All the Seasons in a single DVD boxset (Region 2)

Post by sophos77 » Thu Jun 29, 2006 7:50 pm

The 'play.com' website reports that all Seasons are due to be released in a single DVD boxset.

It will be interesting to see whether 'Season 3' is going to be released with the same problem of sound effects or not!

2 things are interesting about that.

1. They have only listed up to season 3 in terms of the episodes. No s4.

2. It says the sound is in *stereo*.

Are we going to get an upgrade, I wonder, or is it just a simple mistake?

I'm hoping for the former.

Yes, I have also noticed that.

Certainly, I believe that it will be upgraded and Season 4 will be added. Unfortunately, the technical detail about the sound is probably a mistake because also for the 'Season 3' Boxset 'Play.com' says that it is 'Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo' but it is actually Mono. :?

Yes, I am hoping too!

And I will be very happy if Universal is going to fix the problem of sound effects from Season 3 in this DVD boxset collection.

I can't see much way of turning a single channel, mono audio track into anything that would sound correct in emulated stereo.

Yes. That's true! I agree with you.

But for me, the most important thing is the correction of the missing sound effects from 'Season 3', if it is possible. It may seem a 'wishful thinking' but I am still hoping! :)

Why not? It's easy. Are you aware of older movies on dvd that were released in mono but remixed into stereo or even surround?

I will admit that some remixes require replacement foley effects for 5.1 surround sound so that is a bit rubbish but upgrading to stereo from mono is only a step up.

I really hope that 'Universal' will do the best effort for this Boxset.

The sound can be emulated in Stereo and sound effects can be corrected. But, finally, I am not sure if 'Universal' will do something about any of these! :?

The spec for sound has been changed to mono. Oh well. In that case, I bet the missing sound effects will be there as well.

Unfortunately, I was afraid of that.

But, since they have added the missing sound effects for Region 1, they can possibly do the same thing for Region 2.

Let's hope that finally they will do something for this problem in the UK and rest of Europe as well.

I can't see the point now that most people will have got at least a season of it.
