Filming Location - My recent visit to the Greystone Mansion

Post by knightknerd » Thu Aug 17, 2006 12:55 pm

This mansion was used in the Pilot episode scene where Wilton Knight and Michael Knight were talking after Michael's facial reconstructive surgery. The following link shows pictures i took recently while on vacation in Southern California of the Greystone Mansion which is open to the public. Enjoy... :D

Very nice pictures! Did you visit any other Knight Rider filming locations?

I thought FLAG was at Arden Villa? I'm kinda confused on this. They filmed the first one at another mansion? I didn't notice, as I thought it was Arden Villa the whole time.

The Greystone Mansion was used in the Pilot, and for establishing shots in the first season until the episode "White Bird". At that time, they switched the FLAG location to Arden Villa, where it was the remainder of the series. They actually only shot 4 episodes at Arden Villa - "White Bird", "Brother's Keeper", "A Knight in Shining Armor" and "Goliath Returns".

Ya, it was so cool to be standing in the same spot they were. I just watched the Pilot episode today in my DVD series set and was like "Wow". I just got home last night from my trip to CA. I tried taking enough pictures of the front steps, terrace and the driveway path down below so you could see what the locations look like today after twenty-five years.

I tried visiting the mansion on Arden Villa but it was a closed security gate property. I also tried locating the Phone booth location on Lankershim Blvd (just off the North 110 exit) from the Pilot episode but had no luck. A lot has changed on that street apparently since the 80s.

Check out the other locations I visited from other various shows and movies. I got the list of addresses from some website online which really helped me out tremendously.

Joe - Thanks for the info. I always wondered where they shot Devon's office scenes. And in other episodes where KITT was parked outside the villa, I assume that is reused shots? :)

Interesting bits of trivia here. :)

Devon's office was filmed on a soundstage. Whenever you see KITT parked outside Arden Villa, that was a shot filmed while they were filming one of the 4 episodes I mentioned above. A good way to save some $$!

I kinda thought so but wasn't sure. Thanks for the clarification. :)

It's interesting to learn how things were done back then.

Since you like trivia, FuzzieDice, here's a good one for ya....

In "Fright Knight" (the scene where Michael runs across the stage to save the actress from the falling light), look in the background...you can actually see a set piece that has been used for FLAG's interior, as well as various other Knight Rider scenes (like Hirana's house in Voo Doo Knight and the basement of Armand's in Knight of the Chameleon). Check it out:

I have an archive of these stills. As I watch the episode, whenever I see something "odd" or trivia worthy, I take a capture of it. That's why I have most of these shots in an instant :)

Might I suggest a trivia section on your web site? :)

You know, when I first saw that picture, and looked in the background, I thought 'Oh no, the Big Potted Plant thing again!' I think you might remember we had some fun with THAT prop at one time. :)

Lessee... the set piece you're referring to in this image... is it the back wall and stairs? They do look familiar. Possibly more likely the stairs?

As for the plant, it's too small to be the infamous BPP though. :)

Yeah, the stairs and walls beside it. Notice how they are done in the style of Devon's office? These stairs are also featured in "Halloween Knight" as FLAG HQ and in "Knight Flight to Freedom" as Colonel Peralta's place.

Oh, and I remember the BPP :)

Here ya go, from "Knight Flight" and "Voo Doo Knight":

Joe those pics are awesome, have you got any other behind the scene pics like that. I personally find it fascinating.

Actually, Nick, those are just screen captures from the episodes :) The one from "Knight Flight to Freedom" looks like it's behind the scenes since there is a cameraman, but that is actually from the episode.

But here ya go:

Great pictures! :) I didn't know there were stairs in Devon's office. Here I thought I knew the layout of the office.

I'm going to have to pay more attention to the shows now. :)

Actually, FuzzieDice, Devon's office didn't have stairs. Thosa stairs were used as a different room in the Foundation, not Devon's office. :)

Now I'm getting confused, because the entry way I think looked a lot like the one at Devon's office. Although it seemed like there was an entrance on the side too. Or maybe two different offices?

Awesome photos in this thread, thanks for sharing them :)
The only other Knight Rider filming location that I've found pics from net is the dam used in episodes Knightmares and Redemption of a Champion, namely Sepulveda Dam in Los Angeles.
