Potential Series - What can we do?

I'm starting this topic to keep us focused. Lets not harp on the minor details that we'd like to see changed, lets actually work to make change.

Now that the Pilot has finally aired, the journey for this to become a series has just begun. While the numbers were great on Sunday - I think it's important us to focus our efforts to help things along.

There are several ways we can help:
  1. 1. Watch the movie again Sunday. Yes, we aren't all neilson viewers, but DVRs like Tivo track data that is provided to the Networks to see how often someone watched or replayed specific data. I believe Cable companies too track this to some level (amount of data usage)
  1. 2. Tell two friends to watch it that missed out. They'll be watching to see how much of an audience drops off on the second viewing to see how the replay value of it is. If there is a large drop off next week, I don't see that as being good.
  1. 3. Be vocal and constructive on this site and other forums. If anything the past has shown us, Networks are listening more and more to fans. Shows like Family Guy, Jericho and Firefly wouldn't have had further chances if it wasn't for the out pouring of fan support. If you really do want this show to goto series (whether with no changes or with some), you need to be well thought out and constructive with your reasons behind you opinions. People are willing to listen if we speak loudly, clearly and united.

The Network will also being to do focus groups and aggregate all the data to see if a series is finacially feasable. Remember: Knight Rider 2000 did well in the ratings, but ultimately it tested poorly in focus groups.

While that type of data is out of our hands, there has to be other positive ways that we can do to help? Suggestions?

Like i wrote in another thread. But its going to be Copied and Pasted. THIS is just IMHO and not directed towards anyone elses point of view.

The Question and yes the Million Dollar Question is. WILL IT BE PICKED UP AS A SERIES? I hope it sorta does, with some of the older stuff finally being tossed in and cleaning up of the KR2000 movie and TKR and to dismantale the problems covered in those, as we all know KR2000 sucked but had some good kickbacks in it but still this needs to be fixed and burried for all of us fans. But yeah this would be a good idea to be picked up and finally made into something a bit more realistic of the true factoids of the original series without hacking the old original series. This left me with a unclosed mind about it because it appears that he is off on a mission without closure to the event. The Airplane idea is capable and usable but on a limited basis and the Semi idea is more still realistic even in todays times. We also gotta have them understand that there is a CAR OF THE FUTURE ON THE ROAD (in the movie/show) And it must learn to addapt and grow like KITT did in the original series. There is too-much negativity on this and i for one have my dislikes and sorta left my heart with this uneasy feeling but its gonna drag out sometime for us who want to see this go into a series in a sense of how long between the Movie premier and the series. Right now i just feel like i am on the edge of waiting to see another episode and that to me in part of the negativity of the peoples minds and feelings being displayed on this board, just the anxious feeling to see if its actually going to be picked up and more episodes being made or will it leave us with a punch in the gut again on not trying to build from it.

One of the most constructive posts that has been written in the last two days. Thank you, Neil :)

I agree with you that our voice does count and that we can do our part to turn this pilot into a series.
The points you have mentioned are good and important. Posting on message boards is a good point, even more so since most reviews I have read are unfortunately mostly negative.
Besides that, many fanbases send letters, postcards or some items to the studio when their series gets canceled. Well, we want our series to start, so why don't we do the same and send them reall letters written on paper. Something they can touch and see. Even in this time that is dominated by the internet a written letter weights more than an e-mail post in a message board. Let's try to find something that we all can send to NBC to demonstrate an united fanbase that wants this series.

Besides from what I have said, it can't harm to write an e-mail additionaly to the studio or post in their own message boards...

I am using other message boards as well to try to drum up some more support and to spread it around, even using AIM as a way to spread it out a bit more as well.

If anyone knows of emails for feedback or the people in charge simply emailing works. Even though they are likely to not read many of the emails sent, they will see the subject titles so just putting subject titles as "The Knight Rider movie was amazing" or "Looking forward to a series for Knight Rider" will show them that we want to see it go to series.

I agree with you guys--I think we should physically write in to NBC and tell them how much we want it on the air. Maybe someone can post the right address/contact person of who to send letters to?

Another idea is a petition. I'm not sure how much credit the networks give to it, but it might be a good start!

Let's do what we can to bring back the series!!

you all have nothing to worry about. i'm very good at this kind of stuff and can tell you with good faith that it will be picked up as a series. when is not known yet but trust me here it will be picked up and soon. this comes from a diehard kr fan that grew up watching the old series as a kid. the new kitt car that we all saw in the nbc movie on sunday i for one don't like it. look i know this is 2008 and not 1982-1986 anymore and they had to change kitt up alot. but when you think of how kitt looked before the dash, the lines, the turbo-boost, going through walls, kitt charm and all of that you just can't beat that. with the new technology that kitt now has is kick-ass cool. but i would have loved to see kitts new body that looked a little like the old with old technology mixed with the new. what i hear that kitt can now do stuff that we haven't even seen yet and i cannot wait to see it. so eventhough it isn't kitt old body and kitt isn't the way we remeber him and the old cast bonnie, april, rc3 devin miles (god rest his sole) i'm willing to give this a chance and see where it takes us. i can't wait for it to go to series, and like i said earlier it most definitely will go to series, imean when the show ended sunday night i knew right then and there it's going to series. so don't worry about that. it still wouldn't be a bad idea to send nbc real letters and post cards. i'm sending mine out to tomorrow. ladies and gentlemen KNIGHT RIDER IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :kitt: :dash4:

Neil has a very good point here! I'm seeing so many people butcher this thing death! Is it really fair on its first outing?? What would YOU like to see done different.. or what in your view would make it better! Even slightly! Sure there's things wrong ... but back in the 80s it was down to the makers and producers only as there was no net back then, its a proven point that fans on the net do get there way when protesting sometimes.

