Old Knight Rider coming to new HDTV network

Post by Michael Pajaro » Wed Nov 02, 2005 5:15 pm

Broadcasting & Cable has an article announcing a new cable channel from NBC/Universal. "Sleuth" and will feature crime-fighting/mystery programming from Universal's library, including shows such as Miami Vice, The A-Team and - yup, you guessed it -Knight Rider. The standard-definition channel will launch January first, then later in the year they will offer an HDTV simulcast. (Yes, Knight Rider will be in high-definition, but my guess is it will be simply "up-converted" from the regular definition, so it won't be the true dazzling HD.)

Knight Rider's Possible Return to TV!!!

Post by knightdogg » Thu Nov 03, 2005 6:11 pm

From http://www.yahoo.com:

NBC Launches Channel for Mystery Shows
Thursday November 3 11:47 AM ET

NBC Universal said Wednesday it will start a new cable channel, Sleuth, to appeal to fans of mystery and crime shows.

Sleuth begins Jan. 1 and will initially be seen in about 5 million homes that have Time Warner Cable.

It will join the growing media company's stable of networks, including USA, Bravo, CNBC, MSNBC and Sci Fi.

For at least the first couple years, Sleuth's programming will consist mainly of old reruns in the Universal library, such as "Miami Vice," "The A-Team" and "Knight Rider." The movies "Scarface," "The Jackal" and "Casino" will also be in the mix.

"There definitely seems to be an endless taste for viewing of this genre that gave us a lot of confidence to go in this direction," said Jeff Gaspin, president of NBC Universal Cable Entertainment.

Led by CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," the genre is clearly the most popular in prime-time television these days.

NBC's prominent "Law & Order" series, both the original and its spinoffs, do big business in syndication for TNT and USA. They won't be a part of Sleuth.

Gaspin said he didn't anticipate Sleuth will have any original programming for at least a couple years. The initial low distribution for the channel makes such an investment too costly.

well sorta...

I got the paper yesterday and on the media section there was a picture of Knight rider and Bruce Willis, the connection you ask, well NBC starting 010106 will open up a new cable channel called "Sleuth", a cable channel dedicated to murder, mystery, and mayheim. NBC universal libary will serve up 24/7 programming that include throwback shows as "Knight Rider", "The A-Team", "Miami Vice" and movies like "Scarface", 'The Jackel" and so on. I want to be able to print this off and upload it to some website so everyone can read it, but that's the gist of it all is Knight Rider is back and badder then ever in 2006!!, any sugestions on how to upload this newspaper article online?

Believe it or not, this literally is my area of expertise- I design and build cable stations for a living.

When a company wants to announce a new channel, it helps to stack the deck by announcing that they already have support for the new network. In this case, Time Warner. TW is simply the first company to come on board. Other deals will be made over the next few weeks and months and I'm sure more providers will sign up.

I'm talking with a friend at Universal and trying to wiggle my way into getting a tour of whatever broadcast facility they'll be using. I have a professional curiosity about the HD up-conversion, but mostly I want to see Knight Rider originating from a control room.

I'm not a customer of Time Warner cable anymore, so I won't get to see that channel either, but on the other hand, it's just as well, for the time being....
I think I'll go ahead and get the DVD sets for the 3rd and 4th seasons of "Knight Rider" anyway.
