I'm considering both but I don't like the way they did the fog lights. Should I get both or go look for a couple KITT models and do one up as KARR? I'm debating still.

I see absolutely no difference between that and the Aoshima version. Well, except for the price of course. :) Maybe the lights will look better on this version like with the Ertl K.I.T.T., but the fact that there are 6 lights in the first place always annoyed me so it doesn't matter.

You've gotta have the ERTL KITT diecast, you are missing out! Order one today and save yourself the pain of not having one. You can purchase KARR later just in case you're not happy with KITT (which I really, really doubt will happen).

About the KITT model kits, the reissues are pretty abundant and cheap. The original 1983 release boxes come up every now and then on ebay and are not that expensive when not factory sealed. It's your choice and pick. Remember, when you buy a diecast KARR later, you will only be paying around $35.00 including shipment. But they come already assembled. On the other hand, building a model kit comes with some expense, namely building materials, paint, glue...and the time spent on building it.

I prefer my diecast to the re-issue model I have.

I don't like the fogs either or the mismatched interior with the season 4 exterior, but it's still really cool.
KITT project is on again!

Currently working on: brand new stock tan interior, almost done!

Interesting. At first I thought it was the Aoshima model. But note the differences like the tires. If all 6 fogs happen to be clear, I'll probably pick up 2 KARR's and replace KITT's orange fogs. That is of course unless Ertl can send me extra fog lights.

Hmmm... well, I have built model kits before. To this day I STILL wish I kept my KITT Model I built as a teen. :( I think it was falling apart and needed regluing, was all. I vaguely recall a lost rear-view mirror (or maybe it was put in the car for safe keeping, dunno).

I've got a ton of other expenses, esp. for my REAL car project. :) But I am thinking of grabbing the KITT & KARR die-cast set. I guess it would save money to get an already assembled but my beef is, I am not fond of the fog lights, and the interior detailing. Where with a model, I could fudge and make it pretty much somewhat closer to what I'd like, I think.

Like I say, I'm still debating.

Before I got my diecast, I was also skeptical about it...the orange foglights, the tinted rear windshield, the rather bulky looking sideview mirrors, etc. I was really hesitant to buy it and where I come from, its not cheap. But I took the plunge and I haven't regreted it since. And I feel most (if not all) members here feel the same way. Trust me, you will like it. The size, heaviness and utter beauty of it will take your breath away when you actually hold it in your hands.

Plus you don't get a working scanner out of the box with the model kits, Tika.

I'll probably pick up a KARR. Has anyone seen any pics from the rear. I wonder if it will have the "KARR" plates or if they will just leave them off (or worse leave the "KNIGHT" ones on).

What I'm wondering is if Ertl's K.A.R.R. will utilize yellow LEDs as opposed to the orange ones the Aoshima version uses. I've looked in Radio Shack for 3mm clear yellow LEDs but of course that's the only color and size they were out of at the time. Eventually I'll get ahold of some and solder them in.

Interesting thought. Would ERTL do that, if asked politely?

Plus, I asked Ertl. They said "no".

Sad. But I´m not buying another KITT just because of the two clear lamps. I´ll stick to my orange ones... :D