I applaud this thread, would be nice to see more positives come out of this.

Just give us the contact info or mailing address so we can either get in touch or write a letter to encourage NBC to bring back Knight rider as the series again.

FYI: Any post here off topic will be removed. Lets keep this focused on methods of contact - not a sounding place to post opinions about the show. We have a 100 or so threads already dealing with that ;)

[ I believe Cable companies too track this to some level]

I work for Cox Communications we don't track this. Its not something that is any of our business what people record and don't record.

Neps, i think my post wasn't off-topic, but here i leave again my opinion  :

I think NBC should "let" the show being seen in another countries around the world, so that all fans all over the world have the oportunity to give his opinion, but i don't know if this is possible (the show apearing in other countries tv stations, because of financial questions i think). But that perhaps would contribute also to the future of the series. I've watched the show by dowloading the video from the internet, but is not the same as viewing on television.

Hope my opinion contributes to this cause 8)

Best regards

Hi folks,

I poked around at various "Save our show" campaigns (such as for "Journeyman" and so on) and dug up the following information:

JEFF ZUCKER
President and Chief Executive Officer
NBC Universal Television Group
30 Rockefeller Plaza
New York, NY 10112

BEN SILVERMAN
NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios
c/o NBC-TV
3000 W. Alameda Avenue
Burbank, CA 91523

Joanne Park - Senior Press Manager NBC Entertainment Publicity
Joanne.park@nbcuni.com

Mitch Metcalf - Executive Vice President, Program Planning & Scheduling
NBC Universal
Mitch.Metcalf@nbcuni.com

Vince Manze - President, NBC Program Planning, Scheduling and Strategy
NBC Universal
Vince.Manze@nbcuni.com

Lisa Vebber - Senior Vice President, Scheduling & Strategic Analysis
Lisa.Vebber@nbcuni.com

I would recommend writing professional, courteous and brief. You may wish to tailor your email/letter to each person. For instance, with Vince Manze I will be mentioning demographic information about myself since his role may take that into account. For Joanne Park I will be mentioning how good their ad campaign was and mention NBC's cooperation with knightrideronline.

I believe it is critical to send these letters between today and this coming Monday (2/25) since this is the time frame the movie aired initially and then airs again this coming weekend.

I believe so. I couldn't find addresses for the others. Generally written letters are more effective (even in the information age) but emails AND snail mail will probably be cool too!

Which would be the best to get in touch with concering getting the pilot shown in uk,

If it can get support here, news chat shows etc if it where due to air here, it would give it a boost.

It won't likely ever air in the UK unless there's serious demand for it over there if it actually goes to series. They don't sell the Mustang in the UK, at least not at Ford dealerships, and there are no UK products featured in the show so there's no sponsorship angle to work from.

What about the old Knight Rider, you didn't get Trans am's here either, I don't follow your idea at all.

whet wrote:What about the old Knight Rider, you didn't get Trans am's here either, I don't follow your idea at all.
I'll explain a little bit how this all works. Ford put down money and cars for the telemovie to promote their products by featuring them in the production and with ads that were played during the airing of the final product to specifically promote cars which are not available in the UK. No UK companies had anything to do with the production of KR2008 so there is no logical reason why the telemovie would be aired in the UK unless a network like Sky decides to put up money to get it due to a big demand for it or some network that shows American TV shows gets it from Universal TV when they offer it for the global market. Many people in the UK and other parts of the world didn't get exposed to American TV shows like Airwolf, Knight Rider, and The A-Team until they were off the air and offered up for global markets where American TV shows are in demand. If KR2008 leads to a series (seems to be the case at the moment) and the series is successful, Universal will offer it to foreign markets and then you will be able to see it on whatever network picks it up over there.

If there is a major network that shows a lot of American TV shows over there, especially from Universal, then you can write to them but otherwise there is nothing you can do on your side of the pond because as I have said, your country has no involvement in the show. Once the show goes to series and there is a season 1 DVD set in the UK, buy it and tell all your friends about it. Universal sells their own shows on DVD there so I have a feeling you would likely be able to get it. If you ABSOLUTELY feel that you must see the new KR right now and you can't watch it through the NBC Direct download on the Knight Rider site, you can get in HD-lite off the P2P networks but you will have to do that at your own risk.

For those who havent sent emails regarding enjoying the movie and hoping it will go to series, its a great way to let the people behind the project know what we think. I did so yesterday and got a reply back, and they do appreciate receiving the feedback :)

Hello friend,

Being from another country, in this case Portugal, I could also send emails, once I saw the pilot through the internet? Is my opinion valid?

the whole movie is up on youtube now, so the suits might be keeping an eye on that as well to see how popular it is?

It seems that videos that make the top 10 watched on youtube list seem to draw attention, so that might be another angle we can use.
