As I mentioned in my post about the Season 4 DVD release in the UK, the most important difference with the Region 1 version is the fact that the promotional/introductory videos of Knight Song and Scent of Roses have been added. :) :) :)

Further information about the Season 4 DVD (released in the UK) you can in find the following post:

Do you mean the original 30-second Pre-Opening Teaser Trailer, that ends with the safehouse exploding in 'THE SCENT OF ROSES'?

Yes! Both teaser trailers from 'The Scent of Roses' and 'Knight Song' are included in the UK release.

But didn't the Region 2 releases of the seasons never include the teasers? Are they suddenly now included for Season 4 or am I missing something here? I could swear I remember big complaints that R2's sets didn't include the teasers and that the order of the episodes were slightly mixed up.

There were complaints only for Seasons 1 and 2, because they do not include the teasers.

The DVDs of Seasons 3 and 4 include all the teasers in the Region 2 releases.

The order of episodes is generally fine in all Seasons, except only from Season 1 where the episodes are indeed slightly mixed up.

Hang on - are you saying that there are NO teaser-trailers on the UK sets of the 1st and 2nd Seasons at all? Why?

Yes, unfortunately the teaser-trailers from Seasons 1 and 2 are not included in the UK sets. One plausible explanation (given from a person who works in Universal-Playback) is probably the limited space in the single-sided DVD discs because they have audio soundtrack and subtitles in several languages (especially the Season 2 has subtitles in many European Languages).

Seasons 3 and 4 have only English Audio Language and NO subtitles at all.
Hopefully, both Seasons 3 and 4 have all the teasers.

Region 1 sets have all the teasers (they have double-sided discs, audio language and subtitles in a few languages). However, only two teasers are not included in Season 4 (probably because of lack of space in the Discs - this is the only plausible explanation that I can give).

If you like to have all the teasers, the only solution is to buy online the Region 1 sets from Seasons 1 and 2. PlayUsa is a very good website. Click on the following link for further information.

I would be glad to answer any other queries if you have.

Cheers !!!

I have to say, I think that's poppycock!

The DVDs are single-sided, but dual-layer, which gives room for 4 hours of high-quality video... 4 episodes of Knight Rider (the standard on each disc) brings you to approx. 188 minutes, leaving nearly an hour free (or about 1.5 GB of data). Sure, the R2 releases have more subtitles and/or audio tracks -- but that didn't affect the earlier releases, remember.

The Teaser situation has more to do with ripping something out of the shows to get the fans to go out and buy them again when they're reissued further down the line. Why not instead remove the GL Productions and Universal Logos at the end?

And, from a technical standpoint, when they are producing these DVDs, they are able to manipulate the bit rates and the compression of the files that make up the disc. I'm glad they have left Seasons 3 and 4 alone, but their releases of 1 and 2 (and the same for The A-Team) were incredibly shoddy.

Yes, Loaded247 is very good! I purchased the Season 2 (R1) from that site.

However, Loaded247 does not have Season 1 DVD set! :?

First of all, congratulations for the wonderful site that you have made. I really enjoy the 'Knight Rider Archive' website! It is certainly very nice. Well done!

Concerning the issue about the teasers I only partially agree with you. Of course, it does not make sense to cut off the trailers but I am sure that I heard last year from the forum that the data space was the main reason (a source from Universal-Playback said that!).

Since the teaser situation has to do mainly with ripping why they did not do the same thing for the Seasons 3 and 4? Why the Region 1 releases include all the teasers (except from the two teasers missing from Season 4)? Is it a coincidence that Seasons 1 and 2 have audio soundtrack and subtitles in several languages, while the Seasons 3 and 4 have only English audio soundtrack and NO subtitles at all?

I remember that Universal-Playback released in 2003 the 'The Best of Knight Rider'. It was the ONLY earlier release with audio soundtrack and subtitles in several languages. It has two single-sided discs. The first disc has the Pilot episode and one more episode; the second disc has THREE episodes (approximately 135mins per each disc).

In Seasons 1 and 2 sets, the discs has FOUR episodes (approximately 180 mins per each disc)! The 2003 Release (The Best of Knight Rider) includes the teasers but each disc has only 135 mins of video. Whereas, the Seasons 1 and 2 discs have additional time of 45 mins because they include one more episode.

