It's "Be Positive" Time!

Post by kopiikat » Tue Mar 11, 2008 3:52 pm

I don't think there have been any threads quite like this yet, so I thought I'd start one up. You guys seem like a nice bunch, though, so I assume I won't be flamed if there has been? (Can you tell I'm still nervous about this forum's etiquette?)

Anyway, I think it's time to think positively! We all know what was "wrong" about the NBC movie, so let's focus on what was right! Tell me (only) the things that you really loved and would like to see more of in the new series.

Again, none of this → :( :? and more of this → :D :) 8)

I for one am glad Knight Rider is coming back. Something is better than nothing and hopefully the feature film will go forward also.

My first five...

The scanner
If there is one iconic item from the original series that you don't want to mess with, it has to be the scanner. They had to come up with something that looked new while still keeping ties to the original. And they nailed it. The scanner looks great.

Justin Bruening
I think he's perfect casting. He seems like the kind of guy men would want to have a beer with and women get their eye candy. He looks like he's having fun with it, and if you're in a show with a talking car you'd better not take it too seriously.

The self-healing bullet holes
I was a doubter. I didn't like the idea of the regenerating skin. But watching the bullets shatter the skin and bounce off was very cool.

Hoff's cameo
Hasselhoff should not have a regular role in the series. His part in the movie was great as is: an emotional tie-in to the original show with a hint of future appearances some time in the future. Perfect.

The opening credits
Not just the credits, but the lead-in scene as well. Seeing the trucker watching KITT come up in his rear-view mirror was SOOOO classic Knight Rider. And then hearing those first few notes of the theme music kick in... wow.

Agreed with all of the above. I also dug the "cliffhangers" before the commercial breaks. I thought it was brilliant to take such a simple thematic device from the original series and carry it over to this new incarnation of the show. It shows beyond the obvious homages such as the scanner that the producers/writers were trying to bring in elements of the original series in spirit.

I liked the changing of colors (Clarification purposes only here: I don't like the shapeshifting, JUST The color changing) And the part when KITT was driving fast and the vapor was visible over the car. I liked most of the movie

I figured I should add my own little list to the thread, since I went to the trouble of stressing over creating it and all. Of course, I liked most of what you guys have already mentioned. :D If this thread's still active tomorrow, I'll add a few more things.

1: I actually really loved KITT. Maybe it's just the Doctor Who or James Bond fan in me, but I didn't have any trouble falling in love with a new version of one of my favorite characters. He might have a different body, different voice, and different personality, but he's still our KITT.

2. I like how I can see the beginnings of a great team. I know that it's "one man can make a difference" and all, but do you seriously think Michael would have made much of a difference without the help of 2-3 knowledgeable experts and a super car?

3. I liked how KITT kept saying, "Yes, I know," in response to compliments. :D

I see a ton of potential for this series, and I really feel like a lot of the nit-picky things people have been complaining about can be easily fixed with some loophole or other in a later episode. Here's to thinking positively about this series and the Glen Larson movie!

I for one didnt have any complaints about the movie.i throughly loved the whole thing.I know a lot of people like to pick things apart and voice thier displeasure about cretain things.I thought the acting was very good,I liked Val Kilmers voice,I loved the new mustang as KITT,I like the fact that if it does go to series,it looks like they will be going after the Black River entinty all season with a big season finale.Im a big smallville fan and if you watch the show the whole season builds up to the big season finale. That makes for a lot more entertaining TV than just having single episodes that dont really have anything to do with each other.BTW I dont mind people voicing thier opinions,it always seems to make for interesting conversation. How boring would it be if we always agreed with each other. Its always fun to converse with other Knight Rider fans like you guys.

ahhhh positive feedback is nice. im glad theres some positive enrgy out there, i mean its natural for us to rip apart any show, but comparing 90 episodes to 1 isnt very fair.

the best thing i think was theres so much potential, and the great thing is they can fine tune everything if it becomes a series.

one thing i noticed a lot of people saying is, how could kitt (kr 3000) get hacked into so easily. well i think it took a brainy kid no more then 3min to hack into the classic kitt in sole survivor. the fact they that was a part of the show was interesting and added more to the plot.

and im glad someone else loved the theme music too.

I LOVED THE MUSTANG!! :) I always loved Mustangs and that car ROCKS! They did great with KITT. I also loved KITT's sense of humor (even though accidental) like when he just did a 180 when Mike was talking about the dropped potato chip and KITT was like he just got a message for a change of course, as if the potato chip had nothing to do with the 180. I think we all knew better.

He did it right-hand, of course, so Mike would have to peel his face off the window.
The new KITT has the plucky attitude that made the first KR so much fun; I think they're on to something good.

Come to think of it, neither do I. Reading? Yes. Listening to music? All the time. Eating...not so sure (anyone remember off hand?). I also have to say that I was very amused by KITT putting on the pic of the trash can sign and the crying Native American. I thought it was a nice touch to not have him actually say something dry like "Please pick up the potato chip", instead he used verbal inference and visual signs which was much more natural for an AI in a car IMO (if that makes any sense).
