In my eyes, the BIGGEST flaw thus far are those amber fog lights. What's up with that?!?!?

Perhaps not, but I will try to cram my Michael Knight doll in it, even though his head may protrude way past the t-tops.

That's why a G.I. Joe version of Michael Knight may be useful. It's the correct scale.

I remembered that the RC2 ECTO-1 scale model came with a slimer figurine.... Maybe the 1:18 KITT will come with a Michael Knight figure..... hmmm.. I certainly hope so...

1/18th Ertl KITT = 1/18th Aoshima KITT???

Post by corlando52 » Sat Sep 18, 2004 1:44 pm

I wrote to Showcase Toys to see if they will be carrying the Aoshima 1/18th Scale KITT. Here is their reply:

The 1:18 scale Knight Rider K.I.T.T. model will be released by RC2 Ertl in late October or early November. It is available for pre-order at our website. The model being released by Aoshima will probably be the exact same model. Some of the models they sell are manufactured by other companies. They just use a different box.

Any comments?

Ummm... I already posted this in the Aoshima 1:18 retaliation thread (See below)

The 1:18 scale Knight Rider KITT model by Aoshima will more than likely be the RC2 model in different packaging. Aoshima releases a number of different models from other companies. As for the 1:43 scale Knight Rider KITT and KARR, I have one set left. They have become almost impossible to find in Japan.

Sorry

Post by corlando52 » Mon Sep 20, 2004 6:02 pm

Sorry, I didn't see that thread. It's nice to know at least they say the same thing to all their customers.
It is a shame, though, because with the technology AOSHIMA has, they could actually make a LIGHTED dashboard in a 1/18th Scale KITT. How cool would that be!?

Not a problem at all corlando52. I've actually been corrected of the exact same thing :P

Will KITT have removable or (at least) clear/tinted t-tops?

Pretty cool thought, I myself would like to see it done, then throw in a voice chip to enable KITT or KARR to talk. That would make for a killer 1:18 diecast.

Voice Chip

Post by corlando52 » Mon Sep 20, 2004 11:04 pm

Radio Shack sells a nice digital recorder, actually just a really small circuit and a little speaker, that holds about 17 seconds of recording. I was able to fit the whole speech, "I am the Knight Industries Two-Thousand..." plus some scanner noise in the beginning, and used it in a model KITT I made. I hooked it up to a life size voice box and used it as part of the display base.
(if you want to see it working, you can see the AVI (at about 500M) at:

http://home.att.net/~corlando52/vbxtalking1.avi)

Anyway, if I remember, I think it's under $10, but definately under $20. Easy to install if you really want a talking KITT.

Anyone know if this will be avalible in the uk??

It is Worldwide dispatch at showcase, but there is the nasty sting of import duty, which I guess would be exspensive for such an item!

But if it isen't i will just have to grin and bear the rip off duty!

Looks Like Ertl to me

Post by corlando52 » Fri Sep 24, 2004 5:23 pm

I hate to say it, but it definately looks like the same model as Ertl is offering for $30 less. I was hoping it would be different.
Too bad, but still something great to look forward to.
It's big enough that I might buy two and put a lighted dash and talking chip in. That might be fun!

MEXICAN KNIGHT- Great find pal!!!

pewter 02ws6- Thats because Aoshima will most probably be getting KITT from ERTL and repaint them and sell them as KARR. So the Aoshima KARR will basically be a repaint of the ERTL KITT. Who knows, maybe Aoshima will add some changes for the KARR. Maybe they'll remove the amber lens and replace them or somethin'. Aoshima will still be selling KITT, but they will also sell KARR.. Whereas ERTL will only be selling KITT... And the pic of KARR is the 1:43 KARR, thats why it has no amber lens.

Very very interesting...at least we all know now that the 1:18 scale KITT and KARR models are well on their way to distribution. In a nutshell, Aoshima and ERTL have become partners in this project, eh? Well and good, I just might have the power to purchase both KITT and KARR now.

By the way, look closely at the right passenger seat. It appears to have a gimmick....a SEAT EJECTION FUNCTION!! Cool!!! No wonder it was so close to the dashboard in the prototype pics, it was actually elevated in the "up" position! It's certainly worth the money now, even with those darn orange fog lamps, low profile tires and other inaccuracies.

Now hold on one sec. I just clicked on the link (http://www.rakuten.co.jp/be-j/463527/554425/608782/) that shows the image above, but the writing on the page says RC2(ERTL) and Aoshima. As far as the KARR photo, it looks like Aoshima's 1:43 scale model.

Can it be that RC2(ERTL) have now announed elsewhere (Japan) the upcoming KARR? Anyone here have any Japan connections?

I wonder how the model's rear end looks, is there a blackoutpanel for tail lights and does it have Knight licenseplate (or KARR plate).
I'd also be curious to see good pics of the dash, how detailed it is.

I hope they'll fix at least the amber lights in the frontnose and remove the white lettering in tires.
If those pics are the final product, when I get the model in my hands, I'll cut out the gfx spoiler between frontnose and frontwheel. Also will try to figure out a way to add some sort of turnsignal blackouts to the frontnose. I think otherwise the model is acceptable, not perfect but acceptable.

I'm pretty sure the dash will be detailed... I will be shocked if ERTL left out the rear black out panel and the Knight license plate... Cross our fingers and hope for the best...

U know, I really hope that the rear windows will not be blacked out.... From the pics, it looks like it is still blacked out..

Oh yeah, The ejector seat function looks similar to the ejector seat mechanism for my Beanstalk 1:18 scale James Bond Aston Martin Vanquish... As u can see in the pic below>