In addition, it seems that the teasers from 'The Scent of Roses' and 'Knight Song' are missing due to the lack of space in Side A of Disc 2.

Finally, I do not agree that Seasons 1 and 2 are shoddy. Except from the cutting of teasers (which is certainly very annoying), I believe that Seasons 1 and 2 sets are generally very good and they do provide a lot of features (extras, audio soundtrack and subtitles in several languages).
I think the Season 3 DVD is really shoddy because of the sound effects problem, which shows how badly was made. In addition, it does not have any subtitles at all or any kind of extra features.

Congratulations for the superb site of 'Knight Rider Archive'. Keep up the very good work! Cheers! :D

I wouldn't hold much stock on a remark like that -- there were a lot of complaints when those sets first came out, and it sounded more like a damage-limitation PR exercise, to tell the truth. "But... It wasn't our fault!!"

The differences with Season 3 and 4 are that they are essentially direct "copies" of the US-released sets, which Playback have started to do (presumably to cut costs) with Knight Rider, The A-Team and Quantum Leap. Now, I know that they have been "tweaked", that Season 4 has the missing teasers and whatnot, but the R2 Seasons 1 and 2 were actually produced and released by Playback, independent of the releases Stateside. I think they underestimated the response they would get about cutting the shows, especially when they released both sets as "The Complete Season [x]".
In Seasons 1 and 2 sets, the discs has FOUR episodes (approximately 180 mins per each disc)! The 2003 Release (The Best of Knight Rider) includes the teasers but each disc has only 135 mins of video. Take a look at some releases of big, epic films. Movies like Titanic, Dances with Wolves, JFK. These movies have running times approximately the same as 4 episodes of Knight Rider back to back, and there are no problems with compression there. You'll find in many cases that they have more subtitle options and language/commentary tracks than Playback are allegedly having trouble with.
In addition, it seems that the teasers from 'The Scent of Roses' and 'Knight Song' are missing due to the lack of space in Side A of Disc 2.
I don't think Teasers missing on the US releases have anything to do with running time or storage space either. For example, there is only one English soundtrack on the R1 release. The A-Team releases have suffered more with the loss of teasers than Knight Rider. Again, it seems to be cynical cutting -- release it as complete, and re-release a "more" complete set later on.

For picture and sound quality, yes, I agree that the R2 releases were very good -- but no better than the R1 release. But the fact that the episodes had lost the teasers, and, in the case of Season 1, putting the Pilot Episode at the end of the season as a bonus feature, I think was very shoddy. The sound effect problems on Regions 1 and 2 were an insult not only to fans, but to consumers in general.
Congratulations for the superb site of 'Knight Rider Archive'. Keep up the very good work! Cheers!
Thanks, mate!

Titanic was split on 2 discs for the special edition because of commentaries and DTS tracks.

The original release was a 1 disc thing with nothing else on it apart from a teaser trailer.

Hello Paul!

I am very pleased that I have a chat with you.

Certainly, you know better than me what has happened with the DVD sets.

I just tried to give an explanation about it. Maybe Universal-Playback really faced some problems (such as compression... :? ) and forced to cut the teasers from the DVDs. It is very sad to hear that it might be ''...a cynical cutting... --... in order to release it as complete, and re-release a "more" complete set later on...'' :?

Anyway, most of the KR fans have complaints about the DVDs and it is really sad that Universal have not done its best for it.

Since 2000, I have collected all the VHS and DVD releases in the UK from Universal-Playback. But mainly, I am very sad with the Season 3 release.

I have also some Region 1 sets. Such as Season 2 Boxset, and certainly it is better than the Region 2 release (i.e. except from the problem of teasers - I think that in R1 release there is an on-screen synopsis for each episode, but in R2 release of Season 2 there is not! Also, the on-screen menu of Season 3 is better in Region 1 than in R2).

Personally, I believe that 'Knight Rider Online' and 'Knight Rider Archive' are the best sites.

Honestly, I really like your site very much. As far as I remember, I browsed your site for a first time in 2000. I was really impressed with the information that I found and also with the detailed synopsis of each Episode. In addition, it is amazing that you have put scripts and articles from magazines! I remember that you used to have download section with videos taken from TV.

I regularly visit your site for any updates or in case that I want to learn something more about a specific episode. Certainly, what I like most is the summary of episodes! :)

I look forward to your new updates.

Cheers mate!
