George Barris KITT being auctioned again

Post by Michael Pajaro » Wed Aug 01, 2007 1:57 am

Remember that strange SPM KITT that sold for $60,000 at auction 2 years ago?

http://www.knightrideronline.com/phpbb/ ... ht=auction

Well, it's going up for sale again August 17th in Monterey, California. My only guess is that the original sale fell through for some reason.

This description is slightly better than the one they originally had 2 years ago, as now they say the car was "was re-converted to simulate the 'Super Pursuit Mode' variant of KITT", although they still say it appeared in Knight Rider 2010.

My understanding is that the Trans Am body (without the pseudo-SPM gear) was used in some capacity in the show. Maybe as a stunt car for long shots. George Barris got the car back, and then added the accessories later on.

The description is very misleading, but most of it may technically be somewhat accurate. (aside from the KR2010 reference, of course)

If I recall correctly, the guy that won it at auction died or was killed
shortly after he got the car. I Don't know any of the details though.

But I guess it is back up on auction. That dash and most of the stuff in it
is mine. There are no electronics in it. It may be back lit but everything in
it was dummy by request. The overlays are a dead give away!

Curious to see how much it goes for this time.

Why put it up for auction? Just let each KRO member have the car for a week.

Then again...some people (like me) won't want to part with the car after the week is up.

It would be my luck that the week I get it would be Dec 20th or something... then I'd have to dig him out.

But... yeah, whatever. If they can't be clear on what this car does/did and can't keep their facts straight, they're going to lose buyers.
Heaven, where all QC only has to be run once.

Hey, maybe KITT's buried under that snow. You're giving me an idea, SD_Chick.

When it's my turn to give the car up...
Car? What car?

Seriously, I somehow doubt that this car was ever on TV. Those property masters at Universal always did a great job at keeping KITT looking real...at least on the exterior. I do agree with K.I.T.T. I haven't seen that front nose anywhere throughout the whole series.

This car just irritates me. It's like a virus that keeps coming back. I wish someone would just take off that front spoiler and those side extentions. Argh! :?

I really thinkg the SPM version of it looks kind of retarded. And prove me worng, but i remember it had something stickiing out between the frontwheels and bumper. This car does't have it. I'll have to re-check season 4 for this now.

UPDATE: George Barris' KITT is not listed in the auction results. That means that either the car was removed from the auction, or they had no bidders. Considering that the car was offered "without reservation" I think it's highly unlikely that NOBODY would bid.
