KITT returns in new AT&T commercial

Post by BoMcD » Thu Apr 06, 2006 9:56 am

Hi Gang,

Thought you would like to see these behind the scenes shots that were given to us over at the Foundation of Ken Roberson's KITT as it will appear in a new AT&T commercial airing today during the Masters Tournament.

We are hoping Ken will bring this now "Screen used KITT" to our Conversion gathering in Michigan in June.... :D

Thanks to Ken!

Nice car, nice dash with minimal mistakes (orange front lights and mistakes on the lower console). Cool!

The schnoz (nose) looks good. You don't see too many that look that accurate. That is pretty cool. I agree on the orange fog lights though. I never liked that idea. However, for on-road use, you do have to have turn signals.

However, I think I saw turn signals in use on KITT in one of the KR episodes and those were under the pop-up headlights.

Is it me or does that replica look insanely shinny? It could just be the all white room reflecting though. Anyways I can't wait to see the commercial! :D

That is a nice car. I was thinking that you had to have those turn lights on the front. It looks alittle strange but have to have them. I was thinking, did KITT ever use his turn signal? hmm.

Hell yeah, that thing is shinny, and incredible looking! It's amazing to me that people have the time and money to create such a masterpiece...

We're dying to know what this commercial is about and where exactly it is airing?

As for the turn signals, I would at least make them clear, I know they wouldn't be 100% legal, but at least you would be 50% in compliance, and people would still know that you are turning. There are alot of custom cars that have clear white turn signals, even clears with a bulb that flashes yellow would be better... Because the amber looks bad in front. I would even clear out KITTs side markers if I ever made a replica, to bring him up to speed, so to speak... I wonder if they make clear sidemarkers for '82-'92 T/As?

I have seen KITT use his blinker once in the series in TRUST DOESN"T RUST right before they go to the burger restaurant, and it was right next to the headlight under the smoked out cover, where early T/As had them... I think this is where I would keep my turn signals as well on a conversion... I think the turn signal cover nose looks better than the later one used here...

I really like the concept of the commercial, showing the evolution of talking machine in pop culture (They have Joshua from WarGames!) My only nitpick is that they didn't attempt to sync KITT's voice modulator with the actual voice. Still, it's great to see KITT included with other classic characters.

Very nice!! Great commercial and yes, they did a good job with KITT. :)

I assume that was William Daniels that did the actual voice? Sounds exactly like him so that's why I thought it was him.

Thanks for posting this. :)

That was a pretty cool commercial. I'm not sure if that was William Daniels doing KITT's voice though. It sounded a bit deep to me, like the voice from the Benchwarmers trailer. It could just be the video. I really want to see this commericl on the TV now. :D

The first version of the commercial posted was created with a camcorder pointed at the tv screen; this version may be a little more clear:

(Quicktime, approx 3MB)

And here is a more dial-up friendly version:

(Quicktime, approx 368k)

After watching that new commercial, a thought comes to mind... William Daniels turned 79 recently and his voice might be just a little deeper than it used to be... Just a thought>>>

I think it still sounds a lot like him. That's a pretty neat commercial but not enough of KITT in it...hehe.

William Daniels doesn't sound too much different to me. And too, I think when the were doing Knight Rider, weren't they running his voice through some kind of audio filtering to make him sound almost robotic (though trying to keep him sounding a little on the human side as well)? The technology and filters obviously wouldn't be readily available today, or it'd be hard to reproduce just for a commercial.

So they may have used different audio effects. Or none at all?

Looking at the new video, I seemed to have heard the first computer (saying "In 1939 Researchers...") before. I could swear I had that voice on one of my machines a long time ago, in the maybe early to mid 90s?

Was that the SoundBlaster Dr. SBaitso voice? It sounds a LOT like it!

Sorry about the 3rd post but I found the voice! The voice sounds a lot like (if not identical to) the AnalogX "Say-It" program found here:

What state makes you put tags in the middle of the windshield? Too bad for that owner...

Oh yeah Dr. Sabaitso or however it was spelled. I remember playing with that. I used to chat with that thing all the time and make it say funny stuff. That's why I like SKAR because it reminded me of that.

WOW!

Was real nice to see KITT there. A bit short but fitted in nicely.

Unsure of WD's voice. It definitely wasn't the same as in the series. Still amazing!

Pics of the replica are nice. Even though one or two bits of the dash appear inaccurate, I'd be proud if I owned a replica as brilliant as that one.

Julie - I think it's more like the AnalogX "Say-It" program. I remember it sounded more like that.

I'm of course only going from memory (no pun intended ;) )

I think they probably both sound alike. I haven't played with the Say-it program.
