NEW!Aoshima 1/18 Die-Cast Knight Rider K.I.T.T. w/Sound Unit

Post by imranbecks » Tue Sep 27, 2005 9:24 am

I was browsing through HLJ to look for any new or upcoming Knight Rider stuff and I found something interesting.....

It looks like Aoshima will be releasing KITT in 1/18 scale again but this time with a sound unit..

Model will undoubtly be similar to the already released and out of production Aoshima 1/18 KITT except this new one will come with a sound chip.. Really curious.... What sound will it give out? The scanner sound maybe? Or KITT talking? Hmmm..... Looking forward to this and hope to find out more abt it.... Check it out>>> http://www.hlj.com/product/AOS07390

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but...

1 The ERTL JoyRide Kitt is much cheaper, I got it for 68 EUROs on ebay and that includes the post fee from Germany to Hungary. Its beautiful and has correct wheels without the brand letters in white.

2, If you have a steady hand for DIY, you can install a small Flash MP3 player and a small speaker into Kitt's trunk. It's much better, I mean, you can upload every sound of Kitt, not just the built-in ones (you can find these sounds on KRMultiMedia).

So consider buying the Aoshima Kitt, you can make an ERTL Kitt talking for much cheaper with a bit of work.

Should have been done in the first place.

If Hasbro can cram a bunch of "beebs" and "whirs" into a 3 3/4" R2-D2 and sell it for 6 bucks, then I'm sure this KITT model could had one from the start. I hate when companies do stuff like this, constantly making changes that should have been there since day one forcing us to spend even more money.

As big of a fan as I am, I'll pass on this one.

The problem is that the upgrade for this model isn't enough to really make me want to buy another one. And I doubt the chip will have William Daniels' voice unless they take clips directly from the show. It would have been more appealing if the sound chip had phrases specifically recorded for the model like with the 1983 Kenner Voice Car.

...probably me. I contacted Aoshima a while back when I found out about this car. I had already placed my pre-order direct with Aoshima, but cancelled it since then. They basically said its Japanese speaking as its meant for the Japanese market. They also stated that the impression they get is that there is little demand in the west hence the delay by ERTL for KARR and a potential voice chipped KITT.

EDIT: e-mail I recieved from them on the 7th of September:

Dear: Mr. Sarfraz Rajwadkar
Hi!!! How are you doing??

Thank you very much for your e-mail about your order#119199.
We are very sorry but the item (KIIGHT RIDER with VOICE) is not English.
(it is Japanese....)

Thank you very much for your time and attention!!

Hope you have a great day!

Best Regards,
Yuko Takai.

Highly improbable...doing so will jack up the price of the existing model.
