new dash so much better.
Maybe they do have something in store with the dash, either as a hidden back up or it's something that would be worked on in the latter half of the season if it gets picked up. But I hope they realize just how boring the inside looks without some real, non CG implemented effects inside the car. As it is now I could never see either version of the new KITT parked at Universal Studios, on display as they did with the original, it'd lead to even more disappointment than what I experienced from when I "met" KITT only to hear the voice of some guy that sounded no where close to William Daniels, hidden away somewhere talking to me, I think I was seven at the time and in part it destroyed what was left of the illusion for me. Okay, maybe it wouldn't be that big since at least the original KITT still had the interior and not a totally CG dependent HUD/view screen but kids still like flashy buttons don't they? Hell, I still like flashy buttons! They could just make them flat, touch screen like with some light behind them that changes color when pressure is applied. I will concede that it might be a bit more of a pain since the inside looks cramped. How wide is the dash of the current Mustang compared to the 82' Trans-Am? Okay, that wouldn't really be accurate since they replaced it in the TA...
I don't think just changing the snow globe (I can live with it) to a flat VM would fix it. The snow globe needs to be more recessed more into the dash and then they just need to put some flashiness into the rest of it on the driver's side, perhaps a few buttons just on the steering wheel which is standard these days anyway but obviously could be used for functions that are radically different from what the norm is.
If you just had something like the snow globe in your dash, people would probably look at you funny anyway thinking "WTH is that?!" While looking at you like a freak. At least with some buttons near or around it might make them think it's a part of some interesting customization. It doesn't have to be nearly as cluttered or complex as the original's dash, especially since the HUD can still replace the video screens, gauges should be in with the regular gauges behind the steering wheel, but a few buttons and whatever in the console/dash could certainly reduce the dullness of it. I just noticed they still just have analog gauges, what's up with that? The most advanced car in the world shouldn't have analog gauges for anything but back up. Where's the 3D printer thing going to be? Is the car of the future going to just have a radio and CD player, both of which at this point are old news, is that a cassette (almost said 8-Track) tape deck I see too? Oh wait, that's just the radio and it's display. No, I'm not mocking anything there, until I took a closer look that's what I thought it was for a second....
O_o Not even a USB port, dock or something to transfer data from a portable media player device? Okay, so KITT should still be able to wirelessly access those things, even if they themselves don't have the hardware to allow wireless communication so not really needed.
Having to vocally command everything also might get a tad annoying, might be faster but certainly annoying. Even Hasselhoff shut up sometimes before hitting Turbo Boost. They just can't rely on CG to bail them out. But I'll hold out at least some hope that as things move along there will be upgrades and that the car will continually be evolving as they said there would be and hope that includes the interior, not just the AI or exterior. There might be a fine line between being too simplistic and too complex but right now it seems strictly in the former.
About two months to go! I rambled way too much again... I need sleep....

The feeling I get when it comes to the new voice box is, I think it wil be KITT's eye and we'll be able to see things from KITT's POV. In the preview clip we see a fish eye lens shot of Justin responing to KITT.
I think that's kind of a nifty idea and visual.

There's an obvious spot where the voice modulator should go...right inbetween the Tach and Speedometer. NOT in the middle of the frickin dash!
the designers could have even put a camera looking at the driver (i.e. iMac style) right above the modulator. Then you could still have the fishbowl vision.
The more i hear about this show, the more I cringe...
the motto is ONE MAN can make a difference....not one TEAM. This is becoming more and more like TKR than we ever wanted to see ever again.

they should have something like this on the dashboard:
http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/ ... prd486.htm
(that thing is Made in USA btw)
But they should have something like that with smaller analog gages below it as backup.
Instead of doing the center panel with CGI they need to take the damn radio out and put an actual LCD screen there. Put physical buttons on the side.
Actually the idea of a glass cockpit for mission critical applications is being implemented by the military as well. Here is the Ship Control Station on the latest class of nuclear submarine, the Virginia Class:
Contrast that with what was found on the USS Florida where I stood the helm watch (this is not me in the pic):
ok, if you look at the enlisted (blue shirt) guy in the background, who is reaching up for a switch, he is the Chief of the Watch, he controls water coming in and out of the submarine, so as to control the buoyancy of the boat (Archimedes law). The other two guys in blue shirts are controlling the depth and course of the boat. Note they are of low rank. (chief of the watch is normally an E-7 or above, helm is usually an E-4 or below). There is a guy who sits behind them whom you can't see, called a Diving Officer of the Watch, aka "DOOW", spoken "Dive". Dive's job is to "reach and maintain ordered depth" by telling the guys at the yokes what to do.
In the Virginia Class photo, the guy without a headset is doing the same thing with a touch screen. (they have eliminated the junior guys controlling the helm, three watches have been integrated into two people in the Virginia)

Oh.....my......GOD. If there was an emoticon of a head banging against a brick wall, I'd use it here. If this is all you're ever going to contribute to the board, I'm sure there are many other boards that you can push your "U.S. Navy Made in U.S.A." agenda. It's just one line man...and before this week, I hadn't posted anything in like a month (June 24-Jul 21 with no posts). Plus my posting history on here goes back to 2003 and while I concede mentioning of USN history back then, I don't think you can cite anything I said about "made in USA" until the Mustang KITT was announced. Sheesh.Lost Knight wrote: If there was an emoticon of a head banging against a brick wall, I'd use it here. If this is all you're ever going to contribute to the board,
and no there's nothing wrong with me. Since it has caused unintended offense, if I knew of a way to edit posts on here I would remove that line for you, but I don't, so I can't.
I feel that the helm control pics illustrated my point, though, so I stand by that part.
Just be cool it's all good.
