The Fall Guy

Post by Knight Rider Archive » Mon May 21, 2007 7:41 am

I've been watching re-runs of The Fall Guy (on Five US here in the UK). Haven't seen it in years, and I have been struck by how much Knight Rider actually borrowed from this show!

The Fall Guy was created by Glen Larson, who also wrote The Fall Guy pilot movie. There is a scene in that first show where Colt (Lee Majors) arrives in town, and is looking for the bad guy... and it plays almost exactly like Michael's first visit to the House of the Rising Sun, in Larson's Knight Rider pilot -- even down to the same song on the jukebox! (Also, Bill McKinney and Dennis Fimple play deputies, just as they did in Knight of the Phoenix).

Another episode had Colt Seavers go into jail, and the escape was very reminiscent of Devon's in No Big Thing (the mass brawl in the cafeteria, and the truck jumping a fence).

A LOT of scenes were filmed on the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Looking forward to the Second Season, where Larson uses the Trans Ams he shared with our favourite show!

The Fall Guy is THE show I have wanted to see for years now. It's never been shown in reruns in my area. With the First Season DVD coming out, I will finally get the chance to see the show!

It's a great show! I remember loving it as a kid, and I am really enjoying the reruns. Will definitely be picking up the DVD.

Also, I forgot to mention, the "jam the rudder" plane sequence from Knight Rider's "The Topaz Connection" is also borrowed from Fall Guy's "The Rich Get Richer". It works for Colt.

In tonight's episode, Don Stroud played a mean biker -- and wore the same outfit he did as Hilly in "Good Day at White Rock". Jack Gill also made an appearance as a member of the biker gang!

Loving it!

I just watched the Fall Guy pilot on DVD - I think I'm really going to like this show! Here's what Paul was talking about in his post above, concerning the same actors playing policemen in both series.

From The Fall Guy:

From Knight Rider:

I think that's cool.

Watched the Fall Guy episode "Ready... Aim... Die!" last night and noticed something interesting -- the music was composed by Morton Stevens, who also composed the music for Knight Rider's "Deadly Maneuvers". Some of the music for both episodes is the same! (The KR ep was several months after the Fall Guy show)

I'm still waiting for an episode that DOESN'T have a Knight Rider guest star in it :)

Joe

P.S. What do you think, Paul - "The Fall Guy Archive" site next???

LOL

I don't know about that, Joe! I am loving the show, though, it's definitely one of Larson's best. I really hope they release the whole series on DVD!

It's not just the guest stars, but the production personnel: Bob Bralver was Stunt Co-ordinator, David Braff was a Story Editor, Daniel Haller and Sidney Hayers were directors...

And both shows were FUN!
