QUESTION: time continuity KITT and KIFT?

Post by young-nyc » Fri Dec 14, 2007 6:01 pm

Hey guys i was just wondering..
in Knight Rider 2000 tv movie we were introduced to KIFT the 4000 series model, and devon also dies in this movie.

the new tv show will introduce KITT the 3000 series model.

does this mean that Knight Rider 2000 movie never happened, thus KIFT not being built and devon not dying??
just curious..thanks for those who can enlighten this for me :D

From what we've heard here on the boards thus far, the Knight 4000 was originally supposed to make an appearance in the same garage that we'll see the original K.I.T.T. However, the director apparently made the last-minute decision to not include the Knight 4000 because it wouldn't make sense to show it before the Knight 3000 is introduced.

Now, since Edward Mulhare passed away in 1997, he obviously could never be a part of the movie, and his character was killed in Knight Rider 2000, as we all know. So making a reference to his absence in my opinion would be unavoidable. I'm going to take a guess that they're going to acknowledge Devon's death and some loose events in Knight Rider 2000, but will keep it at the bare minimum, and never even mention Shawn McCormick, Russ Maddock, or the Knight 4000.

It's almost a shame the 4000 won't appear and that KR2000 won't be "mentioned".

I'd have loved to see them try to explain how Michael Knight hardly aged between the end of Season 4 (1986) and KR2000 (obviously set in the year 2000), then has suddenly aged nearly 20 years in the mere 7/8 years after K2000 took place...

To be totally honest folks...

(and this is coming from the community's KR2000 resident)

I would rather they skip the events depicted in KR2K and move on.

It would be very similar to what Singer did with Superman Returns... he used Superman: The Movie and Superman 2 as a "vague history" and retconned the third and fourth abominations.

Team Knight Rider pre-retconned KR2K as well (meaning the events took place before the events in the movie, but it was made clear that the movie did not take place in the TKR universe).

This would be a good idea for us all.

And I am sure it is also very obvious they are retconning TKR too.

I think it might take too much screen time to "explain away" the KR2000 movie, so they probably will just mention Devon's death in passing.

Well, I believe David Hasselhoff had attributed his lack of aging in Knight Rider 2000 to the extensive plastic surgery he had in the Pilot. I think he looks good for his age now and it won't look like that much of a difference.

They should just have a picture of Devon that says 19XX-2000 and be done with it
